Roughness coefficients calibrated by flow modeling using the 1-dimensional numerical model were analyzed for the downstream section of Naesung Stream in this study. Also, the bedform configuration at the Hyangseok Station was predicted for measured and simulated hydraulic conditions of flows and total flow roughness was estimated with the coefficient of grain roughness. The Manning's n coefficients calibrated by numerical modeling and estimated by considering of grain and bedform roughness were compared and examined. As a result, the Manning's n by numerical modeling was greater than the coefficient range estimated by grain and bedform roughness at the low flow regime due to the other factors such as vegetation, sinuosity, and sand bar. However, the Manning's n by numerical modeling was included in the coefficient range by grain and bedform roughness at the transition and high flow regime over $500m^3/s$ of flow discharge.
Bedform data at 4 shallow zones in the Yellow Sea where waves as well as tidal range are high and bed material is relatively coarse were collected and analyzed here. Water depths in the study area where the bedform data were collected are 10 ~ 65 meters, and ripple lengths well developed are between 6 ~ 13 meters. Existing empirical formula for prediction of ripple length as for coexistence of waves and currents include Khelifa and Ouellet(2000) and Soulsby(2005), both of which have been based on laboratory measurements, or field measurements at different physical environment from the Yellow Sea with respect to tidal range, wave strength, and bed material. New scaling factors are proposed here for better prediction of the ripple length on coastal zone in the Yellow Sea.
A sedimentation study of the Cheonripo intertidal beach sands and its related coastal dune sands, Cheonripo, Seosan Gun, Choongcheong Namdo, Korea has been carried out based on a series of several summer time field surveys. Each subenvironment in the Cheonripo coastal zone, that is, intertidal sand beach and coastal sand dune, could be differenciated in terms of textural parameters. The coastal dune sands are finer than the intertidal beach sands in mean grain size, and the sorting of dune sands is relatively poorer than that of intertidal beach sands. However, the skewness of intertidal beach and dune sands is commonly positive. Such textural parameters are characteristically differentiated on scatter diagrams. A series of megaripple bedform observations for 6 tidal cycle periods(August 13, 14 and 15, 1990) are interpreted to find out migration pattern of bedforms and its related sand migration. Such migration natures are shown on the tables and figures.
Bedform morphology of the giant ripples have been studied on the continental shelf of the Yellow Sea, East China sea and Korea-Tsushima Strait on the basis of side-scan sonar image, sub-bottom profile, sedimentary facies, geomorphology evidence and hydrology. There are well developed giant ripples ranging from 100 to 500 m in wavelengths and from 2 to 10 m in wave height at nine sites in the study area, which are covered by medium to fine sand. Most of them have been formed under the present hydrologic regime where the tidal currents and local currents or turbulence flows are superimposed. In the study area, giant ripples are produced on two different environments. One is at the geomorphic narrow zone such as the Korea Strait where currents are accelerated by the topographic effects, while the other is the sandy flat plain where tidal currents and local currents are harmonized.
A large subtidal sand ridge (Jungang Satoe) in Asan Bay, on the west coast of Korea, was studied in order to understand the morphology and sediment transport trend in a macrotidal setting, by means of analyzing sediment samples, current data, side-scan sonographs and seismic profiles. The ridge is about 15 km long and 2-5 km wide, with a relief of about 15 m. It is elongated in the flow direction of flood (SE) and ebb (NW) tidal currents, but asymmetrical in cross section. The western and southwestern side of the ridge is characterized by relatively gentle slopes averaging 0.4$^{\circ}$, whereas on the northeastern side, relatively steep slopes were mapped with 1.6$^{\circ}$ slope angles. Tidal currents associated with the ridge are very strong; maximum surface velo-cities range from neap values of 50 cm/s to spring values of 130 cm/s. The shear velocities during flood and ebb are strong enough to erode and transport sands on the ridge. Sand waves and megaripples (dunes) are the most common bedforms produced by the tidal currents, which show regional differences in shape and size on the ridge. The distribution pattern of these bedforms in-dicates that the flood tidal currents are dominant on the offshore (northwest) side of the ridge, whereas the onsho.e (southeast) side of the ridge is ebb-dominated. The sand transport path as inferred from bedform orientations is directed toward the ridge crest on the flanks, whereas on the crest, it is near-longitudinal to the ridge axis. The convergent, upslope movement of sands on the ridge flanks appears to be important in sand ridge building and maintenance. A significant ridge migration toward the northeast can be suspected on the basis of the ridge morphology, which may cause offshore hazards for navigation.

The bedform stability diagram indicates the shape and size of bedforms that will occur to a given grain size and flow velocity. The diagram has been constructed from experimental data which have been mostly acquired by flume experiments. Generally, the flume experiments have been performed on well sorted sediments with unimodal grain size distribution, in order to understand relationship between grain size and flow velocity. According to the diagram, a ripple structure initiates to be formed from lower flow regime flat bed, as the flow velocity increases on the surface of fine-sand or medium-sand sediments. This study aims to verify that the experimental result of bedform stability diagram will be reproduced in our flume experimental systems, and also to confirm that the result is consistent not only on well-sorted sand sediments but also on poorly-sorted sand sediments with bimodal grain size distribution. The experimental results in this study show that initiation of 2D or 3D ripple structure on poorly-sorted sand sediments requires higher flow velocity and shear stress than those for initiation of the structure on well-sorted sand sediments. In general, carbonate sediments are characterized by poor sorting due to inactive hydraulic sorting and bimodal grain size distribution with allochems and matrices. The results suggest that the carbonate depositional system possibly need a higher flow velocity for initial formation of 2D or 3D bedform structures. The reason might be the fact that pulling off and lifting of a grain in poorly sorted sediments require more energy due to sorting, friction, stabilization, armour effects, and their complex interaction. This preliminary study warrants additional experiments under various conditions and more accurate analysis on the relationship between formation of bedforms and grain size distribution.
This paper presents a non-isotropic turbulence modeling of flows over bedforms. The Reynolds stress model is used for the turbulence closure. In the model, Launder, Reece, and Rodi's model and Hanjalic and Launder's model are employed f3r the pressure strain correlation term and the diffusion term, respectively. The mean flow and turbulence structures are simulated and compared with profiles measured in the experiments. The numerical solutions from two-equation turbulence models are also provided for comparisons. The Reynolds stress model yields the separation length of eddy similar to the other numerical results. Using the developed model, the resistance coefficients are also estimated for the flows at different Froude numbers. Karim's (1999) relationship is used to determine the bedform geometry. It is found that the values of the form drag and the skin friction are very similar to those obtained by the other turbulence models. meaning higher values of the form drag and lower values of the skin friction compared with the empirical formulas.

Both scatterer method and transfer matrix method are compared to analyze their characteristics, which are wave propagation models due to topographic change based on plane wave approximation. Results from the scatterer method are closer to the results obtained by the more accurate existing models and it is appraised that the scatterer method gives the clearer explanation about physical process involved in the wave transformation. Since both methods have analytical solutions, in the computational point of view they are very fast and easy to be implemented. Both methods give a good prediction for wave scattering by relatively simple bedform.

Two different modelling approaches to dune dynamics have been established thus far; continuous models that emphasize the precise representation of wind field, and feedback-based models that focus on the interactions between dunes, rather than aerodynamics. Though feedback-based models have proven their capability to capture the essence of dune dynamics, the compatibility issues on these models have less been addressed. This research investigated, mostly from the theoretical point of view, the algorithmic compatibility of three feedback-based dune models: sand slab models, Nishimori model, and de Castro model. Major findings are as follows. First, sand slab models and de Castro model are both compatible in terms of flux perspectives, whereas Nishimori model needs a tuning factor. Second, the algorithm of avalanching can be easily implemented via repetitive spatial smoothing, showing high compatibility between models. Finally, the wind shadow rule might not be a necessary component to reproduce dune patterns unlike the interpretation or assumption of previous studies. The wind shadow rule, rather, might be more important in understanding bedform-level interactions. Overall, three models show high compatibility between them, or seem to require relatively small modification, though more thorough investigation is needed.

There are several tuff cones and tuff rings, now only apparent on the western shoreline in Cheju Island. The observation of their landform, bedform, particle size and sorting reveals that these deposits are mainly emplaced by base surges and/or slurries originating from Surtseyan eruption which is attributed to explosive hydrovolcanism influenced by interaction of magma with external water. These are subdivided into two groups based on the plateau basalt. It is recognized that the distal limb of early tuff cones and ring at Dangsanbong, Dansan, Sanbangsan and Hwasun (lower group) are overlain by plateau basalt, on which later tuff rigns at Suwolbong and Songaksan(upper group) further extend the distal limb from each vent. The tuff cones and tuff rings are closely associated with the evidences which shelly fragments are comprised within them, and reworked tuffs, raised beach deposits, Sinyangri formation and littoral cones are deposited around them. The evidences suggest that the Surtseyan eruption resulted from direct or indirect interaction of magma with sea water.
