  • In this paper, measure of change the speech analysis parameter by stimulating ears blood points corresponding to cardiac. To do this, we collected voice of before and after a stimulation corresponding points to ears to select normal heart having 10 subjects. We analyzed changes before and after corresponding points to ear in cardiac to apply Jitter, the second zFormant Frequency Bandwidths related to heart of elements of voice analysis. As a result of us experiment, we were able to analyze correlation of voice with cardiac according to corresponding points to ears decreased values of Jitter, the Second Formant Frequency Bandwidths of 90% of subjects. Finally, the effectiveness of proposed method is demonstrated by several experiments.

  • Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is defined as a chronic inflammatory-mediated disease that causes ulceration and inflammation in the gastrointestinal tract. Among most patients, the course of chronic inflammation repeatedly shows intermittent exacerbations and alternating remissions. However, despite the various therapeutic options to relieve symptoms, such as corticosteroids, TNF-α inhibitors, and antibiotic drugs, there is no known cure for IBD. Nonetheless, previous research has revealed that the autonomic nervous system is involved in the pathophysiology of IBD. In this study, we reviewed clinical trials confirming the therapeutic effect of vagus nerve stimulation (VNS) on IBD in vivo. We searched in vivo and human studies on Pubmed using keywords combined with "vagus nerve stimulation", "VNS", and "inflammatory bowel disease". All studies included in this review reported that direct VNS is effective in relieving symptoms of IBD and has no severe adverse effects. The most frequently stimulated site was the unilateral cervical vagus nerve area, and parameters for stimulation were set as 5-20 Hz. Based on the results, we aim to summarize the evidence for the efficacy of VNS on IBD and suggest the possibility of auricular electroacupuncture treatment as a therapeutic option for IBD.

  • Objectives : The objective of this study was to evaluate the correlation between earlobe crease(ELC) and Hypertension(HTN) in the auricular point diagnosis. Methods : 140 patients who were admitted the Jeongeup City Geriatric Hospital were examined for the presence or absence of ELC and HTN. The one examined the ELC of patients and the other examined the presence of hypertension. The presence of right ELC, left ELC, right or left ELC, and right and left ELC were respectively compared with the presence of HTN. Chi-square test was used to analyze the correlation between ELC and HTN. Results : The presence of right ELC was significantly related to presence of HTN(p=0.001). The sensitivity, specificity, and positive and negative predictability of ELC for diagnosis of HTN were 0.755, 0.524, 0.787, and 0.478. The presence of left ELC was significantly related to presence of HTN(p=0.002). The sensitivity, specificity, and positive and negative predictability of ELC for diagnosis of HTN were 0.745, 0.524, 0.785, and 0.468. The presence of right or left ELC was significantly related to presence of HTN(p<0.001). The sensitivity, specificity, and positive and negative predictability of ELC for diagnosis of HTN were 0.806, 0.500, 0.790, and 0.525. The presence of right and left ELCs was significantly related to presence of HTN (p=0.007). The sensitivity, specificity, and positive and negative predictability of ELC for diagnosis of HTN were 0.694, 0.548, 0.782, and 0.434. Conclusions : These results show that the presence of ELC is significantly associated with hypertension.

  • Objectives: The purpose of this study was to confirm the effects of an auricular acupressure (AA) program for smoking cessation in high school students from 2015 to 2017. Methods: The study investigated 12 high school students who had been smokers. Subjects were treated for three years. Each program was composed of five AA treatments. Average daily smoking and adverse reactions were checked for one week before each procedure. The AA was administered weekly at the endocrine point, lung point, throat point, nasal fossae point, bronchial tube point, and mouth point. Results: The mean number of cigarettes smoked per day after each year of treatment significantly decreased from 5.33±3.58 to 3.54±2.08 in 2015 (p=0.046). However, it increased from 5.75±2.30 to 6.00±3.61 in 2017 (p=0.80). The number of cigarettes smoked before treatment was found to be higher than the number of cigarettes after treatment in the previous year. No significant results were obtained from analysis of the change in the amount of smoking within each year. Conclusion: Social influence, such as the subject's academic stress and peer relationships, may have been a major factor in the change in the amount of smoking. Although the AA did not show a strong effect in smoking cessation, it appears to have value as a supplementary means of stopping smoking.

  • Objectives : This study aimed to review randomized controlled trials of acupuncture performed in South Korea that used sham acupuncture as a control group. Methods : The following databases were searched through the end of September 2011: Koreanstudies information service system (KISS), Korean medical database (KMbase), national discovery OR science leaders (NDSL), oriental medicine advance searching integrated system (OASIS), and research information service system (RISS). The following search terms were used: acupuncture AND (sham or placebo). The reference lists of searched articles and Korea institute of oriental medicine (KIOM) reports(2005~2009) were identified. The following data were extracted: year/first author, disease, number of participants, blinding, intervention, outcome, and result. Where appropriate, we performed meta-analysis. The methodological quality was assessed according to the Jadad scale and 'risk of bias' by Cochrane Handbook procedure. Results : Twenty-nine studies were included in this review. In eighteen studies, penetrating sham controls were used as the control intervention, whereas the remaining eleven studies adopted non-penetrating sham controls such as the Park Sham Device or blunt auricular acupuncture. Nine studies showed statistically significant difference in outcomes. Twelve studies concerning insomnia after stroke, chronic tension-type headache, idiopathic Parkinson's disease, Hwa-Byung, and smoking cessation were included in meta-analysis. A meta-analysis of insomnia after stroke only found significant difference(MD -4.31, 95% Cl -6.19 to -2.42, $p$<0.00001). In general, all of the studies showed low methodological quality(Jadad score: mean 2.1). Risk of bias by Cochrane Handbook procedure varied. Conclusions : The results of this study could not suggest conclusive evidence that acupuncture is more effective than sham acupuncture in several diseases. In the future, more studies with rigorous acupuncture trials using sham controls should be conducted.

  • Objectives: This study was conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of acupuncture in patients with primary menstrual difficulties taking NSAIDs. Methods: 30 women with primary menstrual difficulties with NSAIDs were assigned to treatment groups (n=15) and control groups (n=15). On their first visit, both groups were provided with a menstrual diary and were required to record the intensity of pain and the dosage of painkillers during each menstrual cycle. The treatment group received two acupuncture treatments per cycle during two cycles, and the control group did not receive acupuncture. Pain strength during menstruation was evaluated using Visual Analogue Scale (VAS), and the total number of painkillers taken during menstruation and the average number of painkillers taken during a single dose was measured. Results: The treatment group had significant pain relief compared to the pre-test group and significant differences from the control group. In addition, there was a significant difference between the treatment group and the control group in the frequency of taking painkillers during the menstrual period and the dose in the test group was significantly lower than before treatment. Conclusions: This clinical trial showed that this acupuncture can help alleviate primary menstruation and reduce the use of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs.

  • Objectives : The purpose of this study was to investigate effect of Exercise on inhibition Blood pressure by Auricular-plaster Vaccaria seeds Methods : This study picked 40 peoples from 20 May 2009 to 30 June 2009 and experiment them. Attached Vaccaria seeds to auricular acupuncture of the experiment group. Did not attach them to the control group. Them to exercise using a Bike-Ergometer exercise. I measured their blood pressure before the exercise, 15 minutes after the exercise and 30 minutes after the exercise. I compared the difference between the systolic blood pressure and diastolic blood pressure. The method to choose the subjects was Random allocation. Results : 1. Comparing the systolic blood pressure of the experiment group and the control group, the average systolic blood pressure of the experiment group, who did the Bike-Ergometer exercise putting on Auricular-plaster Vaccaria seeds, was 125.45 mmHg before the exercise, 121.20 mmHg 15 minutes after the exercise and 120.30 mmHg 30 minutes after the exercise. Terefore, the group's systolic blood pressure after the exercise was more controlled than the systolic blood pressure before the exercise. The control group's systolic blood pressure increased compared to the beginning. To measure the change before and after the exercise, I carried out paird-t test. The result was statistically significant. 2. Comparing the diastolic blood pressure of the experiment group and the control group, the average diastolic blood pressure of the experiment group, who did the Bike-Ergometer exercise putting on Auricular-plaster Vaccaria seeds, was 81.45 mmHg before the exercise, 79.65 mmHg 15 minutes after the exercise and 79.05 mmHg 30 minutes after the exercise. As a result of carrying out paird-t test to measure the change of the diastolic blood pressure, the change of the dilating blood pressure was statistically significant. However, the difference of the dilating blood pressure between 15 minutes after the exercise and 30 minutes after the exercise was not statistically significant. Comparing the systolic blood pressure and the diastolic blood pressure of the experiment group and the control group, the blood pressure of the experiment group, who did the Bike-Ergometer exercise putting on Auricular-plaster Vaccaria seeds, decreased compared to the beginning and the blood pressure of the control group, who did not put on Auricular-plaster Vaccaria seeds, increased compared to the beginning. Conclusions : The hypothesis was supported that the increase of the systolic and diastolic blood pressure of the experiment group, putting on Auricular-plaster Vaccaria seeds, was more controlled than that of the control group. In future, it can be medically used by verifying the various effects through repeated studies.

  • Numerous oral and maxillofacial surgeons have found facial space infections after tooth extraction. Most of these infections can be managed easily, but some of them could be life-threatening. Among the facial infections, temporal space infections are rare. Most temporal space infections could be observed as secondary to maxillary third molar infections, maxillary sinusitis, and maxillary sinus fractures. Note, however, that there are insufficient studies on temporal space abscess due to mandibular second molars, especially with acupuncture. A 74-year-old female came to our hospital with severe trismus and facial swelling on the right temporal, buccal, posterior auricular, and cervical regions. The patient had undergone extraction of tooth #47 secondary to dental caries by a general dentist about a month ago. After the dental procedure, the patient had been treated with acupuncture therapy around the right temporomandibular joint area at the oriental medicine clinic. We performed emergency incision and drainage under general anesthesia and started antibiotic treatment with IV ampicillin/sulbactam 3 g every 24 hours and vancomycin 1 g every 24 hours for 5 days. The patient's symptoms subsided and ultimately disappeared. Temporal space abscess after mandibular molar extraction is quite rare. In this case, the spreading mechanism against gravity is considered to be acupuncture therapy.
