  • With increasing demand of energy saving, -many efforts were made to employ aluminium alloys in the automobile industry. Especially, resistance spot welding has been widely used in the steel metal joining process because of its high productively and convenience. In this paper, spot weldability of 7075-T6 aluminium thin sheets for various welding conditions were examined by series of experiments. The tensile shear strength and microstructure of welded specimens was observed, and The optimal welding conditions were found for each welding conditions.

  • Recently, the market has been released a lot of excellent NVH performance cars such as hybrid, electric and luxury cars. Therefore, the consumer is a tendency of many sensitive of the noise inside the vehicle than in the past. In order to match the propensity of such consumers, the automotive industry defines the standard of product related to noise generation of a single product. However, it is difficult to reduce the noise of the product to automobile part suppliers to follow these standards. In this paper, we propose a method for evaluating several necessary in order to find a way to reduce the noise.

Recent Trends in Ferrous PM Materials in Japan

  • Ferrous powder metallurgy in Japan has developed in the last four decades, where every decade is featured by certain breakthroughs in materials. The progress in PM materials is closely related to newly developed powders. Low alloy steel powders for high strength PM components are grouped into three types: Ni and/or Mo containing completely alloyed powders, Ni containing partially alloyed powders, and Cr containing completely alloyed powders. Every type has its special characteristics. The tensile strength of PM materials is improved up to 2 GPa. The hardness is also increased to exceed 500 HV with normal hardening methods, and 700 HV with novel surface treatment techniques. The present maximum of fatigue strength is 550 MPa, and that of impact energy is 100 J. Novel PM materials with improved properties are applied to a variety of automobile and other components: power steering pumps, rocker anns, valve guides and inserts, bearings, torque sensors, etc. The future outlook for the ferrous PM is Quite positive, and the industry is expected to show renewed growth by applying many types of alloy steel powders and new ferrous PM materials.

  • The dissimilar welding between magnesium alloy and steel sheet was required in automobile industry to increase the strength of the dissimilar joints. Laser brazing is one of the good joining processes for Mg- steel dissimilar joint. In this study, AZ31 magnesium alloy and Zn coated steel dissimilar joint was brazed using diode direct laser with Mg600 filler wire and Superior #21 flux. The wetting of Mg filler wire on Zn coating was very good because of the formation of eutectic phase with low melting temperature. The strength of the brazed joint between AZ31 magnesium alloy and Zn coated steel was 131.3N/mm. The fracture occurred at brazement.

  • A V belt pulley is widely used in automotive industry. More than tow pulleys in one automobile are used, such items as crankshaft, water pump, air-con compressor and power steering pump. Although the shape and usage of pulleys are very simple, the design evaluation of a pulley design is difficult because the load conditions and the installation environment are complicated. So, we formulated the design evaluation for the V belt pulley by using CAE system, which enables to develop a design automation system. By using this system, an engineer can evaluate a pulley design easily without any painstaking effort, such as consideration of the complicated loads and CAE activities. Also the system helps to accumulate the design experience of a company, which guides the optimum design based on experience.

An Airbag Design for the Safety of an Occupant using the Orthogonal Array (직교배열표를 이용한 승용차 에어백의 설계)

  • The safety analysis becomes very essential in the crash environment with the growth of automobile industry. Recently, an airbag system is required to protect the occupant. The effects of an airbag can be evaluated exactly from the barrier or sled test which is quite expensive. The airbag system in a passenger car is analyzed with the occupant analysis program. The modeling of the passenger car including an airbag is established and the results are verified by comparisons with real crash tests. However, the solution of an airbag design can not be obtained easily with the conventional method such as an optimization due to the nonlinearity and complexity of the problem. An iterative design algorithm using the orthogonal array is proposed to overcome the difficulties. The design trend of an airbag is recommended to minimize the injury of an occupant with the proposed design algorithm and the results are discussed.

  • 본 논문은 우리날의 자동차산업의 성장과 자동차의 물류체계구조를 공간적인 측면에서 분석한 것이다. 자동차 생산이 이루어진 이후 불과 30여년만에 우리나라는 세계 5위의 자동차생산국으로 부상하였다. 자동차 물류체계구조는 크게 배송체계와 판매체계로 구분된다. 자동차 3사 모두 잠재수요력과 효율적인 배송을 위해 출고장을 입지시키고 전국을 광역화하여 출고장의 공급지역을 관할하고 있다. 한편 판매체계를 보면 지역본부, 지점, 영업소의 계층구조를 구축하여 전국을 대권역, 중지역, 소구역으로 세분하여 판매의 공간구조를 구축하고 있다. 기본적으로는 자동차 잠재수요를 바탕으로 하여 판매거점이 형성되고 있으며, 지역본부에 속해 있는 지점들과 영업소들의 영업활동은 어느 정도 설정된 관할구역내에서 이루어지고 있다. 앞으로 자동차 산업을 발전시키기 위해서는 기술 개발과 해외시장 침투도 중요하지만 유통구조의 합리화를 통한 경쟁력 제고도 매우 중요하다.

  • Engine immobilizer is the automobile security system which disables the engine if the secrete code in the transponder embedded in the key knob is not in agreement with the code in ECU of the car. There are many types of immobilizer systems, however, the encryption transponder type system is the most secure system due to the code verification method using an encryption method. As an example of the industry-university cooperation, the software development in the system is introduced in this paper.

  • Inside keys for the automobiles are the keys whose key teeth are engraved on the inside of the keys. These types of the keys are very effective in prohibiting making the copies of the keys for the criminal purposes and have excellent mechanical strenth comparing with the ordinary types of the keys. In this paper, a development of the control system for the milling machine which is used for cutting the teeth of the inside keys. This machine is controlled by a computer and the cutting is done automatically according to the key codes which are contained in the key code file. This work is presented to show an example of the industry-university cooperation.

  • The development method of a pneumatic solenoid actuator which is used as key components in automobile and aircraft industry is described. For the optimal design of solenoid actuator, we applied the general electromagnetic theory and empirical knowledge. By using the governing equation for the solenoid actuator based on the electromagnetic theory and empirical coefficient, and constrained of optimization technique, we proposed the optimal design technique of low consumption type DC solenoid actuator. The design results of the DC 24V, 0.5W solenoid actuator were presented.
