  • Rapid urbanization causes a variety of transportation problems, including parking. Then transportation engineers would get involved in trying to solve parking problem. Estimation of parking demand is essential for finding a solution to the parking problem. Estimation of parking demand generally uses the "parking basic unit"; however, the parking basic unit does not totally determine parking demand. This study analyzes the problems with using the parking basic unit with a field investigation and the establishment of a new parking demand calculation model. Parking basic units estimated from the mean parking basic unit method are higher than those resulting from a regression analysis. However, parking basic units resulting from these methods fail to satisfy parking demand in many buildings. Analysis results for a cumulative distribution of parking basic units are reasonable if they satisfy 88% of parking demand in buildings. However, parking basic units that satisfy 88% of parking demand in buildings is a problem in some areas with an oversupply of parking lots. Ultimately, this study establishes a parking demand calculation model.

  • In fabricating linear actuator using the GMA(Giant Magnetostrictive Alloy : Terfenol-D). the clamping unit is needed to accumlate each displacement from the GMA rod. Two types of the clamping unit (one is using piezoelectric device and the other electromagnetic farce) were made and tested. From the result of the experiment, we conclude that the electromagnetic clamping unit has advantages over the piezoelectric clamping unit.

  • The adequacy of industrial water supply is one of the core elements of the construction of industrial complexes. This study examined the supply of industrial water through various ways, according to the planning and creation of industrial complexes and the operating utilization rate of tenant companies oksan industrial complex. As for calculating the supply of industrial water and establishing water supply plan, the basic data analysis and the land use plan are utilised. The adequacy of calculating the basic unit by industry, which is the basis for calculating industrial water, was evaluated. In addition, analyzed industrial water usage data and the raw unit of each industry was compared with the actual data from the Oksan Industrial Complex, which selected as the research target area among the industrial complexes in Cheongju-si administrative districts, where actual data can be secured. The result of the study shows that the peak load rate of industrial water was found to have the peak load of more than twice as the result of analyzing the actual usage, and the basic unit of industrial water industry showed a significant difference from the actual usage. In particular, the decreasing rate of the basic units was significant comparing the increasing rate of basic units. In addition, the raw unit of the industry that uses more water decreased significantly, and the raw unit of the industry that uses less water increased slightly.

  • Purpose: Intensive Care Unit (ICU) is an important field of inpatient treatment, in which critically ill patients have been treated intensively with advanced medical technology. The level of treatment in the intensive care unit and the modernization of related facilities are important indicators of the quality of medical care. At present, when regional public hospitals are expanding frequently, reasonable planning of ICU has become an important part of medical institutions that treat ICU. The purpose of this study is to provide basic data on the net area of each unit, which can be used in ICU building planning. Methods: The investigation and analysis of the ICU were conducted in 12 medical institutions, based on theoretical analysis based on relevant guidelines and literature, and analysis of actual space composition and net area through architectural drawings. Results: This research provides basic data, such as the location relationship with other important departments, regional division, spatial composition, the relationship between main activities and regions, the composition of facilities in the region, and the area and proportions of each region. Implications: It is expected that the results of this article will provide effective reference materials for the reasonable spatial organization and effective operation of the intensive care units of ordinary public hospitals of different sizes in the future.

  • In this review, we discuss the genes and the related signal pathways that regulate aging and longevity by reviewing recent findings of genetic longevity models in rodents in reference to findings with lower organisms. We also paid special attention to the genes and signals mediating the effects of calorie restriction (CR), a powerful intervention that slows the aging process and extends the lifespan in a range of organisms. An evolutionary view emphasizes the roles of nutrient-sensing and neuroendocrine adaptation to food shortage as the mechanisms underlying the effects of CR. Genetic and non-genetic interventions without CR suggest a role for single or combined hormonal signals that partly mediate the effect of CR. Longevity genes fall into two categories, genes relevant to nutrient-sensing systems and those associated with mitochondrial function or redox regulation. In mammals, disrupted or reduced growth hormone (GH)-insulin-like growth factor (IGF)-1 signaling robustly favors longevity. CR also suppresses the GH-IGF-1 axis, indicating the importance of this signal pathway. Surprisingly, there are very few longevity models to evaluate the enhanced anti-oxidative mechanism, while there is substantial evidence supporting the oxidative stress and damage theory of aging. Either increased or reduced mitochondrial function may extend the lifespan. The role of redox regulation and mitochondrial function in CR remains to be elucidated.

  • This study examined the contents of 'Adolescent's Consumption Life' unit in 12 Technology Home Economics textbooks used in the 2009 revised curriculum to analyze the contents of school consumer education. The main summary of this study is as follows: First, the contents of consumer education in the unit of 'Adolescent's Consumption Life' consisted of five criteria including the understanding of adolescent consumer, consumer's right and responsibility, reasonable purchase, resolution to consumer problems, and the formation of new consumption culture. Second, significant differences were found in the contents of consumer education among textbooks because basic concepts have been not been clearly defined yet. Third, essential content was either omitted or hard to understand. Thus, some contents elaborations were inappropriate for students' level. Fourth, there were some limitations in drawing interest and attention from learners and developing dispute resolution competence, since the textbooks mainly comprised the theory-oriented contents of consumer education. Fifth, cautious consideration needs to be taken with regards to clear understanding of basic concepts and systematic and consistent contents composition for coherent and organized school consumer education. These research findings are anticipated to provide basic information of Technology Home Economics textbooks to teachers, and will be utilized as basic data in organizing textbook contents or developing efficient teaching-learning programs for consumer education.

  • As global warming progresses, nations around the world are trying to reduce emission of $CO_2$ that accounts for the greatest portion of greenhouse gases. To reduce $CO_2$ emission, it is first necessary to estimate $CO_2$ emission of each industry. Government authorities estimate basic unit of $CO_2$ emission from re-bar that is one of the key materials of construction industry with LCA technique (Life Cycle Assessment). However, basic unit of $CO_2$ emission varies from organization to organization. The Ministry of Land, Transport and Maritime Affairs (2004) publishes it 3.48($TCO_2/ton$) and 0.30($TCO_2/ton$) with input-output analysis while the Korea Environmental Industry & Technology Institute (2008) defines it as 0.34($TCO_2/ton$) with process analysis, which indicates ambiguity in application of basic unit of $CO_2$emission. Based on the analysis of conventional methods used for estimating the $CO_2$ emission, therefore, this research suggests existing problems on the methods and focuses on proposing an strategy to effectively estimate the basic unit of $CO_2$ emission according to the energy consumption limited to the re-bar production in steel mill in order to overcome the problems. The result of this research is expected to be helpful in calculating and reducing $CO_2$ emission.
