The study of handiwork techniques of ancient granule (고대 누금 세공기법 제작기술 연구)

  • The replica experiment of golden bell excavated from the East Three-Story Pagoda at the Gamunsa temple was carried out in order to know the handiwork technique of ancient granule. The size of 0.3mm granule was attached to the golden bell which was 3.4mm bell body by soldering. When we tried to attach the granule by a modern metalwork, we could know that this technique was hard to make the replica bell. We could prove how to adhere strongly to the golden granule by tension testing. First of all, we made the soldering of the same composition as the golden bell excavated from the Gamunsa temple and then prepared specimens for testing to measure the tension strength. It showed that the broken position was not a soldering part. This result showed how the ancient granule could maintain without a break for a long time.

Effects of MA Storage with Fine Holes For Red Chili Pepper and Red Bell Pepper Fruits (홍고추 및 홍피망의 미세공 MA저장 효과)

  • The effects of modified atmosphere(MA) storage for fresh red chili pepper and red bell pepper fruits were investigated with storing in polyethylene film with various fine holes. During the storage of the both pepper fruits, the weight loss, color change, mold emergence, and firmness were evaluated. The weight loss of pepper fruits packaged without holes on film was less than 3%, even though it was each 50% and 25% for non packaged red chili pepper and red bell pepper fruits. The rates of mold emergence of red chili pepper and red bell pepper fruits were reached to each 60% and 50% at the end of storage period as stored in film without holes. However, the rate of mold emergence of pepper fruits was lowered when fruits were stored in MA with low relative humidity (70∼80%). The color and firmness of pepper fruits were not much changed when fruits were stored in MA with high humidity.

  • Vibration beat phenomenon is theoretically investigated on a slightly asymmetric cylindrical shell, which is a simplified model of Korean bell. Mode pairs of the slightly asymmetric shell are obtained by receptance analysis and impulse response of the shell is derived using modal expansion and Laplace transform. Based on the impulse response model, beat mapping method is proposed to explain the reason that the beat of a bell vibration shows periodic distribution on the circumference. Beat characteristics of King Song-Dok Bell are explained in detail using the beat map and the measured modal data.

  • In this study, we propose a practical method to improve the clarity and the period of the beat in a Korean bell. Proper beating in vibration and sound is very important feature in Korean bell. An equivalent ring theory is applied and finite element analysis is performed to determine the condition of the asymmetry of the bell. The clearity and the period of the beat are improved by attaching a counter mass or decreasing local thickness.   • The photophone, Alexander Graham Bell's device for transmitting sound through light was patented in 1880. It included the transmitter modulating and reflecting strong light like sunlight to a distant receiver which produced sound. In this working of the photophone, the discovery of the sound-emitting effect under illumination was very essential. Longing for being famous in the scientific community, Bell focused on presenting various methods for producing sounds and for maximizing the loudness by performing intensive research on the photoacoustic effect. Bell's scientific research on photoacoustics was successful in establishing himself as a scientist and laid a foundation of photoacoustic analysis. And his invention became a basis for other researchers' subsequent technologies like fiber-optic communication.

  • Vibration and sound characteristics of King Song-Dok Bell are measured and the modal property is investigated. The effect of striking position and modal property on the beat characteristics is examined. It is first found that the beat characteristics are quite different according to the position on the bell surface and clear beat is periodically generated on the circumference. It turns out that in King Song-Dok Bell, striking Dangjwa(the present striking position) makes a beat in the first vibration mode, as well as it produces very clear beat in the second vibration mode.

The effect of striking position and the position of nodal lines on the beat characteristics is examined. It is first found that the beat characteristics are quote different according to the position on the bell surface and clear beat is periodically generated on the circumference. It turns out that in King Song-Dok Bell, Dangjwa(the present striking position) is located at the position which makes a beat in the first vibration mode, as welt as it produces very clear beat In the second vibration mode.

  • Bell's palsy is an acute peripheral facial paralysis with no detectable cause. Although the prognosis of Bell's palsy is generally good, some patients experience poor recoveries and there is no established treatment for those that do not recover even after receiving the conventional treatment. Here we present two cases of refractory Bell's palsy with facial nerve enhancement in magnetic resonance imaging who showed symptomatic improvement after the late administration of high-dose intravenous methylprednisolone.

  • Digilog Book lets users feel analog book and digital contents by combining each advantage of analog sensibility and digital sensation. This paper mentions about technical details for implementing an example of Digilog book: a temple bell experience system. Our system includes providing multisensory feedback to users, substituting fiducial marker with figure marker, presenting visual effect when a temple bell appearing on a 2D plane, pushing augmented buttons using bare fingers for observation of the bell, and lastly pointing a specific part of the bell for obtaining description on that part. The implemented temple bell experience system can motivate users to experience cultural heritages of our country as educational contents.

Study on the Application of DITI in Bell's Palsy Patients with Acupoints (Bell's palsy 환자에서 두면부 경혈의 적외선 체열촬영의 활용)

  • Objective: The aims of this study are to find out proper methods to assess Bell's palsy with DITI and to validate the correlation between DITI of acupoints and H-B scale. Methods: 36 Bell's palsy patients and 10 health people were measured. We checked thermal differences between abnormal and normal acupoints sites measured by using DITI and H-B scale. Results: There was no significant thermal difference between abnormal and normal sites. The H-B scale was significantly correlated with thermal differences of ST6 and TE17. Conclusion: DITI was useful for evaluating the severity of Bell's palsy.
