A Study on the Perception and the Anchoring Effect for the Food Period (식품기한에 대한 인식 및 앵커링 효과에 대한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to help operate and manage the new food period, use-by-date by investigating consumer perception of various food periods, and change of purchasing and consumption period by food period label. Compared to the purchasing period of sell-by-date, the ratio of the purchasing period also increased as the proposed period of the use-by-date and the best before date increased. The use-by-date should be set at least 15 days to reduce food waste as the consumption period is the same as the sell-by-date. This can be said to have an anchoring effect that changes the purchasing and consumption period of consumers depending on how much the food period is indicated even for the same product. In order to reduce consumer confusion and food waste due to sell-by-date, it is considered to label the sell-by-date and use-by-date or use-by-date and best before date in parallel.

What makes Consumers to Prolong their Consumption on Perishable Food beyond Its Expiration Date?

  • Consumers empty perfectly safe to intake perishable foods everyday if they are older than what prints on expiration date. The variation in expiration dating is freshness labeling represented in various terms such as sell by, package, best before, and so on. Regardless of the terms used and meanings are attached, consumers tend to conceive of freshness labeling on food as end of its shelf-life. Consequently, the food waste becomes a big issue for businesses in food sector. In an effort to demonstrate flexibility on this, KFDA(Korea Food & Drug Administration) introduced "best before" date in domestic market place to reduce food waste, based on the food safety test conducted by KCA(Korea Consumer Agency 2009). The results indicated freshness labeling on food should not be considered as the end of its life. Current study examined the underlying mechanisms(i.e. risk perception, self-construals, and indecisiveness) that influence consumers' intention on prolonged consumption of food beyond its stamped date when the KCA test results are shown to them. In addition, the moderating effect of regulatory focus is tested in the causal relationships between underlying mechanisms and different groups of prolonged consumption intention. Study participants are divided into three groups of prolonged consumption intention: no-change, moderate-change, and wide-change. The group with moderate-change in intention being as our point of reference, logistic regression analyses are conducted on 276 sample population. The results indicated that consumers with high source credibility risk are likely to show wide-change in intention on prolonged consumption while physical risk did not show significance. The consumers with independent self-construal are likely to show no-change in intention on prolonged consumption while interdependent self-construal did not show significance. Indecisiveness showed association a group with wide-change in intention on prolonged consumption. The moderating effect of regulatory focus showed valid results in most situations; the promotion-focused consumers showed wide-change in intention, while prevention-focused consumers showed no-change in intention. Furthermore, the moderating effect of promotion-focus showed a dominant position over the causal effect of indecisiveness in which decisive consumers(i.e. no-change in intention); if they are promotion-focused they tend show for the wide-change in intention instead. It is important to note that for those promotion-focused consumers(or situations), promotion-related arguments are more effective, while for those prevention-focused consumers(or situations) prevention- related arguments are more effective means of persuasion.

  • Lift, drag, pitching moment, what we call longitudinal aerodynamic coefficient, effects airplanes directly, so the method to find the accurate result quickly is an important factor from the beginning of the aircraft design. There are different ways to find aerodynamic coefficient such as empirical methods, numerical analysis methods, wind tunnel tests, and finally through an actual flight tests, but choosing the best methods depends on the due date or the cost. The accuracy varies on each design level, but all this methods have relationship to complement and balance each other, so by combining proper methods, the best result can be obtained. At this paper, empirical methods and numerical analysis method were experimented, compared, and reviewed to find the availability of each method and by combining two methods accurate result was obtained. So, we applied this methods to predict the aerodynamic coefficient on cruise configuration aircraft, and was able to obtain more accurate result on the low speed longitudinal aerodynamic coefficient. Also by watching there result, we are able to predict the errors before the actual wind tunnel test.

  • Developments in science and technology based on computer technology influenced military fields and created up-to-date weapons and equipment, and as a result, which is changing the war accomplishing methods of the future warfare. Due to these changes in the war accomplishing methods, the army command centers are requested to make changes in their decision-making process. In other words, they need to apply more scientific methods rather than just build a scheme by the mere analysis of commanders and the staffs as in the past. Consequently, we propose a model, Vision 21 we developed as a war game model for division-size unit analysis use, in the COA development process, which is the most important part in establishing the OPLAN for mission accomplishment. Vision 21, with a comparative analysis of the other COA built in the COA development process, can be applied to making the best COA. Model employment concept can let us choose the best COA, operating war games on condition that the COA of the opposite forces is fixed and ours sequentially opposed against, and with a comparative analysis also. Moreover, if the time available is limited, before establishing several courses, we can apply the COA to the process for making the best decision, analysing in stages or by main phases and not establishing several courses for a special purpose.

Changes of Berry Characteristics and Ginsenoside Content Depending on Collection Time of Korean Ginseng Berry (고려인삼 열매채취시기에 따른 열매형질 및 진세노사이드 함량 변화)

  • Background: This study was carried out to determine the best time for collecting ginseng berries without reducing the ginsenoside-Re content of ginseng roots, which are used as food, medicine, or cosmetic materials. Methods and Results: The test variety of ginseng used in this study was is Chunpung, which was collected from a 4-year-old ginseng field. Ginseng berries were collected at 7, 14, 21, 28, 35, 42, 49, and 56 days after flowering. The number of berry bunches per $1.62m^2$ ranged from 43.4 to 61.4, while the weight of berries per $1.62m^2$ was the greatest when they were collected 49 days after flowering. The root fresh weight per $1.62m^2$ was increased by 0.21 - 1.00 kg compared with that before the test, but root weight gain was decreased as the berry collection time was delayed. Total ginsenoside content of 4-year-old ginseng was the highest when berries were collected 7 days after flowering, while the ginsenoside-Re contents was the highest when collection was done 14 days after flowering. Conclusions: The most suitable period for ginseng berry collection was proposed to be from 14 to 21 days after flowering, as this is when the content of ginsenoside-Re, which is useful as a medicinal or cosmetic material, is still high and the ginseng root has not yet decreased in weight.

Modeling and Verification of Workflows with Time Constraints (시간 제약을 포함한 워크플로우 모델링 및 검증)

  • Recently, automated business processing systems, so called workflow systems, have been studied. have been studied. even though each task has noticible duration inherently, most of previous models regard it as a simple finite automation where state transitions occur instantly. In this paper, we propose a modeling method for workflow each of whose component task has minimum processing time and due-date. Firstly we provide a priority function to choose the proper alternatives when tasks fail before their due-date. The priority function considers the time-relevant factor and the semantic compatibility level to decide the best alternative. secondly, we identify six different types of execution requirements for tasks with noticible durations. They are serial, parallel, simultaneous start simultaneous termination, interleaved and nested dependency. Note that previous models deal with only serial execution and parallel execution. Lastly, we also propose graph-based methods to detect logical conflicts in time constraint-based workflow specifications.

Studies on the Mulberry Graftages. III. Optimum Season for Mulberry Graftage harvesting in Autumn (뽕나무 접목묘에 관한 연구 III. 추기 굴취적기에 관하여)

  • Experiments were conducted to investigate the optimum season for mulberry graftages harvesting before the period of natural leaf fall in autumn. Harvesting season was examined at 10 days intervals from September 30 to November 20, 1985 and 1986, at nine sites in eight provinces. The results were : 1. Diameter of graftages increased until October 30. 2. Early harvest of graftages decreased survived rate, number of shoots, and total shoot length the next spring. The October 30 harvest yielded the best growth the following spring. 3. Harvests after October 20 allowed for good survial of mulberry shoots and sprouting the following spring. 4. Total N and P in plants increased with late harvests, K decreased, and Ca content was not affected by harvest date. 5. Total N, P, and Ca were higher in stem cortex than root bark, while K appeared to be equally distributed between root and shoot bark.

  • It is very important to determine the age of the Cultural Properties in archeology. In about 1950, W.F. Libby and a team of scientists at the University of Chicago developed the Radiocarbon Dating technique. Radiocarbon($^14$C) Dating is probably one of the most widely used and best known absolute dating methods. Radiocarbon ages are conventionally specified to the year 1950. This year is 0 BP year. BP is the initial of Before Present. The $^14$C within an organism is continually decaying into stable carbon isotopes. When $^14$C decays, it emits a $\beta$ - particle with an energy content of 156 KeV and becomes 14N. Only the $\beta$ - particle is detected by Liquid Scintillation Counting. $^14$C has a half life of 5730 years. It has been used to date samples as old as 50,000 years. Radiocarbon determinations can be obtained on organic material : wood, charcoal, shell, etc. The results of radiocarbon dating using Benzene Synthesizer and Liquid Scintillation Counter are KCP539 $4030\pm60$BP year, KCP540 $3980\pm60$BP year, KCP575 $4870\pm50$, KCP576 $100\pm50$BP year, KCP577 $130\pm50$BP yea and KCP578 $210\pm70$BP year.

US Navy's Current Status and Prospects in Trump's Era (트럼프 시대 미국 해군력 현황과 전망)

  • The Mahan's seapower theory has been the basis of US Navy to date as it can enjoy the supremacy status in all of the seas of the world. His theory is very straightforward. A nation can be a great country in the world just through the use of maritime commerce that could be protected by a strong and powerful navy. Mahan's theory on seapower was substantiated in the Spanish-American War with respect to how important the naval power is. The best thing to make US a great nation was to make sure that flow of international trade is smooth, and the unhindered trade could be made possible only by the destruction of enemy's fleet that may obstruct the SLOCs. That's why Mahan insisted that a strong navy was needed and a decisive battle by the navy's fleet at sea should be encouraged as a way of ensuring the safety of the SLOCs. The newly-arrived Trump administration seems to be in line with the Mahan's theory seapower in its policy on naval forces structure. It is expected that US will continue to support the Pivot to Asia policy that has been adopted by the previous administration through an increase in its naval fleet forces. The number of US navy ships will be 355 in 2030, rendering it much more powerful navy than before. The catch phrase "3rd Fleet Forward" proposed by the president Trump indicates that two carrier strike groups will be present in the Asia Pacific region, being able to make the confrontation between US and China more tense than before. The presence of the US naval forces in the area may function as some sort of pressure against China that Trump insisted had been responsible for the closure of 60,000 factories and the loss of 3,000,000 jobs in the United States.

Rapid Determination of Electroplating Solutions (1) -Copper from Copper Plating Solutions (각종 도금액의 신속분석법 (제 1 보))

  • Up to this date, numerous methods of analysis of electropling solutions are published. Some, however, need lots of works before reaching final results, or require high technique and special instruments, and also some are unaccurate due to unclearnes of end point. Like our undevelop countries, technicians of electroplating shops are most high school graduates or under, and have not much knowledge on chemistry. Furthermore, those technicians have to control their plating solutions by themselves without having enough analytical laboratory equipment . Therefore, in this paper the simplest, besides accurate method is investigated after comparing numerous methods published. Among the methods of copper determinations from acid and alkaline copper plating baths, EDTA titration method are chosen, due to these methods are the simpest and fastest for the evaluation of metal content, without requirng any special instrument. For acid copper solutions, chelate titrations were accurate enough. Since the end point of titration of chelate method is variable according to the kind of indicators and other metal's coexisitence as well as solution component, many difficulties were encountered from cyanide copper, on the contrary of acid copper bath. PAN , PV, and MX indicators were tried , but it is found that MX is the best. In chyanide solution ,due to cyanide is the masking reagent , elimination of this component is essential , and finally found that elimination CN-by precipitation with AgNO$_3$ solution was the simplest and the most accurate way among others. This method was very accurate for the new plating solutions even coexistence with organic brightners. However used solutions for long months running have to be predetermined the accurate copper value by thiosulfate method form time to time, before chelate titration by means of AgNO$_3$ precipitation. Always some constant deviations will be seen according to the solutions nature. Therefore those deviation values have to be compensated each time.
