  • This study was carried out to predict blending ratio of cut tobacco(CT), expanded stem(ES), and expanded cut tobacco(ECT) in cigarettes. CT, ES, and ECT samples from A brand were, ground and blended with reference to A blending ratio, and scanned by near infrared spectroscopy(NIRSystem Co., Model 6500). Calibration equations were developed and then determined blending ratio by NIRS. The standard error of calibration(SEC) and performance(SEP) of C factory samples between NIRS and known blending ratio were 0.97%, 1.93% for CT, 0.50%, 1.12 % for ES and 0.68%, 1.10% for ECT, respectively. The SEP of CT, ES and ECT of Band D factory samples determined by C factory calibration equation were more inaccurate than those of C factory samples determined by C factory calibration equations. These results were caused by the difference of CT, ES and ECT spectra followed by each factory. The SEP of CT, ES and ECT of Band D factories determined by calibration equations derived from each factory samples were more accurate than those of determined by calibration equation derived from C factory samples. Each factory SEP of CT, ES and ECT determined by calibration equation derived from all calibration samples(B+C+D factory) was similar to that determined by calibration equation derived from each factory samples. To improve the analytical inaccuracy caused by spectra difference, we need to apply a specific calibration equation for each factory sample. Data in development of specific calibrations between sample and NIRS spectra might supply a method for rapid determination of blending ratio of CT, ES, and ECT.

  • Dual-band microstrip antenna is designed for industrial-scientific-medical(ISM) band of 2.4 GHz and 5.8 GHz using finite-difference time-domain method(FDTD). Cross patch 130 by aperture in the ground plane of microstrip line is proposed as radiation element of antenna which is 2 rectangular patch is overlapped. To design antenna, change of input impedance is examined by length change of aperture and stub. And center frequency and - 10 dB bandwidth are investigated by change of length and width in radiation element. Measured result about reflection loss confirm that agree well with simulation results of FDTD and IE3D. And 3 dB beam width, front to back ratio and maximum gain is presented by measuring radiation pattern of antenna in frequency 2.43 GHz and 5.79 GHz.

  • In this study the correlation between material constants and microwave absorbing characteristics of ferroxplana composite microwave absorber used in X-band was investigated. The real part of permeability(${\mu}_{r}'$) was decreased and the imaginary part of permeability(${\mu}_{r}"$) of ferroxplana composite was increased with increaing ferroxplana loading ratio(F/R). The frequency showing maximum attenuation was shifted to lower frequency with increasing absorber thickness. The absorber 2.6 mm thick showed good band width property and 3.2 mm thick showed good attenuation property. From the apphcation of ferroxplana composite's material constants to the region of material constants which satisfy broad band width, it is found that the absorbing characteristics were estimated quantitatively. Estabhshment of material constants' region which satisfies broad band width can make practical application to design of high performance ferrite microwave absorber.

  • In this paper, a hybrid multiple input multiple output (MIMO) antenna for eight-band mobile handsets is designed and implemented. For the MIMO antenna, two hybrid antennas are laid symmetrically and connected by an interconnection tie, thereby enabling complementary operation. The tie affects both the impedance and radiation characteristics of each antenna. Further, printed circuit board (PCB) embedded type is applied to the antenna design. To verify the results of this study, we designed eight bands-LTE class 12, 13, and 14, CDMA, GSM900, DCS1800, PCS, and WCDMA-and implemented them on a bare board the same size as the real board of a handset. The voltage standing wave ratio (VSWR) is within 3:1 over the entire design band. Antenna isolation is less than -15 dB at the lower band, and -12 dB at the WCDMA band. Envelope correlation coefficient (ECC) of 0.0002-0.05 is obtained for all bands. The average gain and efficiency are measured to range from -4.69 dBi to -2.88 dBi and 33.99% to 51.5% for antenna 1, and -4.74 dBi to -2.97 dBi and 33.45% to 50.49% for antenna 2, respectively.

  • In this paper, silicon nitride thin films with different silane and ammonia gas ratios were deposited and characterized for the antireflection and passivation layer of high efficiency single crystalline silicon solar cells. As the flow rate of the ammonia gas increased, the refractive index decreased and the band gap increased. Consequently, the transmittance increased due to the higher band gap and the decrease of the defect states which existed for the 1.68 and 1.80 eV in the SiNx films. The reduction in the carrier lifetime of the SiNx films deposited by using a higher $NH_3/SiH_4$ flow ratio was caused by the increase of the interface traps and the defect states in/on the interface between the SiNx and the silicon wafer. The silicon and nitrogen rich films are not suitable for generating both higher carrier lifetimes and transmittance. These results indicate that the band gap and the defect states of the SiNx films should be carefully controlled in order to obtain the maximum efficiency for c-Si solar cells.

  • The maximum Doppler frequency, or equivalently, the mobile speed is very useful information to optimize the performance of many wireless communication systems. However, the performance of a maximum Doppler frequency estimator is limited since it requires an estimate of the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of the channel environment. In this paper, the improved method for the maximum Doppler frequency estimations based on the decision feedback Doppler adaptive band-limit (DF-DABL) method is proposed. To reduce the effect of additive noise, the proposed algorithm uses a novel Doppler adaptive band-limit (DABL) technique. The distortion due to the additive noise is drastically removed by the proposed DF-DABL method. Especially, the DF-DABL method does not need any other channel information such as SNR.

  • This paper specifies on optimized design of wide-band subarray using a Genetic Algorithm. First wide-band radiator was designed at triangle lattice of infinite array structure. It is the radiator of notch type that has a wide-band characteristic of ratio 2:1 between maximum and minimum frequency satisfying active reflection coefficient under -10 dB at boresight. And a Genetic Algorithm was applied to optimize subarray partition of antenna consisting of 1,100 array elements. It was confirmed that an optimized subarray antenna has a 4.5-5.5 dB more improved maximum SLL (Side-Lobe Level) than regular subarray antenna.

  • In this paper, we propose the dual band(2.4GHz and 5GHz) antenna for access point of WLAN(Wireless Local Area Network) which has similar radiation patterns for each band. Simulation results by using HFSS(High Frequency Structure Simulator) for the proposed antenna are presented. The electrical characteristics of the proposed antenna are measured with HP 8510C network analyzer and included. And radiation patterns are measured with rectangular anechoic far field antenna chamber. Measured results show that $S_{11}$ is less than - 14dB and VSWR(Voltage Standing Wave Ratio) is less than 1.5 for all frequency bands of interest. The measured maximum gain for elevation pattern at 2.40GHz is about 2.46dBi at $theta=-78^{\circ}$ and maximum gain for 5.825GHz is about 2.70dBi at $theta=-80^{\circ}.$ And the implemented antenna has good radiation pattern characteristic, therefore, we expect that the implemented dual band antenna is applicable for access point of WLAN.

  • A triple-band transceiver module for 2.3/2.5/3.5 GHz mobile WiMAX, IEEE 802.16e, applications is introduced. The suggested transceiver module consists of RFIC, reconfigurable/multi-resonance MIMO antenna, embedded PCB, mobile WiMAX base band, memory and channel selection front-end module. The RFIC is fabricated in $0.13{\mu}m$ RF CMOS process and has 3.5 dB noise figure(NF) of receiver and 1 dBm maximum power of transmitter with 68-pin QFN package, $8{\times}8\;mm^2$ area. The area reduction of transceiver module is achieved by using embedded PCB which decreases area by 9% of the area of transceiver module with normal PCB. The developed triple-band mobile WiMAX transceiver module is tested by performing radio conformance test(RCT) and measuring carrier to interference plus noise ratio (CINR) and received signal strength indication (RSSI) in each 2.3/2.5/3.5 GHz frequency.

  • We implemented DPU(Double-Pass Gain-Clamped) L-band EDFA for highly efficient amplification. A lasing signal generated within the linear cavity, can minimize the fluctuation of surviving channels when several WDM(Wavelength Division Multiplexing) channels are added or dropped. The new method measuring the characteristics of transient response of surviving channels quantitatively is suggested. It is to measure the ratio of lasing output before add or drop to that after add or drop. We investigated dynamic characteristics by using this method according to lasing wavelengths and propagation directions within the cavity. Experimental measurements show that the short lasing wavelength and backward propagation direction is the best condition for small fluctuation of surviving channels.
