  • The objective of this research was to evaluate the growth performance, the apparent ileal digestibility of nitrogen and energy, the retention of nutrients and the apparent metabolizable energy corrected to zero nitrogen retention (AMEn) in broiler chickens supplemented with increasing doses of a worm leachate (WL) as a source of humic substances (HS) in the drinking water. In Exp. 1, 140 male broilers were penned individually and assigned to four WL levels (0%, 10%, 20%, and 30%) mixed in the drinking water from 21 to 49 days of age. Water was offered in plastic bottles tied to the cage. In Exp. 2, 600 male broilers from 21 to 49 days of age housed in floor pens were assigned to three levels of WL (0%, 10%, and 20%) mixed in the drinking water. The WL was mixed with tap water in plastic containers connected by plastic tubing to bell drinkers. The results of both experiments were subjected to analysis of variance and polynomial contrasts. In Exp. 1, the daily water consumption was similar among treatments but the consumption of humic, fulvic, and total humic acids increased linearly (p<0.01) as the WL increased in the drinking water. The feed conversion (p<0.01) and the ileal digestibility of energy, the excretion of dry matter and energy, the retention of dry matter, ash and nitrogen and the AMEn showed quadratic responses (p<0.05) relative to the WL levels in drinking water. In Exp. 2, the increasing level of WL in the drinking water had quadratic effects on the final body weight, daily weight gain and feed conversion ratio (p<0.05). The addition of WL as a source of HS in the drinking water had beneficial effects on the growth performance, ileal digestibility of energy, the retention of nutrients as well on the AMEn in broiler chickens; the best results were observed when the WL was mixed at levels of 20% to 30% in the drinking water.

  • This study examined the ideal image and fashion of Korean women in the 1970s from a socio-cultural context. This study used information on the 1970s politics, economy, and culture provided by "Chosun Ilbo" and "Yosungjungang" as well as their presentation of the ideal image and fashion for Korean women in the 1970s. The ideal image and fashion of women were considered from the viewpoint of Hamilton's Meta-theory. The ideal image of women in the 1970s is divided into two aspects. The image from the traditional Confucian perspective was prevalent and restricted the lives of women to housekeeping chores. On the contrary, women have increasingly participated in society vis-$\grave{a}$-vis education and employment opportunities to present a progressive image of women. These aspects coexisted during the turmoil of social change. Progressive women had money to buy clothes because they were economically independent. These women embraced styles that included mini, midi, maxi, and bell-bottom pants. Further, pants were developed into different styles such as pant suits. T-shirts and blue jeans as casual wear were very popular among the youth. At the end of the 1970s, the tailored look and the big look (which copied men's clothing) were in fashion. Masculine styles such as wide shoulders with pads and neckties strengthened gender equality. Other fashions were dominated by feminine styles described as beautiful, sweet, and elegant that reflected Korean society's tendency to regard women as sex objects. Clothing that exposed the body highlights this sexual objectification aspect. Women wore miniskirts, hot pants, and bikinis because they wanted to enhance their sex appeal, propagating the view of women as sex objects. In conclusion, all aspects of society and culture were closely interrelated with a fashion style that reflected the values of those aspects.

  • Galla Rhois is a nest of parasitic bug, Mellaphis chinensis Bell, in Rhus chinensis Mill. Galla Rhois has been used for the therapy of diarrhea, peptic ulcer, hemauria, etc., that showed various antiinflammatory activity, and other biological properties. We studied the effect of Galla Rhois water extract(GRWE). The cytotoxic activity of GRWE in HL-60 cells was increased in a concentration-dependent manner. GRWE was cytotoxic to HL-60 cells, with $IC_50$ of $100{\mu}g/m{\ell}$. Treatment of GRWE to HL-60 cells showed the fragmentation of DNA in a concentration manner, suggesting that these cells underwent apoptosis. In addition, the flow cytometric analysis revealed GRWE concentration-dependently increased apoptotic cells with hypodiploid DNA content and arrested G1 phase of cell cycle. These results indicate that GRWE may have a possibility of potential anticancer activities. Treatment of HL-60 cells with GRWE was induced activation of caspase-3, caspase-8 and proteolytic cleavage of poly(ADP-ribose) polymerase. Also, caspase-3 was directly activated via caspase-8 activation. GRWE also caused the release of cytochrome c from mitochondria into the cytosol. GRWE-induced cytochrome c release was mediated by caspase-8-dependent cleavage of Bid and Bax translocation. These results suggest that caspase-8 mediates caspase-3 activation and cytochrome c release during GRWE-induced apoptosis in HL-60 cells.

  • This study investigated pre-service teachers' understanding of statistical sampling. The researchers categorized major topics related to sampling into representativeness of samples, sampling variability, and sampling distribution, and selected concepts connected to each topic. Findings on this study are as follows: Even though most of the pre-service teachers considered the random sampling bringing unbiased outcomes as a proper sampling method, only 64% of them recognized that sample is a quasi-proportional, small-scale version of population; Few pre-service teachers understood that more important is the size of sample, not the portion of sample to population, and half of them appreciated that the number of sampling has a powerful effect on drawing of reliable results than the size of sample; Few pre-service teachers understood that sampling distribute is irrelevant to the shape of population and has a symmetrical bell-shape.

  • The spermiogenesis of Cipangopaludina chinensis malleata began with the changes of nucleus and cytoplasm. The chromatin in the nucleus began to stack and condense around perinuclear envelope. Axonema (doublet microtubules of 9+2) appeared in the cytoplasm. After this process, the cytoplasm was protruded and the bell-shaped nucleus was located on protruding part of it. The electron dense masses were distributed throughout cytoplasm and lysed or secreted by exocytosis of lysosomal vacuoles. Especially, some mitochondria were migrated by the doublet microtubules of axonema toward nucleus. The axoneme was enclosed by electron dense materials after exocytosis of unnecessary materials for the tail formation. The electron dense masses were released and migrated into the each part through microtubules or axonemal doublet microtubules as the granular particles. These granular particles were containing glycogen. Ultimately, the condensed head developed into helical and neck region into cylindrical shape respectively. The mitochondria which have regular lamellar layers at cross axis became to middle piece, and then spermatozoon was completely matured. Thus, these phenomena showed special processes in spermiogenesis, those were as follows; chromatin in the head was condensed, the head was changed into helical shape, and cytoplasmic materials are migrated and transferred into the each part in the tail by mitochondria and microtubules.

  • The formation mechanism of the vortex streets in the lee of the mountain Is Investigated by a three-dimensional numerical model. The model is based upon the hydrostatic Boussinesq equations in which the vertical turbulent momentum flux is estimated by a turbulence parameterization scheme, but the horizontal viscosity is assumed to be constant. The results show that Karman vortex streets can form even without surface friction in a constant ambient flow with uniform stratification. The vortex formation is related to breaking of the mountain wave, which depends on the Froude number (Fr). In the case of a three-dimensional bell-shaped mountain, the wave breaking occurs when Fr is less than about 0.8, while a barman vortex forms when Fr is less than about 0.22. Vortex formation also depends on Reynolds number, which is estimated from the horizontal diffusivity. The vortex formation can be explained by the wave saturation theory given by Lindzen (1981) with some modification. Simulations in this study show that in the case of Karman vortex formation the momentum flux in the lower level is much larger than the saturated momentum flux, whereas it is almost equal to the saturated momentum at the upper levels as expected from the saturation theory. As a result, large flux divergence is produced in the lower layer, the mean flow is decelerated behind the mountain, and the horizontal wind shear forms between unmodified ambient wind. The momentum exchange between the mean flow and the mountain wave is produced by the turbulence within a breaking wave. From the result, well developed vortices like Karman vortex can be formed. . The results of the momentum budget calculated by the hydrostatic model are almost the same as nonhydrostatic results as long as horizontal scale of the mountain is 10 km. A well developed barman vortex similar to the hydrostatic one was simulated in the nonhydrostatic case. Therefore, we conclude that the hydrostatic assumption is adequate to investigate the origin of the Km8n vortex from the viewpoint of wave breaking.

  • This study evaluated non-liturgical space of catholic churches based on the four principles of universal design; accessible design, supportive design, safety-oriented design, and adaptable design. To design those spaces in terms of supportive design principle, diaper exchanging station needs to be placed in the restroom. Findings of this study are as follows: In terms of accessible design, valid width of entrance door to each room(more than 800mm), installation of elevator, height of riser in the stair, and width of step board were appropriate, but there were many spaces where door sils were not removed. In terms of supportive design, notice board at teacher's room and installation of storage closet, and width of passage to office(more than 1,200mm) were also appropriate, but storage closet at a meeting and prayer room, and space for storing flowers appeared inappropriate. To design those spaces in terms of supportive design principle, diaper exchanging station needs to be placed in the restroom. In terms of safety-oriented design, installation of round-edged furniture, use of non-slip flooring material, installation of safety emergency bell at a restroom, and installation of wall handle were required. In terms of adaptable design, space for wheelchair users at each room, installation of the furniture that can adjust the height, installation of desk with different height at an office, installation of toilet and basin considering children were considered to be necessary.

  • This paper presents theoretical and experimental analysis on the characteristics of the power spectrum of electormagnetic waves radiating from the spark plug and their cables of a distributorless ignition system. The theoretical study was conducted applying the microwave transmission line theory and the antenna theory. The experimental works were carried out to measure the standing wave ratio(SWR) and the radiation power spectrum of this system. As a result, it has been found that a spark plug and its cable is working as a monopole antenna radiating elelctromagnetic waves. Because of its similar structure to a monopole antenna, the envelope of radiation power spectrum distribution has a bell shape which can be obtained from a monopole antenna operating as a series resonant circuit. The frequency characteristics from the SWR measurements show a similar frequency characteristics of power spectrum of the system studied. Also, it has been found that the density of the power spectrum of the system fitting a long time used spark plug is higher than that of fitting a new spark plug.
