Korea has the highest traffic accident occurrence rate in the world. It means that we are forced to face a tremendous amount of economic loses and great cost of life. Even though this phenomenon consistently has arose as a public issue every year and many researchers have emphasized the importance of safety education as the fundamental solution, we are still trying to make a long-lasting and effective traffic safety education programs for children and adolescents. The purpose of this study was to test the effectiveness of web-based learning for traffic safety in Korea middle school. For this purpose, the instructive model was constructed based on the ASSURE model and a special web-site of education was developed on behalf of practical use of multi-media learning materials for the traffic safety. The research subject was represented by 259 students from second grade in 2 middle schools located in Seoul Korea. The traffic safety education program using web-site was preceded to the 136 students as a case group for 45 minutes total 3 times. Other 126 students are control group those who did not get with this program. The survey was conducted before and after the education. The results of this study were as follow: 1. The knowledge analysis from the comparison between before and after of the lesson showed case group and control group scored average at 11.25 points and 10.97 points. However, after they attended programs, case group scored 13.57 points and control group scored 10.85 points. The difference from the result of the case group was statistically significant(p<0.001). 2. The attitude analysis from the comparison between before and after of the lesson showed case group and control group scored averages at 29.59 points and 28.21 points. However, after they attended program, case group scored 37.23 points and control group scored 32.71 points. The difference from the result of the case group was statistically significant(p<0.05). 3. Regarding the domain analysis by means of web-based traffic safety education, only the case group had a statistically significant score in the case of knowledge 'safe utilization of bicycle' and 'The Characteristic of Automobile and Safer Mode of Walking for Pedestrian'(p<0.01, p< 0.001), and in the case of attitude 'safe walking and crossing' 'The Characteristic of Automobile and Safer Mode of Walking for Pedestrian'(p<0.01, p<0.001). 4. Web based instruction for traffic safety was effective in terms of improving students' knowledge and attitude for traffic safety.
The role of environment-friendly and energy-efficient rail transportation is on the rise as a "sustainable transportation means" to cope with environmental changes that are major concerns around the world. Along with the environmental problems, the CO2 inhibition issue became critical for mankind to prepare global warming and high oil prices. It has come to a point where an alternate means are needed to revitalize plans including renewable energy, bicycle utilization, and prepare new solutions for decreasing number of cars within the city The personal rapid Transit(PRT) is the revolutionary future transportation means that can replace cars to deal with ever-increasing traffic congestions, vehicles, and environmental/energy problems. Expected as an efficient means, technology development has already taken place in developed countries such as U.S., England, and Germany. To meet the future demands, PRT installation around the nation's new and existing towns is being examined to produce important factors. The factors are produced for examining the availability of system requirements during design and construction practice.
Rapid urbanization causes a variety of transportation problems, including traffic delay. Then transportation engineers would get involved in trying to solve traffic delay through road constructed and uncongested policy. But lately, traffic policy changed from vehicle-dominated to humandominated and green transportation. Road diet is one of green transportation. Road diets reduce the number of lanes, lane width because supplement space for green transportation including a bicycle road, side-walk, etc. A study on road diets not enough then this study performed a basic study for road diets. This study on lane width reduce for road diets through analyzes sway of moving vehicle. This study results shows lane width of a compacts-size car needs 2.34~2.70m and lane width of a full-size car needs 2.62~2.89m. According to this study lane width can reduce therefore lane width design criterion have to be relieved. This study will be used in a road width reduce including a road diets, road in process of construction and so on.

Cooperative-Intelligent Transport Systems (c-ITS) has emphasized a real-time traffic safety service in urgent situations among highway infrastructure and four-wheeled vehicles, while two-wheeled vehicles, e.g. bicycles and motorcycle, sharing highway space and endangering highway safety, have yet been out of its interest. This paper delivers the results of a study conducted to analyze the patterns of two-wheeled-vehicle traffic accidents experienced in the past, the last three years (2011~2013), and to propose the types of service enhancing the safety of the riders of those. It was found from the analysis of historical accident data that the side collision on a link section should be taken care of for further safety treatment, while the old female drivers need additional care to decrease their fatality rate. By combining the services proposed for bicycles and motorcycles, this paper proposes (1) eight different bicycle-to-everything (B2X) services which can be eventually provided in c-ITS and (2) three of those that would be available in the near future with the current communication technologies.

The increase in the number of private automobiles has incurred various traffic problems. Globally, studies on MaaS(Mobility as a Service) has already been initiated to mobilize the use of public transportation in reducing private passenger cars in roads. This study aims to analyze the passenger's optimal route considering the transfer between different transportation modes through simulation, and analyze the effect of available route through the connected transportation modes. Sejong Special Self-Governing City was chosen as the study area due to its extensive transportation network. As a result of the analysis, the predominant obtainable route is derived either from using public transportation (i.e. bus and subway) only or by bicycle. However, it is also possible to use the car sharing and public bicycle to reach their final destination efficiently when paths that can be traversed were more scrutinized. When various transportation information and location-based services are introduced in smart phone applications, they can provide very useful information to passengers, and also promote social problems such as traffic congestion and environmental issues in the future.
The purpose of this study is to analyze the main factors influencing the severity of traffic accidents and to visualize spatiotemporal characteristics of traffic accidents in Seoul. To do this, we collected the traffic accident data that occurred in Seoul for four years from 2012 to 2015, and classified as slight, serious, and death traffic accidents according to the severity of traffic accidents. The analysis of spatiotemporal characteristics of traffic accidents was performed by kernel density analysis, hotspot analysis, space time cube analysis, and Emerging HotSpot Analysis. The factors affecting the severity of traffic accidents were analyzed using decision tree model. The results show that traffic accidents in Seoul are more frequent in suburbs than in central areas. Especially, traffic accidents concentrated in some commercial and entertainment areas in Seocho and Gangnam, and the traffic accidents were more and more intense over time. In the case of death traffic accidents, there were statistically significant hotspot areas in Yeongdeungpo-gu, Guro-gu, Jongno-gu, Jung-gu and Seongbuk. However, hotspots of death traffic accidents by time zone resulted in different patterns. In terms of traffic accident severity, the type of accident is the most important factor. The type of the road, the type of the vehicle, the time of the traffic accident, and the type of the violation of the regulations were ranked in order of importance. Regarding decision rules that cause serious traffic accidents, in case of van or truck, there is a high probability that a serious traffic accident will occur at a place where the width of the road is wide and the vehicle speed is high. In case of bicycle, car, motorcycle or the others there is a high probability that a serious traffic accident will occur under the same circumstances in the dawn time.

According to the change of the traffic conditions, the requirement of controlling the separated left(or right) turn, the median bus lane and bicycle signal is increasing. However, the traffic signal controller standard based on the four-set lights restricts to control the three-set lights which control the separated direction and kind of traffics. This study suggests the method to control the three-set lights signal by improving the hardware and software for the traffic signal controller which is operated currently in the traffic scene. The 6 output ports of Load Signal Unit(LSU) which is consisted of Pedestrian Red, Pedestrian Green, Red, Yellow, Arrow and Green signal reconstitute 2 rows of the Red, Yellow, Green for three-set lights while the Signal Map data's code values which control the signal step of an individual Ring and LSU are established to adjust the LSU's output ports(R1 Y1 G1 R2 Y2 G2) of the three-set lights. The effect of using the separated through/left turn and the median lane bus signal of three-set lights is analyzed from a Mangwoo intersection in Seoul. The results of analysis show that the delay time of the east-west direction where the median bus lane is operated is especially improved with over 70 sec/veh.
The railway crossing is very dangerous because the track intersects with the road there. Thus, The laws were designed for safety of the railway crossing and they are classified as to the acts for the road and the railroad. For safety of the railway crossing, there are 'Road/Railroad Crossing Improvement Promotion Act', 'Enforcement Decree of Road/Railroad Crossing Improvement Promotion Act', 'Rules on Construction of Railroad', 'Rules on Safety Standards of Railroad Installations', and 'Enforcement Ordinance of Cable way/Railway Track Act' in the acts for the railroad and there are 'Road Traffic Act', 'Enforcement Ordinance of The Road Traffic Act', 'Ruled on Structure and Facility Standards of The Road', 'Rules on Structure And Facility Standards Of The Rural Road' and 'Rules on Structure and Facility Standards of The Installations for Bicycle' in the acts for the road. Both the acts for the road and the railroad have standards for the structure of the railway crossing. However, they have different standards. Besides, they don't have standards for new facilities which were recently installed for safety of the railway crossing. Therefore, we suggest new standards for safety of the railway crossing.
Objectives : This study was performed to investigate the injury rates and risk factors for preschool children in Daegu city and Kyungpook province. Method : A questionnaire survey about medically attended injuries during the preschool period was performed in nine primary schools located in Daegu city, Pohang city and Goryung County. The overall injury rate was estimated using person-year. The causes and patterns of the injuries, and their risk factors were examined. Result : A total of 469 medically attended injuries were reported in 330 of the 959 study subjects during the preschool period. The overall annual injury rate was 7.5 per 100 children. The injury rate increased sharply during the period from infant (2.4) to 1 year of age (7.5), and the peak injury rate (9.2) was reported for 5 year olds. The most common causes of injuries were falling (36.0%), followed by being struck by an object (23.7%), and traffic accidents (14.1%). Among the traffic accidents, 72.8% occurred while playing on the road, riding a bicycle or roller-skating. A proportional hazard model showed that males (hazard ratio=1.49, p<0.001 compared with female) and the mother's higher education level (hazard ratio of college or higher= 1.51, p=0.013; high school=1.32, p=0.085 compared with those of middle school or lower) were significant risk factors of childhood injury. Conclusion : The results of this study suggested that efforts for children's safety should be made, especially from the toddler stage, and in male children. To develop a more specific childhood injury prevention program, a surveillance system for injuries should be established. Further study of the relationship between mother's occupation and injury rates is also needed.
