  • This study analyzed the attention concentration tendencies of one(1) subject who showed convergent exploratory acts actively through the gaze-brainwave measurement experiment of cafe space images and our research findings are as follows. First, the areas of interest (AOIs) that the subject gazed visually by paying attention to it and concentrating on it at a cafe space include counter&menu area, sign area, partition area, image wall area, stairs area, and movable furniture area, and built-in furniture area: seven areas in total. Second, conscious gaze frequency appeared the highest in counter&menu area, and conscious gaze appeared more later than in initial times. Third, conscious gaze pattern was divided into the zone that explored various areas dispersely (distributed exploratory zone) and the zone that explored between particular areas concentratedly (intensive exploratory zone). Fourth, as a result of analyzing the brainwave attention concentration, it was found that the attention concentration in prefrontal lobe (Fp1, Fp2) and frontal lobe (F3, F4) rose to a higher level in the zone of 15 to 16 seconds and this time zone was considered to be a zone where gazing at counter&menu area was very active. In addition, the attention concentration appeared higher in the initial zone than in the later zone, among the entire experimental time zones. Finally, as a result of analyzing the changes in activation by brain portion of the SMR wave expressed when maintaining the arousal and attention concentration, it was found that the right prefrontal lobe and the frontal lobe became activated in the time zone when the intensive exploration of "counter&menu area" and "movable furniture${\leftrightarrow}$built-in furniture area" had occurred and the time zone when the intensive exploration of "image wall${\leftrightarrow}$partition area" and "counter&menu${\leftrightarrow}$sign area" had occurred.

  • This study examines IPO underpricing and its interaction with investor attention as one of key factors that can affect post-IPO performance in the short- and long-run. With higher investor attention measured as Google searches around IPO dates, our empirical results show that IT firms are underpriced more severely than non-IT firms. We also demonstrate that investor attention is positively associated with IPO performance in the short-run for both IT and non-IT firms. However, the impact of investor attention is more sustained for IT firms over a longer time horizon when coupled with a high level of underpricing while its impact is neutralized for non-IT firms. Given the unique attributes such as network effects embedded in the IT industry, our findings suggest that IPO underpricing and its interplay with investor attention for IT firms play an important role in shaping long-run performance and ultimately affecting fundamental value.

  • For rapid and abrupt control of a missile in supersonic flight, side jet on a missile body is found to be a useful devise as evidenced by recent missile development at several nations. The magnitude of the side jet and the duration of it decide the level of control of such a missile system. In this paper, the aerodynamic characteristics of the side jet devise itself are examined in terms of key parameters such as the side jet nozzle contour, the chamber pressure and temperature. Specifically attention is focused on the effect of the chamber shape between the straight nozzle and the bended nozzle by 90 degrees. The flow properties as well as the thrust level are compared between the two shapes. Particular attention is paid at the way the nozzle is bended at the joint. Effects of the length and the divergence angle of the nozzle on the thrust magnitude are also quantified among the three different side jet nozzles.

  • The purposes of the study were to examine the level of environmental consciousness and behavior of the consumers living in Incheon areas and to find out the influencing factors increasing or decreasing the environmental consciousness and behavior. A survey was conducted during September 17 thru 30 in 2004 using questionaires developed in the study. Total 1,567 consumers were analysed using SPSS program. Major findings of the study were as follows: The level of environmental conscious behavior is not low in absolute perspectives, but it is lower than environmental consciousness except environmental attention. The most influencing factors of environmental behavior were perceived importance of the behaviors, environmental behaviors of neighbors, and attention to the environmental problems. The effective environmental education and policy can be made focusing on these influencing factors.

  • In this paper, we propose a psychological state estimation process that computes children's attention and tension in response to training stimuli. Joint attention was adopted as the training stimulus required for behavioral intervention, and the Discrete trial training (DTT) technique was applied as the training protocol. Three types of training stimulation contents are composed to check the user's attention and tension level and provided mounted on a character-shaped tabletop robot. Then, the gaze response to the user's training stimulus is estimated with the vision-based head pose recognition and geometrical calculation model, and the nervous system response is analyzed using the PPG and GSR bio-signals using heart rate variability(HRV) and histogram techniques. Through experiments using robots, it was confirmed that the psychological response of users to training contents on joint attention could be quantified.

  • Based on known physiological and psychophysical results, a neural network model for visual selection, called FeaureGate is proposed. The model consists of a hierarchy of spatial maps. and the flow of information from each level of the hierarchy to the next is controlled by attentional gates. The gates are jointly controlled by a bottom-up system favoring locations with unique features. and a top-down mechanism favoring locations with features designated as target features. The present study focuses on the top-down mechanism of the FeatureGate model that produces results similar to Moran and Desimone's (1985), which many current models have failed to explain, The FeatureGate model allows a consistent interpretation of many different experimental results in visual attention. including parallel feature searches and serial conjunction searches. attentional gradients triggered by cuing, feature-driven spatial selection, split a attention, inhibition of distractor locations, and flanking inhibition. This framework can be extended to produce a model of shape recognition using upper-level units that respond to configurations of features.

  • In this paper, a lightweight network with fewer parameters compared to the existing object detection method is proposed. In the case of the currently used detection model, the network complexity has been greatly increased to improve accuracy. Therefore, the proposed network uses EfficientNet as a feature extraction network, and the subsequent layers are formed in a pyramid structure to utilize low-level detailed features and high-level semantic features. An attention process was applied between pyramid structures to suppress unnecessary noise for prediction. All computational processes of the network are replaced by depth-wise and point-wise convolutions to minimize the amount of computation. The proposed network was trained and evaluated using the PASCAL VOC dataset. The features fused through the experiment showed robust properties for various objects through a refinement process. Compared with the CNN-based detection model, detection accuracy is improved with a small amount of computation. It is considered necessary to adjust the anchor ratio according to the size of the object as a future study.

  • A color image compression based on saliency map was proposed. The proposed method provides higher quality in saliency blocks on which people's attention focuses, compared with non-saliency blocks on which the attention less focuses at a given bitrate. The proposed method uses 3 different quantization tables according to each block's saliency level. In the experiment using 6 typical images, we compared the proposed method with JPEG and other conventional methods. As the result, it showed that the proposed method (Qup=0.5*Qx) is about 3.1 to 1.2 dB better than JPEG and others in saliency blocks in PSNR at the almost similar bitrate. In the comparison of result images, the proposed one also showed less error than others in saliency blocks.
