An eddy current probe ($8{\times}1$ multiple-element, surface scan) was successfully designed and fabricated at the KEPRI using the impedance equivalent circuit theory. The probe is intended for the detection of circumferential deformations (cross-section view) of the heat exchanger tubing that can occur due to corrosion, erosion, and denting. Optimum design parameters providing the highest sensitivity and signal-to-noise ratio, such as the coil dimensions, electrical characteristics, and test frequencies, were determined based on initial laboratory experiments conducted on the test specimen (SS304 tubing: OD : 9.68mm, wall-thickness : 0.47mm) containing artificial flaws (e.g., dents and corroded surface on tube OD) using the available Zetec-made probe. Using this parameters, a new probe was made and tested on an unknown specimen. The result indicated that the new probe is capable of detecting the circumferential deformation with the error of ${\pm}0.2%$ (0.022mm) of the tube O.D.

This study proposed a convenient seismic design procedure for buckling-restrained braced frames based on the equivalent energy concept. The design process begins with the computation of input energy from response spectrum. Then the elastic energy and plastic energy are computed based on the equal energy concept. The computed plastic energy is distributed to each story along energy distribution ratio and the cross-sectional area of each brace is computed so that all the plastic energy is dissipated by the brace. The proposed procedure was applied to the design of three-, six-, and twenty-story steel frames with buckling-restrained braces, and artificial earthquake records were used for verification of the proposed method. According to analysis results, top story displacements of the low-rise structure satisfies the given target displacement however that of the twenty-story structure was much smaller than the given target displacement.
In a plant breeding program, an efficient selection of desired characters in a population is important. Generally, many agronomic characters in a given population are determined by polygenes and quantitatively inherited. In practice, the genetic relationship between two observed characters which are undoubtedly subjected to the environmental influence is difficult to identify. In recent years, many workers have attempted to understant the genetic relationship between characters in terms of genotypic correlation, and the knowledge thus gained should furnish many important and useful information for the planning of breeding, selection, and interpretation of the result. The genotypic correlation is the result of pleiotropy, linkage of genes(2, 3, 5, 6, 8) and natural or artificial selection(4). The purposes of this study were to estimate genotyric and phenotypic correlations between all possible pairs of nine characters. and to seek certain characters which may be useful as indicators of certain important agronomic characters. Weber and Moorthy(10), Johnson et al. (5) and Sheth(7) found that in general, the genotypic correlations were higher than the phenotypic correlations. Weiss et al. (11) obtained significant positive correlations between maturity and oil content, maturity and low protein content, and high protein content and low oil content. Weber and Moorthy(10) reported the positive genotypic correlations between flowering and maturity, yield and maturity, yield and plant height, yield and seed weight, and negative genotypic correlations between maturity and oil content, and oil content and seed weight. Johnson et al. (5) studied the genotypic and phenotypic correlations among 24 characters and concluded that selection based entirely on a long fruiting period, lateness, heavy seed, low protein, high oil and resistance to lodging would be effective in increasing yield. Sheth(7) found the following positive associations among characters; height and maturity, yield and lodging, low protein content and high oil content, and yield and low protein content. Hanson et al.(1) also reported high negative correlation between seed yield and protein content.
PURPOSE. The bond strengths between resin denture teeth with various compositions and denture base resins including conventional and CAD/CAM purposed materials were evaluated to find influence of each material. MATERIALS AND METHODS. Cylindrical rods (6.0 mm diameter × 8.0 mm length) prepared from pre-polymerized CAD/CAM denture base resin blocks (PMMA Block-pink; Huge Dental Material, Vipi Block-Pink; Vipi Industria) were bonded to the basal surface of resin teeth from three different companies (VITA MFT®; VITA Zahnfabrik, Endura Posterio®; SHOFU Dental, Duracross Physio®; Nissin Dental Products Inc.) using resin cement (Super-Bond C&B; SUN MEDICAL). As a control group, rods from a conventional heat-polymerizing denture base resin (Vertex™ Rapid Simplified; Vertex-Dental B.V. Co.) were attached to the resin teeth using the conventional flasking and curing method. Furthermore, the effect of air abrasion was studied with the highly cross-linked resin teeth (VITA MFT®) groups. The shear bond strengths were measured, and then the fractured surfaces were examined to analyze the mode of failure. RESULTS. The shear bond strengths of the conventional heat-polymerizing PMMA denture resin group and the CAD/CAM denture base resin groups were similar. Air abrasion to VITA MFT® did not improve shear bond strengths. Interfacial failure was the dominant cause of failure for all specimens. CONCLUSION. Shear bond strengths of CAD/CAM denture base materials and resin denture teeth using resin cement are comparable to those of conventional methods.
In order to understand evaluation of the seismic stability of a reinforced earth retaining, we made chambers of 1:10 (the ratio of the miniature), considering the law of similarity based on drawings of representative cross sections. And we measured an increase in acceleration, earth pressure, and displacement after applying Hachinohe wave (long period), Ofunato wave (short period), and artificial wave, complying with the domestic standards, in order to evaluate the external stability of the reinforced earth retaining wall during earthquake based on the measurements. As a result, the unreinforced earth retaining wall collapsed at 2 g of seismic acceleration. But the reinforced earth retaining wall was evaluated to ensure proper stability as well, with respect to the earth pressure gauge, the increments of earth pressure tend to be raised significantly in the upper than the lower and showed a similar characteristic of behavior in previous theory.
The effects of plaster on the behavior of single-story single-bay masonry-infilled steel frames under in-plane base accelerations have been experimentally investigated by a shake-table. Tested structures were made in a 1/3 scale, with realistic material properties and construction methods. Steel frames with high and low flexural rigidity of beams and columns were considered. Each type of frame was tested with three variants of masonry: (i) non-plastered masonry; (ii) masonry infill with conventional plaster on both sides; and (iii) masonry infill with a polyvinyl chloride (PVC) net reinforced plaster on both sides. Masonry bricks were made of lightweight cellular concrete. Each frame was firstly successively exposed to horizontal base accelerations of an artificial accelerogram, and afterwards, to horizontal base accelerations of a real earthquake. Characteristic displacements, strains and cracks in the masonry were established for each applied excitation. It has been concluded that plaster strengthens the infill and prevents damages in it, which results in more favorable behavior and increased bearing capacity of plastered masonry-infilled frames compared to non-plastered masonry-infilled frames. The load-bearing contribution of the adopted PVC net in the plaster was not noticeable for the tested specimens, probably due to relative small cross section area of fibers in the net. Behavior of masonry-infilled steel frames significantly depends on frame stiffness. Strong frames have smaller displacements than weak frames, which reduces deformations and damages of an infill.
One to one Marketing (a.k.a. database marketing or relationship marketing) is one of the many fields that will benefit from the electronic revolution and shifts in consumer sales and advertising. As a component of intelligent customer services on Internet storefront, this paper describes technology of providing personalized advertisement using the market basket analysis, a well-Known data mining technique. The underlining theories of recommendation techniques are statistics, data mining, artificial intelligence, and/or rule-based matching. In the rule-based approach for personalized recommendation, marketing rules for personalization are usually collected from marketing experts and are used to inference with customer's data. However, it is difficult to extract marketing rules from marketing experts, and also difficult to validate and to maintain the constructed Knowledge base. In this paper, using marketing basket analysis technique, marketing rules for cross sales are extracted, and are used to provide personalized advertisement selection when a customer visits in an Internet store.
The nonlinear finite element program has been developed to analyze the design performance of an artificial hip prosthesis and long term behavior of a treated femur with stems made of composite material after cementless total hip arthroplasty(THA). The authors developed the three dimentional FEM models of femoral bone with designed composite stem which was taken with elliptic cross section of 816 brick elements under hip contact load and muscle farce in simulating single leg stand. Using the program, density changes, stress distributions and micromotions of the material femoral bone were evaluated by changing fiber orientation of stems for selected manufacturing method such as plate cut and bend mold. The results showed that the composite materials such as AS4/PEEK and T300/976 gave less bone resorption than the metallic material such as cobalt chrome alloy, titanium alloy and stainless steal. It was found that increasing the long term stability of the prosthesis in the femur could be obtained by selecting the appropriate ply orientation and stacking sequence of composite.
Cardiopulmonary resuscitation(CPR) is performed by artificial ventilation and thoracic compression for the patient under emergent situation to maintain at least the minimum level of respiration and blood circulation for life survival. Quality of the pre-hospital CPR not only significantly affects the patient's survival rate but also minimizes side effects caused by CPR. Good quality CPR requires monitoring respiration, however, traditional respiratory air flow transducers cannot be used because the transducer elements are located on the flow axis. The present study developed a new technique with no physical object on the flow stream but enabling the air flow measurement and easily incorporated with the CPR devices. A turbulence chamber was formed in the middle of the respiratory tube by locally enlarging the cross-sectional area where the flow related turbulence was generated inducing energy loss which was in turn converted into pressure difference. The turbulence chamber was simply an empty enlarged air space, thus no physical object was placed on the flow stream, but still the flow rate could be evaluated. Both inspiratory and expiratory flows were obtained with symmetric measurement characteristics. Quadratic curve fitting provided excellent calibration formula with a correlation coefficient>0.999 (P<0.0001) and the mean relative error<1 %. The present results can be usefully applied to accurately monitor the air flow rate during CPR.

In this study, we evaluated corrosion behavior of a common rolling stock axle material, RSA1, in seawater. 3-electrode electrochemical cell experiment was conducted using artificial sea water, fabricated according to ASTM-D1141 set by American Society for Testing and Materials, where the corrosion current density and corrosion rate were determined to be $18.3{\mu}A/cm2$ and 0.217 mm/yr, respectively, by employing potentiodynamic test method and impedance spectroscopy method. Considering the fact that life time of railway car is ~25 years, the expected corrosion layer depth is 5mm. Constant-current corrosion test was conducted to accelerate the corrosion process, to reach corrosion periods of 1,3 and 4 years based on Faraday's law, followed by tension tests where the reduced specimen gauge cross-section was re-measured for stress calculation. While no apparent corrosion-related changes in mechanical properties were observed in the elastic regime, the reduction in ductility of the material was found to be increased as the corrosion period increased. The results of this study are expected to be basic corrosion data for the design of rolling stock axles, which will be operated in the sea water environment.
