  • Wind tunnel test results and their interpretations, which were performed to study the aerodynamic stability of tower of self-anchored suspension bridge, are presented in this paper. Tower and full models were tested under smooth and turbulent flow conditions. In the case of the tower with inclined two columns, the vibration due to wakes were occurred at wide velocity zone because the wakes with various frequencies were generated by inclined upstream column. It has to be emphasized that the vibration characteristics of the tower in the self-anchored suspension bridge may be very sensitive to the longitudinal boundary conditions of the girder at the supports. Because of the two natural frequency of the tower, out-of-plane bending and torsional, were not well separated, coupled motions were observed in a wide range of wind velocity. The effectiveness of corner cut, countermeasure to reduce the tower vibrations, was also studied. It has been found that 1:10, comer cut size to column width, may be the most effective ratio for reducing the vibrations.

  • High speed engines with high power are increasingly on demands and almost engines employ crankshafts Such problems as bending and torsional vibrations become the point at issue in crankshaft analysis and design. In this study to overcome the diffiiculty with the large amount of computation in finite element vibration analysis of a crankshaft, a reduction method based on influence coefficient and lumped parameter is presented. which reduces the computation amount effectively and can be used in vibrational analysis and design of any types of crankshafts Crank journal and pinparts are meodelled as elements with 6degrees of freedom per node. Crank web part is modelled using equivalent mass and stiffness matices . based up on lumped parameter and influence coefficient respectively to reduce total degrees of freedom considerablely. To confirm the scheme of the study the results are compared with the known data and they are coincident. Also a simple crankshaft is designed and manufactured for experiments. The calculated results using reduction method and the experimental results agree well The scheme of this study can be utilized in evaluation results agree well. • Modulus of elasticity, modulus of rigidity, damping ratio, and natural frequency of three varieties of boxthorn(Lycium chinense Mill) (Cheongyang #2, Cheongyang gugija, and Cheongyang native) branches were analyzed. Modulus of elasticity and modulus of rigidity of the boxthorn branch was determined using standard formula after simple beam bending and torsion test, respectively, using an universal testing machine. Damping ratio and natural frequency of branches were determined using a system consisted of an accelerometer, a PC equipped with A/D converter, and a software for data analysis. Relationship between the elastic modulus and branch diameter in overall varieties and branch types showed a good correlation (r$\cong$-0.81). There was, however, no correlation between torsional rigidity and branch diameter. The internal damping results were highly variable and the overall range of the damping ratio of the boxthorn branch was 0.014 -0.087, which indicated that the branch was a lightly damped structure. The natural frequency of the boxthorn branch was in the range of 89-363 rad/s for the overall varieties and branch types. A good correlation (r$\cong$0.82) existed between the natural frequency and branch diameter in overall varieties and branch type.

  • In the present paper, we report a molecular dynamics (MD) simulation of non-rigid zeolite-A framework only as the base case for a consistent study of the role of intraframework interaction on several zeolite-A systems using the same technique in our previous studies of rigid zeolite-A frameworks. Usual bond stretching, bond angle bending, torsional rotational, and non-bonded Lennard-Jones and electrostatic interactions are considered as intraframework interaction potentials. The comparison of experimental and calculated structural parameters confirms the validity of our MD simulation for zeolite-A framework. The radial distribution functions of non-rigid zeolite-A framework atoms characterize the vibrational motion of the framework atoms. Mean square displacements are all periodic with a short period of 0.08 ps and a slow change in the amplitude of the vibration with a long period of 0.53 ps. The displacement auto-correlation (DAC) and neighbor-correlation (DNC) functions describe the up-and-down motion of the framework atoms from the center of α-cage and the back-and-forth motion on each ring window from the center of each window. The DAC and DNC functions of the framework atoms from the center of α-cage at the 8-ring windows have the same period of the up-and-down motion, but those functions from the center of 8-ring window at the 8-ring windows are of different periods of the back-and-forth motion.

  • The power measurement of main propulsion system on the new vessels can be classified with the direct method acquired from the shaft's strain using strain gauge and the indirect method converted and summed from all of cylinders combustion pressure using mechanical or electrical pickup device during the sea trial. This power is fluctuated by external factors which was influenced by various sea motions with long time interval and by internal factors which was influenced by varying torques of torsional vibration and bending moment, due to mis-aligned shaft and whirling vibration with short time interval. In this paper, the statistical analysis method for the shaft power measurement and assessment using strain gauge in marine vessels are introduced. And these are identified by the low speed two stroke diesel engine model and four stroke medium speed diesel engine model including reduction gear.

  • Stiffened plate structure, which is generally used in the various structural design to develope the load carrying capacity, is classified in two groups; one is the plate stiffened with stiffeners, the other is corrugated plate. In the studies on those structures, the studies on the stiffened plates with stiffeners have been much studied with both quantities and qualities according to requirements of the minimum-weight structural design and the development in many industrial fields, especially automobile, ship and aerospace fields, but the studies on the corrugated plates are undeveloped in comparison with the stiffened plates, and also the analytical stiffness on the corrugated plates remains as the imperfect. In the present studies, the analytical method on the stiffness of corrugated plates made by folding is proposed, and the stiffness equation of corrugated plates with some angle is derived and generalized. The purpose of the present study is to contribute to the design of corrugated plates and to determine the optimum aspect ratio for parameters that decide the aspect of corrugated plates.
