Impact of Outdated CSI on the Performance of Incremental Amplify-and-Forward Opportunistic Relaying

  • This paper investigates the impact of outdated channel state information (CSI) on the performance of the incremental amplify-and-forward (AF) opportunistic relaying (OR) over dual-hop Rayleigh fading channels. According to the definition of distribution function, we obtain the cumulative distribution function (CDF) of the actual combined signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) received at the destination. Based on this CDF, the closed-form expressions of the average spectral efficiency and outage probability are derived for the incremental AF OR under outdated CSI. Numerical results show that in the low region of the average SNR of the direct link, outdated CSI deteriorates the system performance, whereas in the high region, outdated CSI has almost no impact on the system performance.

  • Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) is usually regarded as a spectral efficient multicarrier modulation technique, yet it suffers from a high peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) problem. Among all the existing PAPR reduction techniques in OFDM systems, side information based PAPR reduction techniques such as partial transmit sequence (PTS) and selective mapping (SLM) schemes, have attracted the most attention. However, the transmission of side information results in somewhat spectral loss and this does not significantly improve the bit error rate (BER) performance. Parallel combinatory (PC) OFDM yields higher spectral efficiency (SE) and better BER performance on Gaussian channels,while is a little but not obvious PAPR improvement over the ordinary OFDM system. This investigation aimed to design a 'perfect' OFDM system. We introduce the side information to rotate the subcarrier phases of our novel PC-OFDM system structure, and call this new system the SIPC(Side information based Parallel Combinatory)-OFDM system. The proposed system achieves better PAPR and SE performance. In addition, considering the tradeoff of system parameters, the proposed system also has the properties of a higher BER.

  • OFDM(Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing)은 다중캐리어를 사용해 고속통신을 가능하게 하는 MCM(MultiCarrier Modulation)시스템이며, 전력과 스펙트럼 효율의 단점을 갖는다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 기존의 단점을 보완하고, 효율적인 MCM시스템 설계를 목표로 한다. 제안하는 시스템은 IFFT(Inverse Fast Fourier Transform) 연산 대신에 IDWT(Inverse Discrete Wavelet Transform) 연산을 사용하게 된다. 웨이블릿 변환 기반의 OFDM 시스템 설계를 통해 기존의 OFDM 시스템과 BER(Bit Error Rate), 스펙트럼 효율, PAPR(Peak to Average Power Ratio) 성능 비교를 진행하였다. 그 결과, 기존의 OFDM과 Wavelet-OFDM은 동일한 BER 성능을 나타내었고, Discrete Meyer 웨이블릿을 사용한 Wavelet-OFDM에서는 기존의 OFDM과 동일한 스펙트럼 효율을 갖는다. 또한, 여러 가지 웨이블릿을 기반으로 구성한 Wavelet-OFDM의 모든 시스템은 기존의 OFDM보다 낮은 PAPR 성능을 갖는다.

Performance Analysis of Decode-and-Forward Relaying with Partial Relay Selection for Multihop Transmission over Rayleigh Fading Channels

  • Multihop transmission is a promising technique that helps in achieving broader coverage (excellent network connectivity) and preventing the impairment of wireless channels. This paper proposes a cluster-based multihop wireless network that makes use of the advantages of multihop relaying, i.e., path loss gain, and partial relay selection in each hop, i.e., spatial diversity. In this partial relay selection, the node with the maximum instantaneous channel gain will serve as the sender for the next hop. With the proposed protocol, the transmit power and spectral efficiency can be improved over those in the case of direct transmission and conventional multihop transmission. Moreover, at a high signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), the performance of the system with at least two nodes in each cluster is dependent only on the last hop and not on any of the intermediate hops. For a practically feasible decode-and-forward relay strategy, a compact expression for the probability density function of the end-to-end SNR at the destination is derived. This expression is then used to derive closed-form expressions for the outage probability, average symbol error rate, and average bit error rate for M-ary square quadrature amplitude modulation as well as to determine the spectral efficiency of the system. In addition, the probability of SNR gain over direct transmission is investigated for different environments. The mathematical analysis is verified by various simulation results for demonstrating the accuracy of the theoretical approach.

드론 기반의 무선 통신 시스템에서 주파수 효율 향상을 위한 확률적 핸드오버 기법 (A Probabilistic Handover Scheme for Enhancing Spectral Efficiency in Drone-based Wireless Communication Systems)

  • 본 논문에서는 기지국의 역할을 수행하는 드론을 기반으로 하는 무선 통신 시스템에서 주파수 효율 성능 향상을 위한 확률적 핸드오버 기법을 제안한다. 제안하는 기법은 이동하는 드론 기지국이 지상에 위치한 사용자 단말에게 서비스를 제공하는 무선 네트워크 환경에서 드론 기지국과 사용자 단말 간 거리 및 소규모 페이딩을 고려하여 드론기지국들 간의 핸드오버를 수행한다. 또한, 제안하는 기법은 빈번한 핸드오버 수행 시 발생할 수 있는 시그널링 오버헤드를 완화하기 위해 드론 기지국들 간 핸드오버를 수행할 확률을 고려한다. 드론 기반 무선 통신 시스템에서의 시뮬레이션을 통해 제안하는 핸드오버 기법 및 기존 핸드오버 기법의 주파수 효율 성능 및 핸드오버 확률을 평가한다. 시뮬레이션 결과를 통해 드론 기지국과 사용자 단말 간의 거리만을 고려한 기존의 핸드오버 기법보다 제안하는 핸드오버 기법에서 더 높은 평균 주파수 효율 성능이 나타남을 보인다.

  • Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing or OFDM is a form of multi-carrier modulation technique. High spectral efficiency, robustness to channel fading, immunity to impulse interference, uniform average spectral density, capability of handling very strong echoes and less on linear distortion are among the favorite properties of OFDM. Even though there are many advantages of OFDM, t has two main drawbacks: high Peak to Average Power Ratio (PAPR) and frequency of offset. In this paper, the issue of PAPR in OFDM is discussed. A new algorithm is proposed to reduce PAPR by selecting the input sequences property using a lookup table.

  • 다중 반송파를 사용하는 직접 대역확산 부호분할 다중접속 통신시스템에서 주파수 효율 향상을 위한 전송 전력 및 전송률 적응화 시스템을 제안하고 그 성능을 분석하였다. 본 논문에서는 수신단에서 이상적인 채널상태 정보를 알고 있다는 가정 하에, 주파수 영역에서는 각 사용자의 부채널 중에서 가장 채널상태가 좋은 한 대역을 선택하여 전력을 할당하고 시간 영역에서는 목표 수신 품질을 만족하도록 전송률을 결합 조정하는 것을 제안하였다. 수학적 분석을 통하여 평균 전송 전력이 고정되어 있을 때 제안한 방식의 평균 데이터 전송률을 구하고 전력 혹은 전송률 적응화가 적용된 단일 반송파 부호분할 다중접속 통신시스템과 그 성능을 비교하였다.

Joint Subcarrier and Bit Allocation for Secondary User with Primary Users' Cooperation

  • Interference between primary user (PU) and secondary user (SU) transceivers should be mitigated in order to implement underlay spectrum sharing in cognitive radio networks (CRN). Considering this scenario, an improved joint subcarrier and bit allocation scheme for cognitive user with primary users' cooperation (PU Coop) in CRN is proposed. In this scheme, the optimization problem is formulated to minimize the average interference power level at the PU receiver via PU Coop, which guarantees a higher primary signal to interference plus noise ratio (SINR) while maintaining the secondary user total rate constraint. The joint optimal scheme is separated into subcarrier allocation and bit assignment in each subcarrier via arith-metric geo-metric (AM-GM) inequality with asymptotical optimization solution. Moreover, the joint subcarrier and bit optimization scheme, which is evaluated by the available SU subcarriers and the allocated bits, is analyzed in the proposed PU Coop model. The performance of cognitive spectral efficiency and the average interference power level are investigated. Numerical analysis indicates that the SU's spectral efficiency increases significantly compared with the PU non-cooperation scenario. Moreover, the interference power level decreases dramatically for the proposed scheme compared with the traditional Hughes-Hartogs bit allocation scheme.

1.28-Tb/s (64 × 20 Gb/s) WDM Transmission Over 320 km of Single-Mode Fiber with 0.4- (bit/s) /Hz Spectral Efficiency

  • We demonstrated 1.28-Tb/s (64 ch $\times$ 20 Gb/s) WDM transmission with 50-GHz channel spacing over 320 km of conventional single mode fibers. The spectral efficiency was 0.4 (bit/s)/Hz. Thus, we could accommodate all the sixty-four WDM channels within the C-band of EDFA The average Q-factor was measured to be better than 17.8 dB after transmission over 320 km.

  • 본 논문은 5.12-Tb/s(128 채널 ${\times} 43 Gb/s$) WDM 신호의 200 km 전송실험에 관한 것이다. 본 실험에서는 Medium Dispersion Fiber를 사용하여 0.8-(bits/s)/Hz의 스펙트럼 효율을 구현하였다. 전송 후 측정된 평균 Q-factor값은 15.2 dB이었다.
