  • A wideband dual-polarized antenna coupling cross resonator is proposed for LTE700/GSM850/GSM900 base stations. An additional resonance is introduced to obtain strong coupling between the dipole and resonator. Moreover, the input impedance of the proposed antenna is steadily close to $50{\Omega}$, which results in better impedance matching. Therefore, a wide bandwidth can be achieved with multiresonance. A prototype is fabricated to verify the proposed design. The measured results show that the antenna has a fractional bandwidth of 35.7% from 690 MHz to 990 MHz for ${\mid}S_{11}{\mid}$ < -15 dB. Stable radiation patterns as well as gain are also obtained over the entire operating band. Moreover, a five-element antenna array with an electrical downtilt of $0^{\circ}$to $14^{\circ}$ is developed for modern base station applications. Measurement shows that a wide impedance bandwidth of 34.7% (690 MHz to 980 MHz), stable HPBW (3-dB beamwidth) of $65{\pm}5^{\circ}$, and high gain of $13.8{\pm}0.6dBi$ are achieved with electrical downtilts of $0^{\circ}$, $7^{\circ}$, and $14^{\circ}$.

  • This paper proposes a dynamic-tiling-based bandwidth-efficient (DTBE) virtual reality (VR) streaming scheme. We consider 360-degree VR contents with multiple view points such as the front, back, upper, and bottom sides. At a given time, the focus of a client is always bound to a certain view among multiple view points. By utilizing this perspective, under our proposed scheme, tiles with high encoding rates are selectively assigned to the focused view where multiple view points consist of multiple tiles with different encoding rates. The other tiles with low encoding rates are assigned to the remaining view points. Furthermore, for reducing view adaptation delay, we design a novel rapid view adaptation mechanism that selectively delivers an I-frame during view point updates by using frame indexing. We implement the proposed scheme on a commercial VR test bed where we adopt the MPEG media transport (MMT) standard with high-efficiency video coding (HEVC) tile modes. The measurement-based experiments show that the proposed scheme achieves an average data usage reduction of almost 65.2% as well as average view adaptation delay reduction of almost 57.7%.

  • The OFDM system have been widely studied for the purpose of increasing data rate with more reliable communications in underwater channel environments. And it is possible only when the sub-carrier's bandwidth is smaller than the coherence bandwidth of channel in the underwater OFDM communication system. However, the size of the FFT for the OFDM system will be increased because the coherence bandwidth is as small as several tens of Hz in real underwater channel environments. Also, It is necessary to add a CP having a length longer than the rms delay spread of a channel. So the complexity of the system is increased and the data efficiency is reduced. Therefore, in this paper, we have studied the increase of the coherence bandwidth by adapting the beamforming technologies. To do this, we have collected data from real underwater channel environments and analyzed the coherence bandwidth when adapting the beamforming technologies. Analyzing the experimental data show that the coherence bandwidth by the beamforming technologies in underwater channel environments was greatly increased compared to that of a single sensor.

  • In the wireless network, TCP performs poorly because it was originally designed for wired networks and does not take into consideration wireless characteristics such as mobility, high-loss probability, and hidden-terminal problems. In particular, in the wireless multi-hop networks, a large congestion window increases the probability of contention and packet losses, and TCP performance is degraded severely as a result. So, it is necessary to limit the TCP congestion window size in order keep the probability of contention loss in the system to a minimum. In this paper, we propose a new scheme for determining the maximum congestion window size based on the measured bandwidth and Round-Trip-Time (RTT). Using ns-2 simulation, we show that the proposed scheme reduces the probability of packet contention and improves TCP performance.

  • We propose a printed circuit board (PCB)-embedded antenna for millimeter-wave chip-to-chip communication. The antenna is 0.18 mm in height which is 1/20 wavelength at 80 GHz. In order to realize such a low profile, a zeroth-order resonator antenna with a periodic array of four unit cells is employed, and its geometry is optimized to cover an 8-GHz bandwidth from 76 to 84 GHz. With this;the antenna is capable of radiating in a direction parallel to the board length despite the short distance between the ground and the radiator. Simulation and measurement results show that the optimized design has low reflection coefficients and consistent radiation patterns throughout the target bandwidth.

  • A common network such as internet does not provide a guaranteed network bandwidth to accommodate multimedia service in a reliable fashion. In this paper, we propose a new rate control mechanism for multimedia service on the internet which is adaptive to the dynamic QoS in real-time. Also we adapt an QoS monitoring module and real-time transmission control module to adapt dynamic network bandwidth. To do this, we used layer attribution of media data and also considered loss rate and buffer threshold in receiver side for measurement of dynamic QoS.

  • In this study, a 28-GHz U-slot array antenna for a wideband communication system is proposed. The U-slot patch antenna structure consists of a patch, two U-shaped slot, and a ground plane. With the additional U-slot, the proposed antenna has around 10% of bandwidth at -10 dB. To increase gain, the U-slot antenna is arrayed to $2{\times}2$. The proposed antenna is designed and fabricated. The $2{\times}2$ array antenna volume is $41.3mm{\times}46mm{\times}0.508mm$. The proposed antenna was measured and compared with the simulation results to prove the reliability of the design. The bandwidth and gain of the measurement results are 3.35 GHz and 13 dBi, respectively and the operating frequency is around 28 GHz.

  • A new type of monopole antenna whit broadband characteristics is presented in this article. To reduce the size of the antenna, its upper part is folded. By separating the current flow, the resonance in the shorter part is in the higher band; and the longer part resonates in the lower band. This gives the broadband characteristics of the antenna. Slots on the corner using an oblique line improve the impedance matching and bandwidth. The measurement results show that the bandwidth operates from 0.848~0.992 GHz and 1.744~2.528 GHz, and the radiation patterns are in an omni-directional shape.

  • For applicating to 10-Gbit/s optical transimission systems, we have designed and fabricated a laser driver IC with extremely-high-operation-frequencies using AlGaAs/GaAs heterojunction bipolar transistors (HBTs), and have investigated its performances. Circuits design andsimulation were performed using SPICE and LIBRA. A discrete AlGaAs/GaAs HBT with the emitter area of 1.5*10 .mu.m$^{2}$, used for the circuit fabrication, exhibited cutoff frequency of 63 GHz andmaximum osciallation frquency of 50 GHZ. After fabrication of MMICs, we observed the very wide bandwidth of DC~18 GHz and the S$_{21}$ gain of 17 dB for a laser driver IC from the on-wafer measurement. Metal-packaged laser driver IC showed the excellent eye opening, the modulation currents of 32 mA, the rise/fall time of 40 ps, measured at the data rates of 10-Gbit/s.

  • A case study of an active transmitting patch antenna revealed a characteristic loop locus of DC power versus RF output power as drive frequency was varied, with an operational bandwidth substantially smaller than the impedance bandwidth of the radiator. An approximate simulation technique, based on separation of the output capacitance of the power transistor, yielded easily visualized plots of power dependence on internal load impedance, and a simple interpretation of the experimental results in terms of a near-resonance condition between the output capacitance and output packaging inductance.
