스마트윈도우용 대면적 액정셀 제작과 특성에 대한 연구 (A Study on Fabrication and Characteristics of Large Area Liquid-Crystal Cell for Smart-Window)

  • Smart windows are used as windows and doors to determine cooling and heating efficiency in the construction field. It's characteristics can increase the energy saving efficiency. In addition, the function of the smart window that can control the light transmittance transmitted from the external environment of the building to the building according to the needs of the user is attracting attention. In this study, a liquid crystal cell capable of controlling light transmittance of 297 × 210 ㎟ was fabricated by using a liquid crystal device as an optical shutter. Analysis of transmittance change according to driving voltage and driving stability according to thermal environment, We confirmed the applicability of building exterior materials as smart windows.

Recent Progress in Passive Radiative Cooling for Sustainable Energy Source

  • Passive daytime radiative cooling (PDRC) is attracting increasing attention as an eco-friendly technology that can save cooling energy by not requiring an external power supply. An ideal PDRC structure should improve solar reflectance and emissivity within the atmospheric spectral window. Early designs of photonic crystal materials demonstrated the benefits of PDRC. Since then, functional arrangements of polymer-based radiative cooling materials have played an important role and are rapidly expanding. This review summarizes the known inorganic, organic, and hybrid materials for PDRC. The review also provides a complete understanding of PDRC and highlights its practical applications.

대비 지도와 움직임 정보를 이용한 동영상으로부터 중요 객체 추출 (Salient Object Extraction from Video Sequences using Contrast Map and Motion Information)

  • 본 논문에서는 시공간 정보를 이용하여 동영상에서 움직이는 객체를 자동으로 추출하는 방법을 제안한다. 본 논문에서 제안하는 방법은 다른 영역과 구별되는 현저한 장소에 무의식적으로 집중되는 시각주의 특성을 컴퓨터 시스템에 도입한 대비 지도(contrast map)와 중요 특징점(salient point)을 적용한 것이 큰 특징이라고 할 수 있다. 대비 지도는 밝기(luminance), 색상(color) 그리고 방향성(direction) 3가지의 특징 정보 중 자기와 방향성의 특징을 나타내는 자기 지도(luminance map)와 방향성 지도(directional map)를 결합하여 대비 지도를 생성한다. 또한, 사람이 시각적으로 볼 때 의미 있다고 생각하는 중요 특징점을 웨이블릿 변환을 이용하여 찾아낸다. 이렇게 생성된 대비 지도와 중요 특징점을 이용하여 대략적인 집중윈도우(AW:Attention Window)의 위치와 크기를 결정한다. 다음으로, 동영상의 가장 큰 특징인 움직임 정보를 추정하여 집중윈도우를 객체에 가장 근사하게 축소시키고, 윤곽선 정보를 이용하여 객체를 추출한다. 윤곽선을 추출하기 위해 캐니에지(canny edge)를 사용하였으며, 배경의 윤곽선 제거를 위하여 윤곽선의 차이(DE:Difference of Edge)를 이용하여 가로 후보영역과 세로 후보영역을 추출한다. 추출된 2개의 후보영역을 AND연산과 모폴로지 연산을 이용하여 객체를 자동으로 추출하는 방법을 제안한다. 실험은 카메라가 고정된 상태에서 촬영한 동영상에 대해 이루어 졌으며, 객체와 배경이 효과적으로 분리되는 것을 확인하였다.

  • 높은 대역폭과 이더넷의 저비용 확장성 그리고 망 구성의 효율성 측면에서 장점을 가지고 있는 Ethernet Passive Optical Network (EPON)이 새로운 광 가입자망 기술로써 많은 관심을 받고 있다. EPON 시스템의 상향 링크는 다수의 사용자들에 의하여 공유되기 때문에 사용자들에게 상향 링크의 대역을 효율적으로 할당해 주는 대역할당 방식이 매우 중요한 역할을 하고 있다. 또한 사용자들로부터 요구되는 다양한 서비스 요구사항을 만족시키기 위하여 EPON 시스템에서의 QoS 지원에 대한 연구가 요구되고 있다. 최근 EPON 시스템을 위한 다양한 동적대역할당 방식들이 제안되었으나 사용자들에게 만족스러운 QoS를 지원하기에는 부족하였다. 본 논문에서는 EPON 시스템에서의 QoS 지원과 동시에 동적으로 대역할당이 가능한 가변 윈도우 방식을 제안한다. 기존 방식들의 가장 높은 우선순위 클래스 위주의 QoS 지원 방식과는 다르게 가변 윈도우 방식은 가장 높은 우선순위 클래스의 QoS를 보장하는 동시에 우선순위가 낮은 클래스들에게도 필요시 동적으로 대역을 할당하여 향상된 QoS 성능을 제공할 수 있는 장점이 있다. 성능평가를 통하여 가변 윈도우 방식의 QoS 성능을 기존에 제안된 방식들과 비교 평가하여 그 성능의 우수성을 입증하였다.

A Saliency-Based Focusing Region Selection Method for Robust Auto-Focusing

  • This paper presents a salient region detection algorithm for auto-focusing based on the characteristics of a human's visual attention. To describe the saliency at the local, regional, and global levels, this paper proposes a set of novel features including multi-scale local contrast, variance, center-surround entropy, and closeness to the center. Those features are then prioritized to produce a saliency map. The major advantage of the proposed approach is twofold; i) robustness to changes in focus and ii) low computational complexity. The experimental results showed that the proposed method outperforms the existing low-level feature-based methods in the sense of both robustness and accuracy for auto-focusing.

Predicting Stock Prices Based on Online News Content and Technical Indicators by Combinatorial Analysis Using CNN and LSTM with Self-attention

  • The stock market changes continuously as new information emerges, affecting the judgments of investors. Online news articles are valued as a traditional window to inform investors about various information that affects the stock market. This paper proposed new ways to utilize online news articles with technical indicators. The suggested hybrid model consists of three models. First, a self-attention-based convolutional neural network (CNN) model, considered to be better in interpreting the semantics of long texts, uses news content as inputs. Second, a self-attention-based, bi-long short-term memory (bi-LSTM) neural network model for short texts utilizes news titles as inputs. Third, a bi-LSTM model, considered to be better in analyzing context information and time-series models, uses 19 technical indicators as inputs. We used news articles from the previous day and technical indicators from the past seven days to predict the share price of the next day. An experiment was performed with Korean stock market data and news articles from 33 top companies over three years. Through this experiment, our proposed model showed better performance than previous approaches, which have mainly focused on news titles. This paper demonstrated that news titles and content should be treated in different ways for superior stock price prediction.

유비쿼터스 환경을 위한 하프미러형 인터페이스 시스템 개발과 응용 (Development of Half-Mirror Interface System and Its Application for Ubiquitous Environment)

  • In the era of ubiquitous computing, human-friendly man-machine interface is getting more attention due to its possibility to offer convenient services. For this, in this paper, we introduce a 'Half-Mirror Interface System (HMIS)' as a novel type of human-friendly man-machine interfaces. Basically, HMIS consists of half-mirror, USB-Webcam, microphone, 2ch-speaker, and high-speed processing unit. In our HMIS, two principal operation modes are selected by the existence of the user in front of it. The first one, 'mirror-mode', is activated when the user's face is detected via USB-Webcam. In this mode, HMIS provides three basic functions such as 1) make-up assistance by magnifying an interested facial component and TTS (Text-To-Speech) guide for appropriate make-up, 2) Daily weather information provider via WWW service, 3) Health monitoring/diagnosis service using Chinese medicine knowledge. The second one, 'display-mode' is designed to show decorative pictures, family photos, art paintings and so on. This mode is activated when the user's face is not detected for a time being. In display-mode, we also added a 'healing-window' function and 'healing-music player' function for user's psychological comfort and/or relaxation. All these functions are accessible by commercially available voice synthesis/recognition package.

  • 최근 각종 스마트 폰이 출시됨에 따라 스마트 폰이 대중화되어 가고 있다. 이에 따라 모바일에 관한 관심이 급증하면서 각종 안내서비스, 광고서비스 등이 모바일 환경으로 시선이 집중되고 있다. 이러한 서비스는 모바일의 Wi-Fi는 물론 3G망에 접속할 수 없는 상황에서도 원활하게 서비스가 이루어져야 하며, 그 목적에 부합되는 특수성을 가져야 한다. 본 논문에서는 Microsoft Window Mobile(이하 WinMobile)과 Android 운영체제의 모바일 장치에 Packing R-tree를 이용한 GIS 엔진을 탑재하여 3G, Wi-Fi 등의 통신 장치가 없거나 동작하지 않는 상황에서도 지도 서비스가 가능하며, 특정 목적에 특화된 위치기반 지도 서비스의 기반이 되는 모듈을 구현하였다.

Improving Performance of Remote TCP in Cognitive Radio Networks

  • Recent advances in cognitive radio technology have drawn immense attention to higher layer protocols above medium access control, such as transmission control protocol (TCP). Most proposals to improve the TCP performance in cognitive radio (CR) networks have assumed that either all nodes are in CR networks or the TCP sender side is in CR links. In those proposals, lower layer information such as the CR link status could be easily exploited to adjust the congestion window and improve throughput. In this paper, we consider a TCP network in which the TCP sender is located remotely over the Internet while the TCP receiver is connected by a CR link. This topology is more realistic than the earlier proposals, but the lower layer information cannot be exploited. Under this assumption, we propose an enhanced TCP protocol for CR networks called TCP for cognitive radio (TCP-CR) to improve the existing TCP by (1) detection of primary user (PU) interference by a remote sender without support from lower layers, (2) delayed congestion control (DCC) based on PU detection when the retransmission timeout (RTO) expires, and (3) exploitation of two separate scales of the congestion window adapted for PU activity. Performance evaluation demonstrated that the proposed TCP-CR achieves up to 255% improvement of the end-to-end throughput. Furthermore, we verified that the proposed TCP does not deteriorate the fairness of existing TCP flows and does not cause congestions.

A Moving Window Principal Components Analysis Based Anomaly Detection and Mitigation Approach in SDN Network

  • Network anomaly detection in Software Defined Networking, especially the detection of DDoS attack, has been given great attention in recent years. It is convenient to build the Traffic Matrix from a global view in SDN. However, the monitoring and management of high-volume feature-rich traffic in large networks brings significant challenges. In this paper, we propose a moving window Principal Components Analysis based anomaly detection and mitigation approach to map data onto a low-dimensional subspace and keep monitoring the network state in real-time. Once the anomaly is detected, the controller will install the defense flow table rules onto the corresponding data plane switches to mitigate the attack. Furthermore, we evaluate our approach with experiments. The Receiver Operating Characteristic curves show that our approach performs well in both detection probability and false alarm probability compared with the entropy-based approach. In addition, the mitigation effect is impressive that our approach can prevent most of the attacking traffic. At last, we evaluate the overhead of the system, including the detection delay and utilization of CPU, which is not excessive. Our anomaly detection approach is lightweight and effective.
