  • Gyeonggi metamorphic complex in the Gwangju area include banded biotite gneiss and quartzofeldspathic gneiss. Detailed structural analysis suggests that structural elements in the study area were formed by at least five phase of deformations. Penetrative compositional foliations(S1) formed in the banded gneiss during the first metamorphism and deformation (D1). After intrusion of plutonic rocks, the second deformation (D2) produced S2 foliations in the banded gneiss and quartzofeldspathic gneiss during the second metamorphism. D3 structures are represented by isoclinal folds (F3) whose axial surfaces are parallel to S3 foliations. The N-S oriented shortening (D4) was accommodated by closed upright F4 fold with about 100m of axial surface separation. F4 fold is refolded by regional F5 folding resulting in different orientation and fold style of F4 fold according to the position of F5 fold. The F4 fold with tight interlimb angle is subparallel to the axial surface (north-south) of F5 fold in the core of the F5 fold. In contrast the F4 fold trends northeast in the western limb and northwest in the eastern limb of F5 fold. The interlimb angle is larger in the limbs than that in the core of F5 fold. The trace of foliations is constrained by mainly F4 and F5 folds. Joint fanning around fold is developed in the limbs of F5 fold and bc joints are dominant in the hinge area of F5 fold. A strike-slip fault had developed in tile central part of the study area after F5 folding. The orientation of joint and foliation is rotated anticlockwise about $15^{\circ}$ by the landslide occurred during the Quaternary.

  • This paper focuses on the simplified receiver design for multi-user circular block oversampled filter bank (CB-OSFB) uplink systems. Through application of discrete Fourier transform (DFT), the special banded structure and circular properties of the modulation matrix in the frequency domain of each user are derived. By exploiting the newly derived properties, a simplified zero-forcing (ZF) receiver is proposed for multi-user CB-OSFB uplink systems in the multipath channels. In the proposed receiver, the matrix inversion operation of the large dimension multi-user equivalent channel matrix is transformed into DFTs and smaller size matrix inversion operations. Simulation is given to show that the proposed ZF receiver can dramatically reduce the computational complexity while with almost the same symbol error rate as that of the traditional ZF receiver.

  • A large amount of papers about the cubic-to-tetragonal phase transition the ferroelectric domain structures of the BaTiO3 were already reported but there exist still some needs to observe the domain behaviors directly. In this study the domain structures of the tinned plates prepared from ta single crystal grown by the TSSG technique were observed using a polarizing microscope TE and X-ray topography. The spatial relation be-tween the orientation states of domains was investigated and the effects of external stresses and electric fields on the behaviors of ferroelectric and ferroelastic domains were studied. All the 90$^{\circ}$walls cut off in the crystal are the wedge shaped lamellar domains and all the straight boundaries in the observed domain patte군 can be interpreted as the head-to-tail 90$^{\circ}$walls. The irregular overlapped boundaries commonly observed by using a polarizing microscope and X-ray topography are complex combinations of well-known 90$^{\circ}$walls and are domain walls were predominant and were stabilized after surface polishing. In the paraelectric phase region the domain walls vanished but the residual surface strain patterns could be seen at the same positions of the stabilized 90$^{\circ}$a-a walls in the tetragonal phase region, These stabilized walls resulted from the surface strain had a memory effect in domain formation during the repeated phase transitions and could notr be affected by an external electtric field.

  • Low cycle fatigue test was performed by companion specimens method to compare the properties of cyclic strain for the weldments of controlled rolling steel CR60 and welding structural steel SM58Q. And the result does not showed any difference of low cycle fatigue life between weldments. Especially, the values of coefficient of cyclic plastic strain $C_{p}$ and exponent of cyclic plastic strain $K_{p}$ of heat affected zones of CR60 steel and SM58Q steel were same. And $C_{p}$ and $K_{p}$ of CR60 steel were equal to the values of weld it means a good combination between the base metal, the heat affected zone and the weld of CR60 steel.eel.eel.

  • For establishing the plan of scientific conservation on the Kyongch′onsa and site of Won-gaksa 10 floors pagodas, the investigation on the rocks consisting these pagodas has been made on the rock phase and weathering characteristics. The Kyongch′onsa pagoda consists of fine grained pale graylimestone containing abundant fossils of shell and fragments of organisms. The site of Won-gaksa pagoda is composed of marble of pale gray, white and/or light brown color, which is intercalated with thin mica schist. The marble, the recrystallized limestone, consists mainly of recrystallized calcite accompanied with minor amount of muscovite. Especially carbonate rocks are somewhat different in chemical weathering from such granitic rocks. The field survey and laboratory experiment using polarizing microscope had been done during 30 days from Feb, 13 to March, 31, 1995. The rocks equivalent to that of the site of Kyongch′onsa were identified from the Myobong limestone formation and taken samples around the road from P′yongch′ang to Mitan, P′yongch′ang-gun. The rocks similar to that of the site of Won-gaksa pagoda were distributed around Pan-un-ri, Chunch′on-myon, Yong-wol-gun. The rocks of the Silluksa pagoda consisting of white recrystallized limestone with banded structure are similar to the marble of the Hyangsan-riformation distributed around Suanbo, Ch′ungch′ongbuk-do.

  • The manganese nodule from the Blake Plateau consists mainly of microcrystalline to cryptocrystalline todorokite, with minor quartz, clays, carbonates and phillipsite. The nodule in cross section shows concentric layers, core structure, unconformity and fissure-filling structure megascopically, and colloform, fragmental and diagenetic textures microscopically. A new classification of colloform textures which are applicable to any nodule of any source shows that the colloform textures consist of three basic textural units: banded, cuspate and globular. They occur independently or in combination with each other to form various types of textures. The presence of three predominant textural types suggests that there are three different major modes of nodule growth which are controlled by physical and chemical environments.

  • Floor response spectra for dynamic response of subsystem such as equipment, or piping in nuclear power plants are usually generated without considering dynamic interaction between main structure and subsystem. This study describes the analytic method in which equipment response spectra can be obtained through dynamic analysis considering equipment-structure Interaction(ESI). In this method, dynamic response of the equipment by this method is based on a dynamic substructure method in which the equipment-structure system is partitioned into the single-degree-ol-freedom system(SDOF) representing the equipment and the equipment support impedance representing the dynamic charactenstics of the structure ai the equipment support. A family of equipment response spectra is developed by applying this method to calculate the maximum responses of a family of SDOF equipment systems with wide banded equipment frequency, damping ratio, and mass. The method is validated by comparing the floor response spectrum from this method with the floor response spectrum generated from the rigorous analysis including equipments on the containment building of a prototypical nuclear power plant. in order to Investigate ESI effect in the response of equipment, response values from the method and the conventional approach without considering ESI are compared for the equipment having the mass less than 1% of the total structural mass. Response spectra from the method showed lower spectral amplitudes than those of the conventional floor response spectra around controlling frequencies.

  • We investigated the weathering characteristics of On-Yang gneiss by means of geological survey and Ground Penetrating Radar(GPR). The results of geological survey and boring show the two sets of vertical joint and horizontal joint developed by foliation which is composed of salic and melanic layers. GPR section evidently shows foliation direction and differential weathering due to discontinuity and mineral composition of metamorphic rock. The GPR section for instantaneous phase attribute based on complex trace analysis evidently shows continuity and foliation direction of metamorphic rock. The strong reflection amplitude which is derived from the banded structure of weathered rock can be incorrectly interpreted as a reflection of bedrock. The depth of rock basement should be estimated from the overall exploration result such as boring, seismic method, and electrical resistivity method.

  • Stone-cultural-properties, distributed In the area, have been investigated and studied on the characteristics and the rock phases in the geological and conservational point of view. Stone-Buddhas in the area can be subdivided into Maebul-, General -, and Massive rock-types according to their styles. The rocks used in these stone-cultural-properties are mainly massive, coarse grained biotite granite of the Jurassic age, which is widely distributed around the Reckon-gun area. However, quartz-feldspathic banded gneiss, marble, phyllite and hornblendite are also used. These rocks are mainly distributed in the Yongin-gun area. This suggests that the rocks used. These rocks are strongly influenced by chemical weathering so that the rock surface is very irregular with $2\~3mm$ relief. Biotite granite used shows generally weathered surface of brown color due to chemical weathering of feldspars. Moss are pervasive partly on the surface to show black and/or green colors. The strong weathering may induce secondarily to appear the igneous lineation, onion-structure, and/or minor cracks latent in the rocks. The cultural properties In the area are relatively well conserved except Maebuls and one(Duchangri 3-story) pagoda. However, one stone-buddha may be grinded recently by machine to take off the weathered surface resulting in the loss of its age and the original detailed shape. For conservation, they must be scientifically considered on the shape, kind of the rock phase and characteristics of the weathered phenomena.
