  • In direct contact power transmission from primary driver to a secondary follower system, one of the important problems is the vibration transmission. In some applications the reduction of vibration level at the follower as low as possible is utmost important. The magnetically coupled power transmission system is often used for this purpose. In this paper, we report the results of a study on the nonlinear torsional vibration transmission characteristics of the rotating system with face-type magnet coupling. The equation of motion is solved analytically up to 3rd harmonics. The frictional force of the sliding bearing which is used to support the follower shaft is considered as the damping term. Numerical calculations are carried out by the Newton-Raphson method, and the calculated results are compared with the experiment for face-type magnet coupling. The experimental result shows that the reasonant frequency of the magnet coupling is very low and is in good agreement with the theoretical result when the average damping constant per unit area of the sliding bearing is 0.5kg*f*sec/cm$^{3}$.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between glucose control, diabetes self-care and depression in community dwelling older adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Methods: The cross-sectional survey data of 148 older adults at a senior center were analyzed in this study. We collected data on diabetes self-care, depression, and demographics by face-to-face interviews. Blood samples for HbA1C were obtained from the participants. Results: The average duration of diabetes for the participants was $10.6{\pm}9.31$ years. Fifty percent of the participants had HbA1c higher than 7.0% (mean 7.179%). The level of diabetes self-care was related to depression (r=-.225, p<.01). HbA1c was positively related with the duration of diabetes diagnosis (r=.224, p<.01). The only sub-dimension of diabetes self-care that was related to depression was exercise (r=-.307, p<.01). Conclusion: Only half of the community dwelling older adults with type 2 diabetes had an optimal level of diabetes control. Supported by the evidence, the longer the duration of diabetes since the initial diagnosis, the poorer the glucose control was. Identification and intervention for depression in people with diabetes should be considered to improve diabetes self-care, especially to perform more exercise.

  • Multi-axial forging (MAF), a severe plastic deformation technique, is known to be difficult to obtain materials with homogeneous microstructures. Recently, multi-axial diagonal forging (MADF) process has been developed to solve this problem. In this study, in order to compare the microstructural and mechanical homogeneities of the MAFed and MADFed samples, oxygen-free copper (OFC) cubes measuring 25 mm in length were deformed through MAF and MADF processes and the average grain size and hardness were measured at the edge, face, and center regions of the samples. In the MAFed samples, ultrafine grains were formed at the center region, but a considerable amount of coarse grains remain at the face region. Therefore, the MAFed samples showed a high inhomogeneity in regards to grain size and hardness. On the contrary, in the case of the MADFed sample, the grain sizes at the edge, face, and center regions were similar and the hardness in all the regions are almost similar. This indicates that the MADFed sample has a homogeneous microstructure and uniform mechanical properties, which can be attributed to the homogeneous distribution of the effective strain throughout the material. The results of this study suggests that the MADF is a suitable process in the fabrication of high-strength copper materials with a homogeneous and ultrafine grain structure.

  • This study aims to measure the skin rigidity of different facial areas among Koreans and propose guidelines for each area's skin rigidity that can be applied with a facial robot for testing respiratory protective devices. The facial skin rigidity of 40 participants, which included 20 men and 20 women, aged 20 to 50, was analyzed. The rigidity measurement was conducted in 13 facial areas, including six areas in contact with the mask and seven non-contact areas, by referring to the facial measurement guidelines of Size Korea. The facial rigidity was measured using the Durometer RX-1600-OO while in a supine position. The measurement procedure involved contacting the durometer vertically with the reference point, repeating the measurement of the same area five times, and using the average of three values whose variability was between 0.4 and 4.2 Shore OO. The rigidity data analysis used precision analysis, descriptive statistics analysis, and mixed-effect ANOVA. The analysis confirmed the rigidity of the 13 measurement areas, with the highest rigidity of the face being at the nose and forehead points, with values of 51.2 and 50.8, respectively, and the lowest rigidity being at the chin and center of the cheek points, with values of 19.2 and 20.7, respectively. Significant differences between gender groups were observed in four areas: the tip of the nose, the point below the chin, the area below the lower jaw, and the inner concha.

  • The relationale for recording mandibular movement is to accurately adjust an articulator. Techniques to record mandibular movement include radiographic interpretation, extraoral tracing, and intraoral recording materials. This study was performed to compare the concylar guidance inclination and Bennett shift(immediate & progressive side shift)obtained by using an electronic pantograph, pantograph and wax interocclusal records in Korean. Ten adults who have normal occlusion and are free of TMJ dysfunction were selected and clutches were constructed. At first Pantronic survey was performed three times by using an kinematic hinge axis according to manufacturer's direction. Next pantographic survey was performed three times and the articulator was adjusted with each pantographic recording. And then maxillary cast was attached to the articulator with pantographic as a face-bow and the mandibular cast was mounted to the articulator with centric relation record. Three protrusive, three left lateral and three right lateral wax interocclusal records were taken on the subjects and the articulator was adjusted with each interocclusal record. Protrusive condylar inclination, lateral condylar inclination, immediate side shift and progressive side shift obtained by using electronic pantograph, pantograph and wax interocclusal record were compared and analized. The results were as follows; 1. The average left and right protrusive and orbiting condylar inclination($33.7^{\circ},\;37.1^{\circ},\;40.6^{\circ},\;43.5^{\circ}$) record with Pantronic was significantly greater than that recorded with other methods. 2. The average left and right protrusive and orbiting condylar inclination($24.8^{\circ},\;27.0^{\circ},\;31.4^{\circ},\;32.4^{\circ}$)recorded with wax interocclusal record was less than that of other methods. 3. The average left and right immediate side shift(0.57mm,0.44mm)recorded with wax interocclusal record was greater than that of other methods and the average left rigtht immmediate side shift(0.30mm,0.41mm)recorded with Pantronic was significantly greater than that recorded with pantograph(0.11mm,0.20mm). 4. The average variance of wax interocclusal was signivicantly higher than that of other methods.
