In-line Variable Attenuator Based on the Evanescent Wave Coupling Between a Side-polished Single-mode Fiber and an Index Matched Dielectric Plate

  • An in-line variable attenuator has been proposed and demonstrated exploiting a side-polished single-mode (SM) fiber evanescently coupled with an index matched dielectric plate. The attenuation can be controlled by fine mechanical sliding of the index matched dielectric plate. We have achieved 49 ㏈ dynamic range and very low excess loss of 0.2 ㏈ at 1550 nm wavelength. The measured polarization dependent losses (PDL) were 0.1, 0.2, and 0.4 ㏈ at 10, 20, and 30 ㏈ attenuation, respectively. Wavelength sensitivity was measured to be -0.017/nm ㏈ at 20 ㏈ attenuation.

  • PIN 다이오드를 사용한 직렬 마이크로스트립 감쇠기 회로는 PIN 다이오드 등가 회로상의 접합 커패시턴스의 영향으로 인해 감쇠량의 변화에 따라 위상 변화가 많이 발생하게 된다. 본 논문에서는 이러한 감쇠량에 따른 위상 변화량을 최소화하기 위한 CAD 방볍을 제안한다. 설계된 감쇠기 회로는 마이크로스트립 선로의 리액턴스 값이 주파수에 따라 용량성과 유도성으로 변하는 특성을 이용한다. 또, 감쇠기 회로의 위상에 영향을 주는 바이어스 회로의 위상 변화량을 미리 예측하여, 그 양을 최소화하고 광대역상에서 동작하도록 하기 위하여 반달 모양의 방사형 동조 스터브로 종단되어진 $\lambda$/4 전송선을 이용하였다. 제안된 저위상 변화 감쇠기를 측정한 결과, 최대 삽입 손실은 1GHz에서 2.5dB이었으며, PCS 대역 내에서는 1dB 미만이었다. 삽입 손실 상태에 대해 정규화 되어진 위상 변화량은 10 dB 감쇠량까지 1.2-1.9 GHz의 대역내에서는 평균 1.27였다. 설계 대역 내에서 감쇠 량에 따콘 작은 위상 변화, 감쇠량의 평탄도, 엽.출력 반사 손실을 고려할 때, 실제 유용한 대역은 1.4-1.9 G GHz까지임을 알 수 있었으며, 이 대역 내에서 0-10 dB의 감쇠량까지 입.출력 반사 손실은 10 dB 이상이었다.

  • 본 논문에서는 다채널 가변광감쇠기에서 발생하는 열간섭 효과를 차단하여 광효율을 높이기 위하여 펨토초 레이저를 이용하여 트렌치를 가공하였다. 채널간 열간섭으로 인한 광감쇠 제어효율 하락을 막기 위하여, 가변광감쇠기 채널 사이에 펨토초 레이저로 트렌치의 폭과 깊이를 다르게 하여 가공하였고, 적용된 각 칩을 모듈화하여 전류에 따른 광감쇠율 변화를 관찰하였다. 그 결과 광감쇠를 위해 가해진 열이 주변채널에 영향을 매우 작게 미치는 것을 확인하였고, 뿐만 아니라 작은 전류에 광감쇠율이 민감하게 변화하는 것을 확인할 수 있어 효율적인 소자로서 개발 가능함을 확인하였다.

작업차량 장착용 충격흡수장치(TMA) 성능평가기준 수립 및 개발 연구 (A Study on the Development and of Establishment Performance Evaluation Criteria of Working Truck Mounted Attenuator)

  • Rear collisions to expressway work trucks result many casualties these days. But, currently, no special measure are being taken except deploying sign trucks behind the working trucks. In the U.S and Europe, trucks with TMA(Truck Mounted Attenuator) are being deployed behind the working truck, which is regarded as the standard method for work area safety, thereby reducing the fatality rates and property damage tremendously. Also, standard for the performance of TMA are established and TMA can be used in the field only when it satisfies the standard. In Korea, neither the standard for nor any guide to the TMA exists. In the situation some manufacturer developed TMA without proper performance evaluation and marketed limited number of TMAs in the field. In the study, NCHRP350, which is the performance standard of expressway safety features of U.S. and materials related to the TMA standard in Europe have been reviewed to establish the Korean performance criteria. Based on the review, and incorporating existing Korean standard for crash cushions, domestic standard for TMA has been proposed and applied in developing Korean TMA and crash tested it to verify the performance. The original design developed was crash tested and modified. The newly proposed design was studied using impact simulation program several times. Modifications were made after each simulation and prototype was built and crash tested as per the newly established TMA performance criteria.

Molecular Analysis of Promoter and Intergenic Region Attenuator of the Vibrio vulnificus prx1ahpF Operon

  • Prx1, an AhpF-dependent 2-Cys peroxiredoxin (Prx), was previously identified in Vibrio vulnificus, a facultative aerobic pathogen. In the present study, transcription of the V. vulnificus prx1ahpF genes, which are adjacently located on the chromosome, was evaluated by analyzing the promoter and intergenic region of the two genes. Northern blot analyses revealed that transcription of prx1ahpF results in two transcripts, the prx1 and prx1ahpF transcripts. Primer extension analysis and a point mutational analysis of the promoter region showed that the two transcripts are generated from a single promoter. In addition, the 3' end of the prx1 transcript at the prx1ahpF intergenic region was determined by a 3'RACE assay. These results suggested that the prx1ahpF genes are transcribed as an operon, and the prx1 transcript was produced by transcriptional termination in the intergenic region. RNA secondary structure prediction of the prx1ahpF intergenic region singled out a stem-loop structure without poly(U) tract, and a deletion analysis of the intergenic region showed that the atypical stem-loop structure acts as the transcriptional attenuator to result in the prx1 and prx1ahpF transcripts. The combined results demonstrate that the differential expression of prx1 and ahpF is accomplished by the cis-acting transcriptional attenuator located between the two genes and thereby leads to the production of a high level of Prx1 and a low level of AhpF.

유한요소 기법을 활용한 설계검증 및 4M 변경점 관리를 통한 레이더장비 품질 신뢰성 확보에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Design Verification by Using Finite Elements Method and Quality Improvement of Radar by Managing Change Points of 4M)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study is to improve the quality of the PGM system by improving the structure and production process of slip-ring rotary joint for radar. Methods: The improvement measures for each cause are established through failure analysis of broken items. Specifically, changing in the housing to improve the heating system. Changing the transportation method to prevent damage to equipment during transport. Changing work process of the attenuator ring to prevent damage. etc. Results: The results of this study are as follows; improving the heating system reduces heat generated by the attenuator by about 7 degrees and obtain additional temperature margins. Reduction of defect rate because of adding X-band rotary joint run-out measurement test, ESS of slip-ring rotary joint and Transportation improvement(reinforced flight boxes, tube protection, etc). Getting stable VSWR values by improving work process of attenuator overheating due to a bad bonding process. Conclusion: Through this study, improvements were made to slip-ring rotary joint that failed repeatedly for various reasons. As a result of the application of the improvements, the same fault does not occur until now, so we can see that the quality of PGM has improved.
