  • This study aims to develop and validate Cultural Competence Scale for prospective social workers. The scale adopted three constructs of cultural competence, which include multicultural awareness, knowledge, and skills. It was made up with concrete episodes based on which respondents rate sets of competing statements relating to multicultural awareness, knowledge, and skills. The score of each item was calculated by subtracting each score of non-cultural awareness, knowledge, and skills from the corresponding score of cultural awareness, knowledge, and skills when cultural statements got higher scores than did non-cultural statements. Each score was summed up to make a total cultural competence score. Through preliminary and main test, 16 episodes and corresponding sets of statements were selected for the final version. The final scale showed satisfactory levels of reliability and validity. Based on the results, implications for the application and the further improvement of this scale were discussed.

  • Purpose: In our country, the aged population accounted for about 13% of the total population in 2018. In addition, it is expected to exceed 20% in 2026, entering an super-aged society. However, the senior welfare housing in Korea currently accommodates only 0.08% of the elderly population, and the increasing amount of the elderly population is very small. Accordingly, this study aims to analyze the causes of supply shortages and to propose directions for revitalizing the supply of welfare housing for the elderly in the private sector. Methods: First, the causes and problems of the poor supply of welfare housing for the elderly were analyzed. Next, the direction was proposed through institutional and case-by-case surveys and expert interviews. Results: It suggested directions such as legal and institutional improvement, inducing the use of REITs, preparing policies to support consumers, allocating a certain percentage of senior welfare housing for the elderly in the reconstruction project, improving awareness of monthly living expenses, and re-discussing sales permits. Implications: Experts said that the direction proposed in this study can have a positive effect on supply activation. However, there were many opinions that re-discussion on permission for sales was necessary due to the excessive impact of the inability to sell. In addition, further research is needed for specific application of the proposed direction.

Subjects of this study were 9 teachers and the data was collected from 3 focus group (3 persons per group) and personal interviews in case of study needs. The need for understanding and knowledge of children with disabilities was high, and they voluntarily and actively participated in the education for the improvement of disability awareness. Since participating in education, teachers have shown changes in perceptions of children with disabilities and changes in the way they practice childcare for disabled children. As regards cognition, teachers have become more interested in and understanding of children with disabilities and have tried to treat them equally with non-disabled children. Regarding the practice of childcare, they practiced the integrated program together with the non-disabled child and the disabled child through cooperative partnership. They also provided the disability awareness education to the non-disabled children and provided the partial integrated childcare program flexibly in one class according to the situation. The results of this study were analyzed and discussed about the general childcare teachers' experience related to the education for improving disability recognition and caring at childcare setting.
