Fingerprint verification is being adopted widely to provide positive identification with a high degree of confidence in all practical areas. This popular usage requires reliable methods for matching of these patterns. To meet the latest expectations, the paper presents a pair wise distance histogram method for fingerprint matching. Here, we introduced a randomized algorithm which exploits pair wise distances between the pairs of minutiae, as a basic feature for match. The method undergoes two steps for completion i.e. first it performs the matching locally then global matching parameters are calculated in second step. The proposed method is robust to common problems that fingerprint matching faces, such as scaling, rotation, translational changes and missing points etc. The paper includes the test of algorithm on various randomly generated minutiae and real fingerprints as well. The results of the tests resemble qualities and utility of method in related field.

Recently, there are many communication softwares based on text on various smart devices. Unlike traditional print publishing, mobile publishing and SNS tools tends to utilize more decorative or more emotional fonts so that users can pass some feelings from contents. So font providers have released new fonts which deal with the requirements of the market. Nevertheless being released lots of new fonts, general users have not used them because they searched only by font name or font provider's name. It means that there is no way for users to know and find new things. In this study, we suggest font shape classification rules for font registration system based on font design features. We proved the validity of classification standard study through some experiments with 50 commercial fonts. Also the result of this study was provided for Korea Telecommunication Technology Association and adopted by the Korea industrial standard.

Light guide plate is one of most important components which are composed of back light unit, affecting the quality and performance of LCD. Average brightness and uniformity are especially key factors for designing the light guide unit. These qualities are affected and controlled by the pattern being attached to the back of light guide unit. In order to obtain high brightness and uniformity the optimized pattern design is adopted for LGP. In this study, optimized molding condition for LGP with 0.4 mm thickness was obtained by using the Moldflow simulation software and the optimized pattern for better brightness uniformity was designed for the thickness of the 0.4 mm by trial and error method. The brightness was measured for the different LGP thicknesses and the residual stress analysis was performed for 0.4 mmthickness by the photoelasticity and the results are compared with 0.5 mm, 0.6 mm thickness.

A new campaign, known as "Six Sigma", to increase market share, decrease costs, and grow profit margins has been adopted by a selected group of leaders in American industry. Although the initial emphasis of Six Sigma was for quality improvement in manufacturing, it is rapidly being applied in key areas beyond manufacturing, and beyond what would traditionally be considered quality. There are a lot of Six Sigma success stories in companies such as Motorola, AlliedSignal, Asea Brown Boveri, and GE. The financial results of Six Sigma in those companies are investigated and their success factors are discussed. The applications of Six Sigma in Korean companies such as Samsung Display Device, Hanjung, and LG Electronics are also introduced.

In just-in-time production systems, U-shaped production lines rather than traditional straight lines are often adopted since they have some advantages. The advantages of U-lines over straight lines are that the workstations required can be reduced and the necessary number of workers can be easily adjusted when the demand rates are changed. In this paper, we present a new heuristic based on genetic algorithm to improve the workload smoothness in the U-line. In the proposed algorithm, a new genetic representation is developed which is specific to the problem being solved. To enhance the capability of searching good solutions, genetic operators are designed by using the problem-specific information and heuristics. Extensive experiments are carried out on well-known test-bed problems in the literature to verify the performance of our algorithm. The computational results show that our algorithm is a promising alternative to existing heuristics.

The capacity design rule for beam-column joints, as adopted by the EC8, forces the formation of the plastic hinges to be developed in beams rather than in columns. This is achieved by deriving the design moments of the columns of a joint from equilibrium conditions, assuming that plastic hinges with their possible overstrengths have been developed in the adjacent beams of the joint. In this equilibrium the parameters (dimensions, material properties, axial forces etc) are, in general, random variables. Hence, the capacity design is associated with a probability of non-compliance (probability of failure). In the present study the probability of non-compliance of the capacity design rule of joints is being calculated by assuming the basic variables as random variables. Parameters affecting this probability are examined and a modification of the capacity design rule for beam-column joints is proposed, in order to achieve uniformity of the safety level.

Turbocharger has been used to increase the performance of diesel engine, especially ship engine , for years. Recently, the turbocharger is being adopted not only for an agricultural engine but also for an automobile engine. To improve the performance of diesel engine , the problem of the reduction of A/F ratio in high speed should be solved. Turbocharger is well known for its cost effectiveness, reliability and duration . In this study, an experiment was conducted to verify simulation program . The results for natural aspiration engine and turbocharged engine were compared. In order to estimate the characteristics of exhaust gas, D-13 mode was selected. Power, torque and BSFC of turbocharged engine were increased than those of natural aspiration engine by about 48%, 46% and 5%, respectively . The components in exhaust gas except NOx from turbocharger engine were less than the amount set up for 2000-year regulation.

By using image recognition technology, this paper presents a new fault diagnosis method for rotating machinery with artificial immune algorithm. This method focuses on the vibration state parameter image. The main contribution of this paper is as follows: firstly, 3-D spectrum is created with raw vibrating signals. Secondly, feature information in the state parameter image of rotating machinery is extracted by using Wavelet Packet transformation. Finally, artificial immune algorithm is adopted to diagnose rotating machinery fault. On the modeling of 600MW turbine experimental bench, rotor's normal rate, fault of unbalance, misalignment and bearing pedestal looseness are being examined. It's demonstrated from the diagnosis example of rotating machinery that the proposed method can improve the accuracy rate and diagnosis system robust quality effectively.

The changes of prison facilities in the age of Enlightenment and Industrial Revolution, implies viewpoints architectural space as a representation of power. The aim of the study is to examine the structuralistic approach based on two authors of Michel Foucault and Robin Evans. Both texts are summarized and analyzed to make comparison. While Foucault concentrates upon the ideas relating to punishment which preceded and led to the prison being adopted, Evans regards the reality of punishment as it was executed in its architectural context. The study compares the fundamental difference between the two texts; the approach that each author takes with regard to the central issue of the history of penality. These two different interpretations dictate the framework of each discourse and has resulted a number of different notions of ideas. By comparing divergence and convergence of the texts, the study analyzes each author's methodology, theoretical position and notions of prison. Keywords are also extracted to articulate the study and each author's arguments as well.

This on-board signaling system has been designed with a priority on safety. The system has been devised for both safety, and also the efficiency of train operation. The Importance of signaling system is gradually being recognized with the continuous rise of operating speed and transporting density. Until now, the adaptation of signaling system was totally dependent on foreign signaling companies, as it was difficult to be accessed by domestic technology. But, successful commercial operation of the ATC/ATO system, which is adopted in the development of Kwangju Line No.1, heralds the use of domestic technology, which will be the basis of all future domestic signaling systems.
