  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the importance of mental capacity and to see whether it can be a barometer to predict childrne's cognitive development. The instruments used were Pictoral Test of Intelligence to select homogeneous samples, Cucui Scale for their M-power and Conservation Test. The results showed that M-power develops as age increases, and it can be a strong variable to predict their cognitive development. It has been demonstrated that capacity increases developmentally but whether this reflects changes in capacity perse, or in the efficient use of that capacity is a debatable issue. More study needs to be repeated for this matter.

  • Human activity recognition(HAR) using smartphones is a hot research topic in computational intelligence. Smartphones are equipped with a variety of sensors. Fusing the data of these sensors could enable applications to recognize a large number of activities. However, these devices have fewer resources because of the limited number of sensors available, and feature selection and classification methods are required to achieve optimal performance and efficient feature extraction. This paper proposes a smartphone-based HAR scheme according to these requirements. The proposed method in this paper extracts time-domain features from acceleration sensors, gyro sensors, and barometer sensors, and recognizes activities with high accuracy by applying KDA and SVM. This approach selects the most relevant feature of each sensor for each activity. Our comparison results shows that the proposed system outperforms previous smartphone-based HAR systems.

  • Smartphone-based localization has been widely studied in many different scenarios. But as far as we know, few work has addressed the problem of localization in underground public transportation systems, where GPS signal and wireless infrastructure are not always available. Knowing the location of a train is necessary to develop a useful service for subway passengers. And so, estimation of motion state and stop station by using sensors on a smartphone is being studied for subway passengers. This paper proposes a localization method that uses a barometer and a magnetic sensor on a smartphone. The method proposed in this paper first estimates whether the train runs or stops according to the change in air pressure and the strength of the magnetic field. The altitude value and the magnetic field value are then used to estimate the exact stop station of the train. We evaluated the proposed method using data from the Seoul's subway line 5. Compared with previous methods, the proposed method achieves higher accuracy.

  • Precision guidance filter design for a tactical missile with a strapdown seeker aided by low-cost strapdown sensors has been addressed in this paper. The low-cost strapdown sensors consist of an IMU with 3-axis accelerometers and gyroscopes, 3-axis magnetometers, and a barometer. Missile's position, velocity, attitude, and bias error of the barometer are considered as state variables. Since the state and measurement equations are highly nonlinear, we adopt UKF(Unscented Kalman Filter). The proposed guidance filter has a function of a navigation filter if target position error is not considered. In the case that the target position error is introduced, the proposed filter can effectively estimate the relative states of the missile to the true target. For specific engagement scenarios, we can observe that observability problems occur.

  • This paper presents the development of CAD system for the design of lens of the Turn Signal Lamp that can model and simulate its optical performance. The system consists of three main modules: skin surface modeling module, inner lens modeling module and optical performance simulation module. Skin surface geometry can be modeled by the input of data file and inner lens can be modeled by the input of only four parameter using its geometric characteristics. Also light distribution pattern, the barometer of optical performance is generated by means of finite ray tracing method. The system display modeled geometry, ray tracing and generated light distribution pattern.

  • The purpose of this study is to search for the characteristics of the theory of 'placeness' permeated through contemporary museum architecture in Korea, and hereby to prove the possibility of coping with the modernity in Korean architecture. In this study the theory of 'placeness' which is asserted by Christian Norberg Schultz has been adopted in debating contemporary architecture in Korea. Therefor the theory of 'placeness' has been researched to get an angle of vision on the proof of coping with the modernity in Korean architecture. Seven contemporary museum architecture which have been completed since 1990 have been examined in the view of morphology, topology, and typology which are the major factors of 'placeness'. Throughout this case study, the post-modernity in museum architecture in Korea has been proved, which establishes that the 'placeness' is one of the alternatives for contemporary architecture in Korea.

The performance model is considered gravity and Coriolis force, and a barometer is included to damp down diversity of a perpendicular axis error. Using the simulator, the performance included gyro sensor errors was analyzed in various maneuvering patterns. Also, the performance is virtually presented for the variation of error parameters of gyro and accelerometer under GUI.

  • We present a system for the real-time visual relative navigation of a fixed-wing unmanned aerial vehicle in a GPS-denied environment. An extended Kalman filter is used to construct a vision-aided navigation system by fusing the image processing results with barometer and inertial sensor measurements. Using a mean-shift object tracking algorithm, an onboard vision system provides pixel measurements to the navigation filter. The filter is slightly modified to deal with delayed measurements from the vision system. The image processing algorithm and the navigation filter are verified by flight tests. The results show that the proposed aerial system is able to maintain circling around a target without using GPS data.

  • This paper presents the stability analysis of a biped robot IWR-III. We use a foot-rotation indicator(FRI) concept to reveal the degree of stability. The foot rotation can be a barometer of postural instability, which should be carefully treated in implementing a dynamically stable walk and avoided altogether in performing a statically stable walk. The conventionally mentioned zero moment point(ZMP) criterion may not be sufficient to express the stability of a biped robot. ZMP equation needs an assumption that the supporting foot is fixed firmly to the ground during the walking. Therefore, applying the FRI concept is more desirable when a biped robot is falling down ...
