This paper presents an MPEG-4 video codec, called MoVa, for video coding applications that adopts 3G-324M. We designed MoVa to be optimal by embedding a cost-effective ARM7TDMI core and partitioning it into hardwired blocks and firmware blocks to provide a reasonable tradeoff between computational requirements, power consumption, and programmability. Typical hardwired blocks are motion estimation and motion compensation, discrete cosine transform and quantization, and variable length coding and decoding, while intra refresh, rate control, error resilience, error concealment, etc. are implemented by software. MoVa has a pipeline structure and its operation is performed in four stages at encoding and in three stages at decoding. It meets the requirements of MPEG-4 SP@L2 and can perform either 30 frames/s (fps) of QCIF or SQCIF, or 7.5 fps (in codec mode) to 15 fps (in encode/decode mode) of CIF at a maximum clock rate of 27 MHz for 128 kbps or 144 kbps. MoVa can be applied to many video systems requiring a high bit rate and various video formats, such as videophone, videoconferencing, surveillance, news, and entertainment.
This paper presents a dAC calibration technique for high resolution and monolithic operation. The calibration technique consists of basic source, current memory cell (C.M) and current substrator. Current memory supplies the error current to basic source. Current substrator extracts the error current from the main source. It is simple and needs no special calibration period. The proposed current cell has high calibration performance and guarantees 100MHz operation.
In this paper, Modular cell approach was applied to custom IC design or RS decoder. For the design of RS decoder by modular cells, 3 basic cells and one extra circuit are designed, these are, SYN cell for syndrome calculation, AL cell for error locator polynomial calculation, and REM cell for remaining error transform calculation. RS decoder design by these basic cells is very simple and regular, and naturally suitable for VLSI RS decoder design.
Measurement error is one of main source of error in survey. It is generally defined as the difference between an observed value and an underlying true value. An observed value with error may be expressed as a function of the true value plus error term. In some cases, the measurement error variance may be also a function of the unknown true value. The error variance function can be rewritten as a function of true value multiplied by a scale factor. This research explore methods for estimation of the measurement error variance based on the data from complex sampling design. We consider the case in which the variance of mesurement error is a linear function of unknown true value, and the error variance scale factor is small. We applied our results to the U.S. Third National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (the U.S. NHANES III) data for empirical analyses, which has replicate measurements for relatively small subset of initial respondents's group.
This study was performed to investigate some characteristics on human error proneness in the computerized work environment. Our concerning theme was on human error likelihood according to personal temperament. Two experiments were performed. The first experiment was to study the effect of field- independence/dependence on error likelihood. The second experiment was on error proneness. These experiments were performed in information search task. which was most frequent task in computerized work environment such as the control room of nuclear power plant. Ten subjects were participated in this study. Analyzed results are as follows. Field-independence/dependence had a significant effect in both information search time and error frequency. Error proneness had a significant effect in both factors, too. And, a positive correlation was found between error frequency and information search time. These results will be utilized as a basis to study operator's error proneness in the computerized control room of nuclear power plant. later on.
We analyze the error in the $p$ version of the of the finite element method when the effect of the quadrature error is taken into account. We investigate source of quadrature error due to the presence of mapped elements. We present theoretical and computational examples regarding the sharpness of our results.
For compensating the error motion of hydrostatic guideways, we introduce a way that the clearance of table is actively controlled corresponding to the amount of error with the variable capillary. The structure and the theoretical design method of active controlled capillary using piezo actuator, named ACC, are proposed in this paper. Basic characteristics such as the maximum controllable range, micro step response and available dynamic bandwidth are tested for confirmation of structural suitability of ACC, and these characteristics are also tested on the table mounted with ACC for verifying the availability. The experimental result showed that by the use of ACC, the error motion within 2.7 .mu. m of a hydrostatic guideway can be compensated with the resolution of 2.7nm, 1/100 contollable range, and the frequency bandwidth of 5.5 Hz. From these results, it is confirmed that the ACC is very effective to improve the motion accuracy of high or ultra precision hydrostatic guideways.
In conventional probability-based human reliability analysis, the basic human error rates are modified by experts to consider the influences of many factors that affect human reliability. However, these influences are not easily represented quantitatively, because the relation between human reliability and each of these factors in not clear. In this paper, the relation is expressed quantitatively. Furthermore, human reliability is represented by error possibilities proposed by Onisawa, which is a fuzzy set on the interval [0,1]. Fuzzy reasoning is used in this method in order to obtain error possibilities. And, it is supposed that many basic events affected by the above factors are connected to the top event through Fault Tree structure, and an estimate of the top event expressed by a member- ship function is obtained by using the fuzzy measure and fuzzy integral. Finally, a numerical example of human reliability analysis obtained by this method is given.
One of the major limitations of productivity and quality in metal cutting is the machining accuracy of machine tools. The machining accuracy is affected by geometric and thermal errors of the machine tools. In this study, the compensation device is manufactured in order to compensate thermal error of machine tools under the real-time. This paper models of the thermal errors for error analysis and develops on-the-machine measurement system by which the volumetric error are measured and compensated. The thermal error is modeled by means of angularity errors of a column and thermal drift error of the spindle unit which are measured by the touch probe unit with a star type styluses, a designed spherical ball artifact, and five gap sensors. In order to compensate thermal characteristics under several operating conditions, experiments performed with five gap sensors and manufactured compensation device on the horizontal machining center.
The Study lay Emphasised on to Investigate Human Related Causes of a Pointed End Equipment Accident and the Basic data for Analyzing Human-Error Prevention Program. Peter Son's Model of Human-Error Accident Causation and Cooper's Model of Safety Culture Were Applied to Analyze the Severe Cause of a Pointed End Equipment for Last 5 Years. Through to Analyzing the Cause of Equipment Accident of Human-Error, Expert's Opinion and Experience Theory Method was Reflected. The Analyses Showed What the Immature and Inexperient Error Were Major Causes of a Pointed and Equipment Accident. The Cause of Human-Error was Found with Respect to Human, Tasks, Acknowledge, Organization.
