  • The dihydroxylation reaction of allylic amines is a facile and useful synthetic method to obtain amino diol structures that are widely found in lots of biologically important natural products. This review will focus on the recent methods of both substrate-controlled and ligand-controlled dihydroxylation reactions of acyclic allylic amines. In addition, several applications of the diastereoselective dihydroxylation methods to asymmetric syntheses of natural products are presented.

  • The addition of a carbanion to ${\yen}{\acute{a}}{\yen}{\hat{a}}$-unsaturated carbonyl compounds is of importance in the C-C bond formation reactions for modern pharmaceuticals and organic synthesis. Recently, heterogeneous asymmetric catalysis became more attractive area of research because of the easy recovery and separation of the catalyst from the reaction system. Most of synthetic methods for heterogeneous catalysts were grafting or immobilization of homogeneous catalyst onto the solid supports. Trans-1,2-Diaminocyclohexane(DACH) and L-proline ligands have been enormously used as chiral ligands in several catalytic transformation under homogenous conditions. Our group prepared l-proline functionalized mesoporous silica was synthesized under acidic condition using a poly(ethylene oxide)-poly(propylene oxide)-poly(ethylene oxide) triblock copolymer template (EO20PO70EO20, Pluronic P-123, BASF). Furthermore, we successfully directly synthesized trans-1,2 diaminocyclohexane functionalized mesoporous silica by using microwave method. The direct functionalization of chiral ligand into the framework of mesoporous materials is expected to be useful for the heterogeneous asymmetric catalysis. So, we adopt the direct synthesis of chiral ligand functionalized mesoporous silica by using thermal and microwave irradiation. Then, chiral ligand functionalized mesoporous silicas were applied to enantioselective asymmetric catalytic reactions.

  • Long-haul transmission of multiple transmission signals, such as wavelength division multiplexed (WDM), has became possible, because the signal distortion caused by chromatic dispersion and nonlinearity can be compensated by applying dispersion management, optical phase conjugation and combination of the two methods into the transmission link. The biggest obstacle to applying optical phase conjugation to an optical link is that the optical phase conjugator (OPC) must be located only in the middle of the entire transmission line. This paper shows that the location constraints of OPC can be overcome through the application of an asymmetric dispersion map. The location of the OPC considered in this paper exists between the 8th and 9th fiber spans out of a total of 48 fiber spans. Additionally, the dispersion map has an asymmetric cumulative dispersion profile with respect to the OPC. As a result of the simulation, it was confirmed that the distortion compensation effect of the WDM channel can be increased compared to the link to which the traditional dispersion map is applied, depending on the overall shape of the cumulative dispersion profile distribution of the proposed asymmetric dispersion map and the selection of the profile slope.

  • We study a classification problem of significant differences in the proportion of two groups known as the unbalanced classification problem. It is usually more difficult to classify classes accurately in unbalanced data than balanced data. Most observations are likely to be classified to the bigger group if we apply classification methods to the unbalanced data because it can minimize the misclassification loss. However, this smaller group is misclassified as the larger group problem that can cause a bigger loss in most real applications. We compare several classification methods for the unbalanced data using sampling techniques (up and down sampling). We also check the total loss of different classification methods when the asymmetric loss is applied to simulated and real data. We use the misclassification rate, G-mean, ROC and AUC (area under the curve) for the performance comparison.

  • Objective : To identify the effect of symmetrical and asymmetric bilateral training For stroke patients in upper extremity recovery. Methods : 15 patients with stroke, randomized to an in- phase group(n =7) and anti-phase group(n =8). Each groups received symmetrical and asymmetric bilateral training, 30-min sessions per a day for 5 weeks, total 20 session.Accelerometer was used to evaluate the amount used for both groups. Y-BAT was used to evaluate performance status and satisfaction, ARAT was used to evaluate hand function. Results : the amount used of symmetrical movement training showed significant changes in affected and unaffected side. asymmetric bilateral training. there is a significant difference in affected side before and after receiving asymmetric bilateral training. Also, There was a significant difference between the groups on the affected side. Both training, there was no significant difference in performance, satisfaction, and upper limb function between group but, there was significant differences within-groups, Conclusions : Symmetric training showed higher motor performance than asymmetric training, but, To obtain a clearer difference, it would be necessary to use a neuromuscular assessment tool such as fMRI. Also, need a clearer training protocol and the need for follow-up studies on more stroke patients is suggested.

  • This study aims to test Voluntary Disclosure, Quality of Financial Reporting and Information Asymmetry as Moderation Variables. The Voluntary Disclosure variable is calculated using the Index Disclosure. This research uses quantitative methods and uses partial least square with EViews data analysis. The research sample consisted of 225 manufacturing companies listed on the Indonesian stock exchange for the period 2016-2018. The results of the study state that voluntary disclosure has a positive and significant effect on the quality of financial reporting through asymmetric information. The relationship between voluntary disclosure and asymmetric information has a negative effect on the quality of financial reporting, states that the disclosure of voluntary reports to companies can prevent information asymmetry, as well as the relationship of voluntary disclosure to information asymmetry states that companies that make voluntary disclosure will increase the interest of investors and other stakeholders. The quality of financial reporting states that if there is information asymmetry, the quality of financial reporting will also decline. The low value of relevance will affect the level of large or small information gaps between management and investors. The quality of financial reporting with increased relevance means that asymmetric information will have a negative impact on financial reporting.

  • Purpose : This study investigated the effects of different types of plank exercise on abdominal muscle thickness in subjects with asymmetric pelvic anterior tilt. Methods : Participants with a diagnosis of pelvic anterior tilt were divided into an experimental group (n=12) and a control group (n=13). The thicknesses of the transverse abdominis (TrA), internal oblique (IO), and external oblique (EO) muscles were measured using an ultrasound diagnostic apparatus. The data were analyzed using an SPSS (Ver. 21) program. Results : In the experimental group, there was a significant difference in the thicknesses of the left and right muscles in the standing and elbow plank exercises (p<.05). All the muscle thicknesses increased significantly during the plank exercises(elbow plank, right-side plank, and left-side plank) as compared with those in the standing position (p<.05). In addition, the side-plank exercise resulted in significantly higher muscle thickness of the supported side (p<.01, p<.001). Conclusion : These findings suggest that asymmetric exercise should be applied to the change of the left and right muscles of the abdominal when applying plank exercise according to pelvic anterior tilt.

  • In case of deep excavation analysis, the theory of beam on elasto-plastic geo-material (elasto-plastic theory) can not consider the inclined ground layers appropriately. It is frequently assumed that the soil layers are parallel to the surface. However, the soil layers are generally inclined and even asymmetric. The common modelling of the asymmetric half section of the excavation system using the elasto-plastic theory, can lead differences from the real behaviour of ground, which has critical significance in case of deep excavation in urban area. In this study, an attempt to find appropriate modelling methods was made by carrying out a comparative study between the FEM and the elasto-plastic analyses. It is shown that in case of the upward-inclined soil profile the elasto-plastic theory may underestimate the performance of retaining structures.

  • The purpose of this paper is to propose an improvement method of BER for coded 16QAM over Rayleigh fading channel. To overcome the BER degradation due to the fading under mobile communication, we apply trellis coded modulation technique which is efficient to get a coding gain without the expansion of bandwidth. Especially, to minimize the burst error which are the main factor of the BER degradation for mobile communication systems, we apply interleaving/deinterleaving method to the studying system. Also we apply asymmetric signal mapping methods to this TCM scheme. From the computer simulation, BER performance of asymmetric case has achieved about 1 dB improvement of about $10^{-4}$, compared to the traditional symmetric case.

  • Objective: The purpose of this study was to examine the symmetry and parallelism of the skeletal and soft-tissue poria by three-dimensional (3D) computed tomographic (CT) imaging. Methods: The locations of the bilateral skeletal and soft-tissue poria in 29 patients with facial asymmetry (asymmetric group) and 29 patients without facial asymmetry (symmetric group) were measured in 3D reconstructed models of CT images by using a 3D coordinate system. The mean intergroup differences in the anteroposterior and vertical angular deviations of the poria and their anteroposterior and vertical parallelism were statistically analyzed. Results: The symmetric and asymmetric groups showed significant anteroposterior angular differences in both the skeletal and the soft-tissue poria (p = 0.007 and 0.037, respectively; Mann-Whitney U-test). No significant differences in the anteroposterior and vertical parallelism of the poria were noted ($p{\leq}0.05$; Wilcoxon signed-rank test). Conclusions: In general, the skeletal poria are parallel to the soft-tissue poria. However, patients with facial asymmetry tend to have asymmetric poria.
