  • Since the eco-era is getting closer, the importance of noise reducing in the passenger cars of high-speed train is very important. The active noise control is best choice to reduce low frequency noise because the passive one is too heavy for high speed trains where weight is so critical. Also ANC is able to reduce the ambient noise when the environmental-factor changes. To reduce a three-dimensional closed-space sound field like a car of a high-speed rail is hard to do using single channel ANC control system. We used multi-channel FXLMS algorithm which calculation speed is fast and the secondary path estimation is possible in order to take into account the physical delay in electro acoustic hardware control loudspeaker and power amplifier. Firstly, we have measured interior noise of KTX and estimated noise path in KTX test-bed. However there was some problem related to algorithm divergence and increasing the filter order. We have made a simulation of interior environment of KTX car by using three frequency bands of 120Hz, 280Hz, 360Hz as the most important for KTX ANC system. During this research the interior noise reduction of KTX car was made by using the multi-channel FXLMS algorithm. Reduction performance was evaluated and compared each other for open space section and tunnel section. in-situ experiment for the KTX noise reduction by proposed ANC was performed based on data obtained in simulation and they were compared for open space section and tunnel section as well.

  • Objective: The aim of this systematic review was to evaluate the complications and side effects associated with the clinical use of orthodontic miniscrews by systematically reviewing the best available evidence. Methods: A survey of articles published up to March 2020 investigating the complications associated with miniscrew insertion, in both the maxilla and mandible, was performed using 7 electronic databases. Clinical studies, case reports, and case series reporting complications associated with the use of orthodontic miniscrew implants were included. Two authors independently performed study selection, data extraction, and risk-of-bias assessment. Results: The database survey yielded 24 articles. The risk-of-bias assessment revealed low methodological quality for the included studies. The most frequent adverse event reported was root injury with an associated periradicular lesion, vitality loss, pink discoloration of the tooth, and transitory loss of pulp sensitivity. Chronic inflammation of the soft tissue surrounding the miniscrew with mucosal overgrowth was also reported. The other adverse events reported were lesion of the buccal mucosa at the insertion site, soft-tissue necrosis, and perforation of the floor of the nasal cavity and maxillary sinus. Adverse events were also reported after miniscrew removal and included secondary bleeding, miniscrew fracture, scars, and exostosis. Conclusions: These findings highlight the need for clinicians to preliminarily assess generic and specific insertion site complications and side effects.

  • The paper presents controller optimization algorithm for a 12-pulse voltage source converter (VSC) based high voltage direct current (HVDC) system. To get an optimum algorithm, three methods namely conventional-Zeigler-Nichols, linear-golden section search (GSS) and stochastic-particle swarm optimization (PSO) are applied to control of 12 pulse VSC based HVDC system and simulation results are presented to show the best among the three. The performance results are obtained under various dynamic conditions such as load perturbation, non-linear load condition, and voltage sag, tapped load fault at points-of-common coupling (PCC) and single-line-to ground (SLG) fault at input AC mains. The conventional GSS and PSO algorithm are modified to enhance their performances under dynamic conditions. The results of this study show that modified particle swarm optimization provides the best results in terms of quick response to the dynamic conditions as compared to other optimization methods.

  • It is a difficult task for decision makers(DMs) to choose an appropriate release plan which balances the conflicts between water storage and hydro-electric energy generation in a multi-reservoir operation problem. In this study, we proposed a DEA-based ranking procedure by which the DM can rank the potential alternatives and select the best solution among the Pareto-optimal solutions. The proposed procedure can resolve the problem of mix inefficiency that may cause errors in measuring the efficiency of alternatives. We applied the proposed procedure to the multi-reservoir operation problem for the Geum-River basin and could choose the best efficient solution from the Pareto-set which were generated by the Coordinated Multi-Reservoir Operating Model.

  • This study has the aim to develop a numerical design regarding the position and the inner performances of a heat exchanger in a light helicopter. the problem was to find first of all the best position of the heat exchanger inside the engine vane in order to maximize the air flow rate capable to pass through the heat exchanger section. It is to be said that the only air contribution in the vane comes from the opening present in the roof under the main rotor. The design has been performed by means of the commercial code Fluent and using the well known grid generator ICEM CFD. Different positions are first investigated so to establish the best one. Subsequently, different areas of the opening on the roof have been considered in order to maximize even more the flow rate in the heat exchanger that was not sufficient based on the first guess of velocity, as aforementioned. At the end interesting design results are presented and discussed by contours of fields and values.

  • Railway construction needs vast soil investigation for its infrastructure foundation designs along the planned railway path to identify the design parameters for stability and serviceability checks. The soil investigation data are usually classified and grouped to decide design input parameters per each construction section and budget estimates. Deterministic design method which most civil engineer and practitioner are familiar with has a clear limitation in construction/maintenance budget control, and occasionally produced overdesigned or unsafe design problems. Instead of using a batch type analysis with predetermined input parameters, data population collected from site soil investigation and design load condition can be statistically estimated for the mean and variance to present the feature of data distribution and optimized with a best fitting probability function. Probabilistic approach using entire feature of design input data enables to predict the worst, best and most probable cases based on identified ranges of soil and load data, which will help railway designer select construction method to save the time and cost. This paper introduces two Monte Carlo simulations actually applied on estimation of retaining wall external stability and long term settlement of organic soil in soil investigation area for a recent high speed railway project.

  • To be able to understand the behavior of reinforced concrete (RC) members, cross sectional behavior should be known well. Cross sectional behavior can be best evaluated by moment-curvature relationship. On a reinforced concrete cross section moment-curvature relationship can be best determined by both experimentally or numerically with some complicated iteration methods. Making these experiments or iterations manually is very difficult and not practical. The aim of this study is to research the efficiency of Neural Networks (NN) as a more secure and robust method to obtain the moment-curvature relationship of circular RC columns. It is demonstrated that the NN based model is highly successful to determine the moment-curvature relationship of circular reinforced concrete columns.

  • This paper presents a multi-step structural design optimization method fur machine tool structures using a genetic algorithm with dynamic penalty. The first step is a sectional topology optimization, which is to determine the best sectional construction that minimize the structural weight and the compliance responses subjected to some constraints. The second step is a static design optimization, in which the weight and the static compliance response are minimized under some dimensional and safety constraints. The third step is a dynamic design optimization, where the weight static compliance, and dynamic compliance of the structure are minimized under the same constraints. The proposed design method was examined on the 10-bar truss problem of topology and sizing optimization. And the results showed that our solution is better than or just about the same as the best one of the previous researches. Furthermore, we applied this method to the topology and sizing optimization of a crossbeam slider for a high-speed machining center. The topology optimization result gives the best desirable cross-section shape whose weight was reduced by 38.8% than the original configuration. The subsequent static and dynamic design optimization reduced the weight, static and dynamic compliances by 5.7 %, 2.1% and 19.1% respectively from the topology-optimized model. The examples demonstrated the feasibility of the suggested design optimization method.

  • Recently, crowdfunding has been receiving increased attention due to the variety of novel ways it provides for connecting funders and fundraisers. Concurrently, however, it has been criticized on the grounds of information asymmetry. We are interested in whether information collected from an asymmetric information source significantly influences crowdfunding success. Through this study, we would like to establish a social field of convergence pursued by Serve Science and to conduct practical research and practice together. First, we investigated the importance of interaction between funders and fundraisers within the crowdfunding platform. In the "comments" section, communication between funders and fundraisers reduces the degree of asymmetric information. In the aspect of presumable funders, they should make the best of the "comments" section to collect more solid information without losing return on their investment. Second, we analyze sentiment-based optimistic and pessimistic information from the "story" (asymmetric source) and "comments" sections. In conclusion, it shows that the optimistic and pessimistic information of the "comments" section has a great impact on crowdfunding success and that the influence of the "story" section is limited to pessimistic information under certain conditions. The crowdfunding platform is an innovative and productive way for startups and entrepreneurs to start a business, and since information an important role in the success of crowdfunding, It can be seen that it is essential to focus on establishing the best communication methods.
