Pyroligneous liquor as a byproduct from charcoal production of bamboo sprout produced damyang-gun has the broad benefits such as improvement of soil quality, plant growth control and is mainly used for the treatment of atopic dermatitis, fungi and many other skin diseases. In this study, flavor compounds of pyroligneous liquor from bamboo sprout produced in Damyang-gun were analyzed and compared using three different methods including direct analysis (DA), headspace solid phase microextraction (HS-SPME) and stir bar sorptive extraction (SBSE). Simultaneously, the analytical conditions of GC-MS for the determination of volatile compounds were optimized. Based on volatile organic compounds detected by GC-MS, SBSE and SPME methods showed higher sensitivity than direct analysis. Major compounds of pyroligneous liquor were cresol, guaiacol, p-ethyl guaiacol and syringol. These phenolic compounds are reported as the useful chemicals with medicinal activity.
Porous ceramic plates were prepared from Onggi clay and bamboo charcoal powder at 1100 and $1200^{\circ}C$ and their porous properties and water absorption, and the cooling effect of porous plates, were investigated to produce eco-friendly porous ceramics for a self-cooling system that relies on the evaporation of absorbed water. Porous properties were dependent on the particle size of charcoal powder pore forming additive and the firing temperature; properties were also found to be dependent on the total pore volume, average pore size and porosity, which had values of $0.103-0.243cm^3/g$, 0.81 - 2.56 mm and 20.9 - 38.2%, respectively, at $1100^{\circ}C$ and $0.04-0.18cm^3/g$, 0.33 - 2.03 mm and 10.8 - 30.9%, respectively, at $1200^{\circ}C$. Cooling temperature difference of flowing air parallel to surface of porous ceramic plates fired with two kinds of charcoal powder at $1100^{\circ}C$ was $3.5-3.6^{\circ}C$ at $26^{\circ}C$ and 60% of relative humidity in a closed box. Cooling temperature difference was dependent on the number of porous plates and the distance between porous plates. A simple and eco-friendly cooling system using porous ceramic plates fired from Onggi clay and charcoal powder was proposed.
Instead of deodorization appararus of fish oil, an adsorbent such as activated charcoal, activated alumina, silicagel, bamboo charcoal was packed in column alone or mixed with preparative ratio, and then test the effective deodorization with bleaching. In the progress of degumming, the effective method was 18 ml of 2.5% oxalic acid per 100m1 of crude large anchovy oil. The optical condition to deacidified was treating for 30 min at $40^{\circ}C$ with 2.5% sodium hydroride solution. The effective deodorization was added with 3% silicagel under the alone treating adsorbent, and mixed treating was 30% activated alumina and 10% silicagel but added to green tea powder was not effective. The major fatty acid of total lipid were 16:0, 20:5n-3, 18:1n-9, 16:1n-7 and 22:6n-3 after treatment of degumming, deacidfication and deodorizing in the large anchovy oil. The oxidative stability of refined anchovy oil added to $\alpha$-tocopherol was validated 20 days under the control, and 30 days in the case of $\alpha$-tocopherol. The 0.01% $\alpha$-tocopherol was more effective than 0.02% $\alpha$-tocopherol.
This study was conducted to investigate the optimal culture method for gametophyte and sporophyte propagation in Coniogramme japonica (Thunb.) Diels, which can be used in various fields. The propagation of prothallus were cultured in 1/4 - 1 Murashige and Skoog medium and Knop medium for 10 weeks. The results indicated that the fresh weight of prothallus was the highest (14.5 g) in 1MS medium. Subsequently, various concentrations of sucrose, activated charcoal and nitrogen source were also added to 1MS medium and cultured for 8 weeks. The results provided that the sucrose concentration was 3% and the fresh weight of prothallus was the highest 10.8 g. According to the concentration in the range of 8.8 ~ 10.8 g, in the case of activated charcoal, the four treatments showed no significant difference. The nitrogen source was added at a concentration of 30, 60 and 120 mM with the ratio of ${NH_4}^+:{NO_3}^-$ being 1 : 2. As a result, the fresh weight of all treatments increased to similar level but there was no significant difference. We investigated sporophyte formation according to soil type and the highest number of sporophytes at 228.0 was formed in soils mixed with horticultural substrate and decomposed granite at 2 : 1 (v : v). On the other hand, sporophyte was not formed in soils containing peatmoss except for the one with peatmoss and decomposed granite at 2 : 1 (v : v).
The Nara Dynasty of Japan lasted from 710 to 784 A.D, which corresponds to the period of the Unified Shilla Kingdom of Korea. The Nara Dynasty enacted the 'Daiho Law and Ordinance' by referring to those of Tang Dynasty of China. Under these legal systems, the Ministries were defined, and foods were used for paying taxes or as currency. The characteristics of the dietary culture in Nara Dynasty were as follows. 1) They obtained food from rice and other grain farming, hunting and fishery. Rice was their main staple and was also used for preparing porridge and brewing wine. 2) Under the influence of Buddhism, meat was prohibited, and milks or dairy products were supplemented for improving malnutritional status. 3) They also used seasonings, spices and sweeteners to enhance the taste and produced medicines by extracting plants, animals and minerals. 4) While chopsticks were made of bamboo, willow, silver, shell, tree or bronze, such utensils as pan earthenware steamer, or charcoal pots were used for preparing meals. 5) Highly qualified utensils, made of porcelains painted with lacguetr, metal, glass, horn and stone, were produced as handcraft art wad developed. 6) Chinese style cousines and cooking methods were popular and various types of preserving techniques like drying or salting were used. Processed cookies were also developed. 7) Although flour was used mainly among noble class people, ordinary people also used it. The royal families ate milk products a lot and even fried foods. 8) One can say that Buddism exerted an influence on Vegetarianism from this era.
This study analyzed the sensibility of eco-friendly fabrics for college students and investigated their attitude on environmental problems, trust reliability onto eco-apparel products, and their purchase state. We tested 6 eco-friendly fabrics (recycled polyester, organic cotton, green tea, charcoal, bamboo, and nettle) through a survey using the Likert scale of 12 polar sensibility words. Most fabrics showed feelings that were smooth, natural, female, and country these were followed by fashion, cheap, functional, sustainable, warm, and vintage. In addition, nettle fabric showed 'rough' feeling, and recycled polyester fabric showed an 'artificial' feeling. Correspondence analysis showed the distance and direction between fabric types and sensibility words with a 2D diagram where the X axis was named with 'Soft <-> Hard' and Y axis was with 'Environmental <-> Manmade' to represent the relationship between fabric types and the sensibility words. According to the results of the multiple regression analysis, the cognition level of the consumer for environmental problems was found to be the most influential variable on the loyalty purchase of eco-friendly products; however, the trust reliability level of consumer onto eco-friendly apparel products was found to be the most influential variable on the conditional purchase of eco-friendly apparel products.

The Bambusae Caulis in Liquamen extracted from bamboo charcoal manufacturing process was filtered and refined. The effects of BCL.D + Silk Worm Powder and BCL.D were observed in terms of blood sugar, creatinine, BUN, GPT and histological examination of pancreatic tissue in db/db mice. The results were as follows : The amount of glucose was slightly decreased (P < 0.05) in the B CL.D+SWP groups compared with the control. The amount of glucose was significantly decreased (P < 0.01) in the BCL.D groups compared with the control. The amount of Creatinine did not show any differences among three groups. The amount of blood urea nitrogen observed significant decrease in the case of BCL.D groups. The amount of GPT did not show any differences among three groups. The intense of insulin-immunoreactivity of β cells showed the strongest in the normal group, and more strong in the BCL.D+SWP group compared with control group.
The objective of this study was to take a closer look at the clothing benefits sought by breast cancer survivors in Korea. A qualitative descriptive study was conducted, using the focus group interview. Data was collected from members of online breast cancer forum. 18 participants were breast cancer survivors who had mastectomy or lumpectomy in their 30s~50s. The data was analyzed using content analysis in order to identify significant themes. The analysis indicated that benefits were sought after functional/comfort, health, feminity, and compensation were found. First, breast cancer survivors considered functional/comfort to be most important benefit so as to keep the body comfortable from the weather. Second, participants put the healthy body as the first priority and chose a well-being lifestyle and were likely to wear clothes made in healthy fabric, such as organic, bamboo or charcoal. Also, they preferred to look active by wearing sport brands or outdoorwear brands. Third, after the surgery, they experienced the sense of femininity loss and the sense of crisis as a woman. Single women and married women in early 30s recognized more seriously, and they tried to recover feminity by wearing clothes with feminine details. Forth, breast cancer survivor consumers tended to shop for the psychological compensation. In summary, consumers with breast cancer surgery, unlike general healthy women, did not sought to be economic, fashion, self-expression benefits, rather they sought health, femininity, and compensation benefits. Therefore, it seems necessary to develop proper products and marketing strategy to meet the said consumer's special needs.
Optimum tapping size and number for sap collection were investigated to minimize damage on tree growth and secure resources for sap by sap collection of Acer mono. The amounts of sap collected by tapping size of 12 mm, 10 mm and 8 mm was 189 L, 140 L and 193 L, respectively. Fusion rates by tapping size were 100% for 8 mm, 89% for 10 mm and 85% for 12 mm, respectively. Amount of sap by size and number of tapping were much at three, two and three tappings to small, middle and large diameter tree in case of 8 mm tapping, and it was large in quantity at two tappings of 12 mm tapping to large diameter tree, respectively. Trees tapped from one to three tappings of 8 mm size for small diameter tree with treatment of DB ointment (mixture of thiophane ointment and 2% bamboo charcoal powder) were completely filled up within 6 months. Diameter growth by number of tapping of 8 mm size was 0.60 mm for one tapping, 1.12 mm for two tappings and 0.47 mm for three tappings to small, middle and large diameter tree, respectively. In case of 12 mm tapping size, diameter growth was fast in the order of large (0.55 mm), middle (0.30 mm) and small (0.23 mm) diameter tree, respectively.
This study was attempted to investigate indoor air quality of a wooden house. Emission characteristics of carbonyl compounds from indoors whose interiors were finished using ecofriendly materials were detected. From the results of the examination, the carbonyl compounds mostly consisted of formaldehyde, acetaldehyde, and hexaldehyde. Especially, formaldehyde accounted for the largest portion of the compounds at 25.6~30.5%. All the rooms except for R2-2 contained formaldehyde less than criteria of indoor air quality of newly-constructed houses. In addition, all the rooms except for room R1-3, contained acetaldehyde more than the level of $48{\mu}g/m^3$ recommended by Japan's Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare. As a results of the different wall covering, the room R1-1 of Hwangto emitted relatively higher levels of carbonyl compounds than the room R2-1 of phytoncide. In addition, the room R2-2 of the bamboo charcoal panels emitted more carbonyl compounds than the room R1-2. The living room R1-3 of Japanese cypress (Cryptomeria Japonica) emitted lower levels of carbonyl compounds than other rooms.
