Compact Microstrip-Fed Square Loop Antenna for DTV Applications

  • A design method for a compact square loop antenna fed by a microstrip (MS) line for indoor digital television (DTV) applications is proposed. The proposed antenna consists of a square loop, circular sectors, and an MS line. The square loop combined with circular sectors is printed on one side of a substrate, and a $75-{\Omega}$ MS line is printed on the other side. The circular sectors are used as a wideband balun or transition to connect the MS line and the square loop. A prototype of the proposed square loop antenna operating in the DTV band (470-806 MHz) is designed and fabricated on an FR4 substrate. Experimental results show that the proposed antenna has the desired impedance characteristics in the frequency band of 464-1,220 MHz (89.8%) for a voltage standing wave ratio (VSWR) of <2 covering the DTV band, and a broadside gain of 0.8-3.3 dBi in the DTV band.

  • 본 논문은 CPW 발룬을 이용한 평형증폭기 설계에 대하여 기술한다. 종래의 평형증폭기에서 널리 사용되는 윌킨슨 전력분배기, 브랜치 라인 하이브리드 커플러에 이어 발룬도 평형증폭기를 구성하는데 사용될 수 있음을 보인다. 이로부터 발룬을 이용해서도 평형증폭기의 반사손실 대역폭을 향상시킬 수 있음을 보인다. CPW 발룬 및 단일증폭기를 사전에 제작하여 특성을 측정했으며, 이를 이용하여 평형증폭기를 설계하였다. 측정결과 제안한 CPW 평형증폭기의 특성이 단일증폭기에 비하여 대역폭 등에서 매우 유리했으며, 특히 종래의 브랜치 라인 하이브리드를 이용한 발룬보다 동작 대역폭 특성이 더 우수하였다.

  • 공정용 유도 결합 플라즈마(ICP)에서 강자성체인 페라이트를 이용하여 제작한 발룬 변압기(balun transformer)를 사용하여 플라즈마 밀도를 높이는 실험을 수행하였다. 실험에서는 2개의 발룬 변압기를 이중구조 안테나에 설치하여 실제 인가되는 전압이 접지전위 대비+V에서 ${\pm}$V/2로 변환되도록 구성하였다. 20~100 mTorr 압력 범위의 아르곤 기체 50 sccm에 30~70 W범위의 전력을 인가하여 반응용기의 중앙과 벽면에서 부유 탐침법을 적용하여 플라즈마 밀도를 측정 하였다. 같은 압력과 같은 전력에서 발룬 변압기를 사용했을 때와 회로에서 변압기만 제거한 실험을 비교하면 반응용기 중앙에서 플라즈마 밀도가 평균 10% 증가함을 보였다. 이는 안테나에 발란스 된 전압이 인가되면 플라즈마 균일도가 증가하고 부유전위(floating potential) 대비 플라즈마 전위(plasma potential)가 낮아져서 이온에 의한 손실이 줄어들어 전자가 더 많은 에너지를 흡수해서 나타나는 현상이다. 특히 E-mode에서 H-mode로 전환되면 플라즈마 밀도가 크게 증가함을 보였고, 반응용기 벽면에서는 발룬 변압기를 사용했을 때 밀도가 낮다가 H-mode로 전환 시 비교실험 대비 밀도가 크게 증가함을 볼 수 있었다.

A Low Noise and Low Power RF Front-End for 5.8-GHz DSRC Receiver in 0.13 ㎛ CMOS

  • A low noise and low power RF front-end for 5.8 GHz DSRC (Dedicated Short Range Communication) receiver is presented. The RF front-end is composed of a single-to-differential two-stage LNA and a Gilbert down-conversion mixer. In order to remove an external balun and 5.8 GHz LC load tuning circuit, a single-to-differential LNA with capacitive cross coupled pair is proposed. The RF front-end is fabricated in a 0.13 ${\mu}m$ CMOS process and draws 7.3 mA from a 1.2 V supply voltage. It shows a voltage gain of 40 dB and a noise figure (NF) lower than 4.5 dB over the entire DSRC band.

Design of a Biconical Antenna with Cylindrical Loads for EMI Test Site Validation above 1 GHz

  • In this paper, a biconical type antenna is proposed for EMI test site validation above 1 GHz. To achieve broadband and omni-directional radiation patterns required by international standard(CISPR), the proposed antenna consists of general bicones with cylindrical loads and adopts side feeding method to minimize the influence on H-plane pattern due to feeding cable, balun, and connector. The radiation patterns of the fabricated antenna are measured and the results are compared with CISPR criteria and commercial antenna in our interest frequencies. Although the proposed antenna has a few problems in frequency range of 1 GHz to 2 GHz, it has relatively better performance than commercial antenna.

  • 본 논문에서는 지수형으로 테이퍼 된 슬롯 안테나로 광대역 안테나를 설계하였다. 이 안테나는 VSWR${\leq}2$를 기준으로 $6GHz{\sim}18GHz$까지 3:1의 광대역 특성을 나타낸다. 급전부는 마이크로스트립으로 설계되었고 안테나는 싱글 슬롯으로 설계하였기 때문에 급전부와 안테나 사이의 트랜지션은 marchand balun을 이용하여 해결하였다.

  • 본 논문은 전기에너지의 안정적인 공급을 위한 가스절연개폐장치(Gas Insulated Switchgear; GIS)의 안정성과 신뢰성을 확립하기 위해 GIS 내부 결함에 의한 사고의 발생을 미리 진단하는 절연진단용 UHF 대역($0.5\;{\sim}\;1.5$ GHz) 동축형 밸런 부착 안테나를 제안하였다. 동축형 밸런이 부착된 안테나를 GIS에 장착하였을 때 반사계수의 주파수특성을 실험치와 비교 검토하였다.

Design of a Band-Tunable Ultra-Wideband Single-Balanced Doubler (대역 가변형 초광대역 단일 평형 체배기의 설계)

  • In this paper, design and the implementation method of a band-tunable ultra-wideband planar doubler are described Microstrip-to-CPS(balun) transition and Microstrip-to-CPW transition are respectively used for input/output matching circuits for the doubler. The Input balun structure allows to apply diode bias, and the doubler output frequency is tunable by changing the diode bias voltage. With the bias voltage of -0.6 V, the measured operating frequency band of the implemented doubler is $10{\sim}20$ GHz, with the bias voltage of $-0.2{\sim}-0.4$ V, the operating frequency band is $10{\sim}30$ GHz, and with 0 V bias, the operating frequency band is $20{\sim}30$ GHz. The doubler provides conversion loss of less than 15 dB and fundamental frequency suppression of 30 dB.

  • In this paper, the design and implementation of LNA and down-mixer using 90 nm CMOS process are presented for 60 GHz band WPAN receiver. In order to extract characteristics of the transistor used to design each elements under the optimum bias conditions, the S-parameter of the manufactured cascode topology was measured and the effect of the RF pad was removed. Measured results of 3-stages cascode type LNA the gain of 25 dB and noise figure of 7 dB. Balanced type down-mixer with a balun at LO input port shows the conversion gain of 12.5 dB within IF frequency($8.5{\sim}11.5\;GHz$) and input PldB of -7 dBm. The size and power consumption of LNA and down-mixer are $0.8{\times}0.6\;mm^2$, 43 mW and $0.85{\times}0.85\;mm^2$, 1.2 mW, respectively.

  • In this paper, a method for the improvement in the gain and bandwidth of a microstrip-fed broadband planar quasi-Yagi antenna (QYA) is studied. The broadband characteristics of the QYA are achieved from the coplanar strip-fed planar dipole driver and a parasitic director close to the driver. In order to obtain stable gain variation over the required frequency band, a director and a ground reflector are appended to the driver having a nearby parasitic director. The QYA is fed through an integrated balun composed of a microstrip line and a slot line which are terminated in a short circuit. By adjusting the feeding point, a broadband impedance matching is obtained. A QYA with an operating frequency band of 1.75-2.7 GHz and a gain > 4.5 dBi is designed and fabricated on an FR4 substrate with dielectric constant of 4.4 and thickness of 1.6mm. The experimental results show that the fabricated antenna has good performance such as a broad bandwidth of 59.7%(1.55-2.87 GHz), a stable gain between 4.7-6.5 dBi, and a front-to-back ratio > 10 dB. The measured data agree well with the simulation, which validates this study.
