  • This research introduces some preliminary results of bank filtering intake method adopted in Dalseo area, Nakdong River. This intake method has been planned to supply water resources of 41,000 ㎥/day to Goryeong-Gun and Seongju-Gun in 2016. It is believed that the bank filtering intake method can afford to supply 41,000 ㎥/day amount of water resources and that the raw water quality using the method has more advantages in water treatment than direct surface water intake. Even though the safety yield about individual vertical well is roughly estimated to about 2,000 ㎥/day, it is desirable to decrease the safety yield to about 1,000 ㎥/day in the consideration of long term and simultaneous well pumpings and other unknown factors. Ongoing study will give basic data and new techniques to solve the problems appearing in application of bank filtering method as well.

  • 2-D complex Gabor filtering has found numerous applications in the fields of computer vision and image processing. Especially, in some applications, it is often needed to compute 2-D complex Gabor filter bank consisting of the 2-D complex Gabor filtering outputs at multiple orientations and frequencies. Although several approaches for fast 2-D complex Gabor filtering have been proposed, they primarily focus on reducing the runtime of performing the 2-D complex Gabor filtering once at specific orientation and frequency. To obtain the 2-D complex Gabor filter bank output, existing methods are repeatedly applied with respect to multiple orientations and frequencies. In this paper, we propose a novel approach that efficiently computes the 2-D complex Gabor filter bank by reducing the computational redundancy that arises when performing the Gabor filtering at multiple orientations and frequencies. The proposed method first decomposes the Gabor basis kernels to allow a fast convolution with the Gaussian kernel in a separable manner. This enables reducing the runtime of the 2-D complex Gabor filter bank by reusing intermediate results of the 2-D complex Gabor filtering computed at a specific orientation. Experimental results demonstrate that our method runs faster than state-of-the-arts methods for fast 2-D complex Gabor filtering, while maintaining similar filtering quality.

  • We propose a novel feature processing technique which can provide a cepstral liftering effect in the log-spectral domain. Cepstral liftering aims at the equalization of variance of cepstral coefficients for the distance-based speech recognizer, and as a result, provides the robustness for additive noise and speaker variability. However, in the popular hidden Markov model based framework, cepstral liftering has no effect in recognition performance. We derive a filtering method in log-spectral domain corresponding to the cepstral liftering. The proposed method performs a high-pass filtering based on the decorrelation of filter-bank energies. We show that in noisy speech recognition, the proposed method reduces the error rate by 52.7% to conventional feature.

  • The end-milling force behaviour is very complex and it is related to a de-noising phenomenon, so it is very difficult to detect and diagnose this static cutting force phenomenon. This paper presents a new method of filtering of end-milling force in end-milling operation using filter bank technique, based on the wavelet transform. In this paper by comparing the history of end-milling force using wavelet filtering the fundamental end-milling property of the wavelet transform is well reviewed and analyzed. This result of wavelet transform using filter bank shows the possible static prediction of end-milling force with severe dynamic properties such as chatter in end-milling operation.

  • In power quality monitoring, it is very important to detect disturbances (sag, swell, transient, and interruption) accurately. In this paper, a detection method for power quality disturbances by combining the filter bank system and adaptive filter is proposed. To decompose power signal, binary tree structured filter bank system is designed. In the filter bank system, the fundamental filter bank(QMF bank) is used as a module in each decomposing level. An adaptive filter is used to improve the detection accuracy of disturbances for each subband signal. In the adaptive filter, the measure of estimated error change is used to detect singular points of power quality disturbances. Computer simulations were performed on synthetic signals which have disturbances to assess the performance of the proposed method.

  • In a real environment, sound recordings are commonly distorted by channel and background noise, and the performance of audio identification is mainly degraded by them. Recently, Philips introduced a robust and efficient audio fingerprinting scheme applying a differential (high-pass filtering) to the frequency-time sequence of the perceptual filter-bank energies. In practice, however, the robustness of the audio fingerprinting scheme is still important in a real environment. In this letter, we introduce alternatives to the frequency-temporal filtering combination for an extension method of Philips' audio fingerprinting scheme to achieve robustness to channel and background noise under the conditions of a real situation. Our experimental results show that the proposed filtering combination improves noise robustness in audio identification.

  • The purpose of this study is to clarify the reasons of pipe corrosion and well clogging which are taken place in long term bank filtering and to establish countermeasure of them in the alluvium of Goryeong Gun, Dasan Myeon, Nakdong River It is believed that the scale inside the pipe is not caused by only iron hydroxides but compounds consisted with some carbonate and silicate minerals. For the removal of the scales, it is desirable to loosen the bonds of the scale itself by dissolving the carbonate and silicate minerals after detailed study of the scale compounds.

  • This paper proposes a subband filtering technique to the MUSIC and the ESPRIT algorithm for estimating the magnitude and frequency of the harmonics of power signal. In proposed method, the input power signal is decomposed to the odd harmonics and the even harmonics respectively by the filter bank system. The amplitude and the frequency estimation of the decomposed harmonics are carried out using the MUSIC and the ESPRIT method. Subband filtering can reduce the autocorrelation matrix size of input data, and spectrum leakage between adjacent harmonics. Therefore, this subband technique has advantage in computational cost and estimation accuracy compared to fullband MUSIC and ESPRIT. To demonstrate the performance of the method, computer simulations are performed to the synthesized input signal, and experiment results are compared in subband and fullband cases.

  • Adaptive digital filtering and noise cancelling technique using a tree structured filter bank are presented to reduce a undesirable aliasing due to the decimation of filtered output and improve the performance in terms of mean-square error and the convergence speed using a aliasing canceller. A signal is split into two subband by analysis filter bank and decimated by decimator and reconstructed by interpolation technique and synthesis filter bank. A variable step-size LMS algorithm is used to improve the convergence speed in case of existing the measurement noise in desired input of filter. It is shown by computer simulation that the proposed subband structure in this paper is superior to conventional subband filter structure in terms of mean-square error and convergence speed.

  • This paper focuses on a performance analysis of TRN among various nonlinear filtering methods. In a TRN research, extended Kalman filter(EKF) is a basic estimation algorithm. In this paper, iterated EKF(IEKF), EKF with stochastic linearization(SL), and unscented Kalman filter(UKF) algorithms are introduced to compare navigation performance with original EKF. In addition to introduced sequential filters, bank of Kalman filters method, which is one of the batch method, is also presented. Finally, by simulating an artificial aircraft mission, EKF with SL was chosen as the most consistent filter in the introduced sequential filters. Also, results suggested that the bank of Kalman filters can be alternative for TRN, when a fast convergence of navigation solution is needed.
