Comparative Study of Physical Properties of Functional Ophthalmic Hydrogel Lens Using Photo and Thermal Polymerization

  • In this study, HEMA, MMA, AA, and EGDMA were used as basic combinations for manufacturing hydrophilic lenses for ophthalmic applications. In addition, AIBN (thermal polymerization initiator), 2H2M (photo polymerization initiator), and 3-hydroxypyridine (additive) were used to manufacture hydrophilic ophthalmic lenses through thermal polymerization and photo polymerization before their physical properties were measured. The results showed that when ophthalmic lenses were prepared via thermal polymerization and photo polymerization using 3-hydroxypyridine as an additive, their optical and physical properties and surface structures were different in each case, but they all satisfied the physical properties required for ophthalmic lenses.

Silicene on Other Two-dimensional Materials: Formation of Heterostructure

  • Silicene is one of the most interesting two-dimensional materials, because of not only the extraordinary properties similar to graphene, but also easy compatibility with existing silicon-based devices. However, non-existing graphitic-like structure on silicon and unstable free-standing silicene structure leads to difficulty in commercialization of this material. Therefore, substrates are essential for silicene, which affects various properties of silicene and supporting unstable structure. For maintaining outstanding properties of silicene, van der Waals bonding between silicene and substrate is essential because strong interaction, such as silicene with metal, breaks the band structure of silicene. Therefore, we review the stability of silicene on other two-dimensional materials for van der Waals bonding. In addition, the properties of silicene are reviewed for silicene-based heterostructure.

Fabrication Technique of Nanoemulsion Using Silicone Oil and Application as Hydrophilic Ophthalmic Lens

  • In order to maximize the function and increase the compatibility of silicone hydrogel lens, this study compared and analyzed the properties of Amino modified silicone oil using mini and microemulsion technique, respectively. Optical and physical properties were evaluated by spectral transmittance, refractive index, water content, oxygen transmittance and contact angle measurements to evaluate the performance of the manufactured hydrogel lens. The spectral transmittance results revealed the copolymerization method lens showed 31 % of the visible light area, which did not satisfy the basic optical properties. However, the lens using the mini and microemulsion materials showed more than 90 % of the visible light area, satisfying the optical characteristics. In addition, all physical properties were superior to a basic hydrogel lens. The mini and microemulsion techniques effectively improved the stability and function of the ophthalmic hydrogel lens and are considered a promising ways of manufacturing an ophthalmic hydrogel contact lens with increased compatibility and stability.

Physical and Optical Properties of Hydrophilic Tinted Lens Materials with the Fluoro-substituted Aniline Group

  • The physical and optical properties of polymers with 2-fluoroaniline and 4-fluoroaniline added, which can be used for hydrophilic ophthalmic lenses, were investigated in this study. The UV-blocking properties of 2- and 4-fluoroaniline were also investigated by measuring their UV transmissibility. 2- and 4-Fluoroaniline were used as additives for the basic combination of HEMA, 5% AA, and 1% MMA, and the materials were copolymerized with EGDMA as the cross-linking agent and AIBN as the initiator. The refractive index, water content, optical transmittance, tensile strength, and contact angle were measured to evaluate the physical properties of the produced hydrogel lens. The measured physical properties of the hydrogel contact lens produced with the copolymerized polymer showed a refractive index of 1.425-1.436; a water content of 36.95-44.65%; a visual light transmittance of 66.0-81.0%; a tensile strength of 0.138-0.281 kgf; and a contact angle of $55.02-57.87^{\circ}$. The UV transmissibility was significantly reduced, which indicates that 2-fluoroaniline and 4-fluoroaniline have UV-blocking properties. This study showed that 2- and 4-fluoroaniline are expected to be used as UV-blocking materials in hydrogel ophthalmic lenses whose physical properties, such as their refractive index and water content, do not change.

  • In this paper the systematic modeling method of general wheeled mobile robot is proposed. First we show how to describe kinematics properties of wheeled mobile robot in the method formulating constraint equations using Basic Homogeneous Transform(BHT) which is used mainly the kinematics modeling of manipulator, and, under assumption it's provided part of nullvector in given constraint equations, find kinematics model of mobile robot related to actuators in real robot.

Tundish Coating Powder의 염기성화에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Basic Tundish Coating Powder)

  • The properties of basic tundish coating powder were investigated comparing with acidic tundish coating powder especially in the corrosion resistance to the molten steel and the influence on non-metallic inclusion. The results show that the basic coating powder is superior to the acidic coating powder in corrosion resistance. It is appeared that the basic coating powder lining has less influence on the formation of non-metallic inclusions. These results will be promissing to reduce the coating thickness in tundish lining operation.

Ionic Liquids Containing 1,1-Dicyano-1-acetylmethanide Anion as Potential Electrolytes

  • Various types of room temperature ionic liquids (RTILs) containing 1,1-dicyano-1-acetylmethanide anion ($[C(CN)_2(COCH_3)]^-$, $[DCNAcC]^-$) were prepared and their physical and electrochemical properties were studied. All of these ILs exhibited high thermal stabilities over $200^{\circ}C$ and relatively high ionic conductivities up to 29.4 $mS\;cm^{-1}$ at $80^{\circ}C$. Although the ionic conductivity of IL containing bis(trifluoromethanesulfonyl)-imide ($[Tf_2N]^-$) anion is higher than that of ILs bearing $[DCNAcC]^-$ anion, the specific capacitance of ILs bearing $[DCNAcC]^-$ anion are higher than that of IL containing $[Tf_2N]^-$ anion and showed high temperature dependence. Such favorable electrochemical properties of these ILs are likely to be attributed to the efficient dissociation of cation and anion at higher temperature and enhanced electrosorption of $[DCNAcC]^-$ anion at the electrode.
