A long standing problem in the study of Active Galactic Nuclei (AGNs) is that the observed VLBI core is in fact a blending of the actual AGN core (classically defined by the ${\tau}=1$ surface) and the upstream regions of the jet or optically thin flows. This blending may cause some biases in the observables of the core, such as its flux density, size or brightness temperature, which may lead to misleading interpretation of the derived quantities and physics. We study the effects of such blending under the view of the Korean VLBI Network (KVN) for a sample of AGNs at 43 GHz by comparing their observed properties with observations obtained using the Very Large Baseline Array (VLBA). Our results suggest that the observed core sizes are a factor ~ 11 larger than these of VLBA, which is similar to the factor expected by considering the different resolutions of the two facilities. We suggest the use of this factor to consider blending effects in KVN measurements. Other parameters, such as flux density or brightness temperature, seem to possess a more complicated dependence.

This study examined the electric power quantity derived from solar radiation after installing a photovoltaic power generation system on the rooftop of building adjacent to a greenhouse with a view to reducing the operating expenses of the greenhouse by securing electric energy required to run it. Results of the study can be summed up as follows: The maximum, mean, and minimum solar radiation on the horizontal plane was $26.1MJ{\cdot}m^{-2}$, $14,0MJ{\cdot}m^{-2}$, and $0.6MJ{\cdot}m^{-2}$, respectively and individual the daily electric energy generated was about 6.1 kWh, 3.7 kWh, and 0.01 kWh. The cumulative total amounts of solar radiation and electric energy was about $4,378.2MJ{\cdot}m^{-2}$ and 1,163.2 kWh, respectively. Maximum, mean and minimum cumulative electric energy consumed through each load respectively was 4.5 kWh, 2.4 kWh, and 0.0 kWh and the cumulative electric energy were 739.2 kWh, which accounted for about 63.5% of generated power. In case of the mean amount of power consumption of the system used for this study, the small capacity of heater and the short operating hours meant there was enough power; while big capacity of heater led to a shortage, and if the array surface temperature increased relatively, the energy became proportionate to solar radiation and generated power does not increase. The correlation coefficient between the two factors was 0.851, which indicates a high correlation coefficient.

Detection and localization of a quiet target in shallow water environments is a challenging problem because of the complicated acoustic Propagation and the Prevalence of loud surface ship interference. Matched Field Processing (MFP) can help address the concern by using a Propagation model to determine the steering vectors, thus Providing optimal away gain and localization accuracy. However, Performance of MFP have yet realized in practice, for several reasons. The most important limitation is that precise information on the underwater environments is generally not available. To examine the Performance of MFP in the East Sea of Korea, we have accomplished a series of matched acoustic Properties and localization experiment (MAPLE). We analyzed the array data measured from MAPLE which is accomplished using a vertical line array and a towed acoustic source off the east cost of Korea in Oct. 2003. We localized the acoustic source using MFP. It is well known that the temperature structure in the experimental site is affected by the short period fluctuation such as internal wave. In this paper, it is found that the sidelobe level on the MFP ambiguity surface is increased being affected by the short period fluctuation.
Outgassing from such sources as paints, coatings, adhesives and other non-metallic surfaces can contaminate satellites, especially second surface mirror and optical lens, it cause satellite to fail in own missions. The vacuum bake-out test using high temperature(more than $85 ^{\circ}C$)and high vacuum(less than $5.0{\times}1-^{-3}$ Pa) certify that the components of satellite work properly and can survive and operate in space environment like high vacuum. In the bake-out chamber installed at SITC of KARI, Rotary vacuum pump and Booster pump produce low vacuum of 5.0 Pa, and then two cryopumps produce high vacuum of below $5.0{\times}10^{-3}$ Pa. Also 48 ceramic heaters were provided to simulate high temperature. During the vacuum bake-out test, we detected contaminants using RGA(Residual Gas Analyzer) and measure the outgassing rate of the contaminant using the TQCM(Thermoelectric Quartz Crystal Microbalance). Also, IR/UV Spectrometer and witness plate be used to certify that the components were suitable for the spacecraft. This paper includes the preparation and procedures of the bake-out test for SAR(Solar Array Regulator) and MLI(Multi Layer Insulator), which were the components of the spacecraft. Especially, we discussed the methods and results of the contamination measurement. In the bake-out for SAR, the contamination was measured continuously although it was on the decrease from TQCM results. And RCA established that it is a highly polymerized compound. In the MLI bake-out using RGA and witness plate, we didn't detect any contamination materials.

In an infrared optical system, using a cooled detector generates a phenomenon called a narcissus, in which the focal-plane array cooled to very low temperatures is reflected at the lens surface and detected. The narcissus can be removed by non-uniformity correction of the detector pixel, so narcissus is generally ignored in infrared optics. However, non-uniformity correction reduces the sensitivity of the system. Also, as the housing temperature varies due to an environmental temperature change, or a lens is moved for focusing or athermalization purposes, a narcissus may occur even after non-uniformity correction. To minimize such a narcissus, the amount of the effect must be controlled in the lens-design stage. In this paper we designed a midinfrared optical system and analyzed the narcissus by setting the lens surface reflectance to 1%. In addition, the design was divided into stages of an initial design, an improved design, and a minimum design, and the narcissus was improved to about 56% of that in the initial design.

The structure zone model has been used to provide an overview of the relationship between the microstructure of the films deposited by PVD and the most prominent deposition condition.s. B.AMovchan and AV.Demchishin have proposed it firstls such model. They concluded that the general features of the resulting structures could be correlated into three zones depending on $T/T_m$. Here T m is the melting point of the coating material and T is the substrate temperature in kelvines. Zone 1 ($T/Tm_) is dominated by tapered macrograins with domed tops, zone 2 ($O.3) by columnar grains with denser boundaries and zone 3 ($T/T_m>O.5$) by equiaxed grains formed by recrystallization. J.AThomton has extended this model to include the effect of the sputtering gas pressure and found a fourth zone termed zone T(transition zone) consisting of a dense array of poorly defined fibrous grains. R.Messier found that the zone I-T boundary (fourth zone of Thorton) varies in a fashion similar to the film bias potential as a function of gas pressure. However, there has not nearly enough model for explaining the change in morphology with crystal orientation of the films. The structure zone model only provide an information about the morphology of the deposited film. In general, the nucleation and growth mechanism for granular and fine structure of the deposited films are very complex in an PVD technique because the morphology and orientation depend not only on the substrate temperature but also on the energy of deposition of the atoms or ions, the kinetic mechanism between metal atoms and argon or nitrogen gas, and even on the presence of impurities. In order to clarify these relationship, AI and Mg thin films were prepared on SPCC steel substrates by PVD techniques. The influence of gas pressures and bias voltages on their crystal orientation and morphology of the prepared films were investigated by SEM and XRD, respectively. And the effect of crystal orientation and morphology of the prepared films on corrosion resistance was estimated by measuring polarization curves in 3% NaCI solution.
Antifreeze proteins (AFPs) have ice binding affinity, depress freezing temperature and inhibit ice recystallization which protect cellular membranes in polar organisms. Recent structural studies of antifreeze proteins have significantly expanded our understanding of the structure-function relationship and ice crystal growth inhibition. Although AFPs (Type I-IV AFP from fish, insect AFP and Plant AFP) have completely different fold and no sequence homology, they share a common feature of their surface area for ice binding property. The conserved ice-binding sites are relatively flat and hydrophobic. For example, Type I AFP has an amphipathic, single ${\alpha}$-helix and has regularly spaced Thr-Ala residues which make direct interaction with oxygen atoms of ice crystals. Unlike Type I AFP, Type II and III AFP are compact globular proteins that contain a flat ice-binding patch on the surface. Type II and Type III AFP show a remarkable structural similarity with the sugar binding lectin protein and C-terminal domain of sialic acid synthase, respectively. Type IV is assumed to form a four-helix bundle which has sequence similarity with apolipoprotein. The results of our modeling suggest an ice-binding induced structural change of Type IV AFP. Insect AFP has ${\beta}$-helical structure with a regular array of Thr-X-Thr motif. Threonine residues of each Thr-X-Thr motif fit well into the ice crystal lattice and provide a good surface-surface complementarity. This review focuses on the structural characteristics and details of the ice-binding mechanism of antifreeze proteins.

Nucleate pool boiling experiments for R11 under a constant wall temperature condition were carried out. A microscale heater array was used for the heating and the measurement of high temporal and spatial resolution by the Wheatstone bridge circuit. Very sensitive heat flow rate data were obtained by the control for the surface condition with high time resolution. The measured heat flow rate shows a discernable peak at the initial growth stage and reaches an almost constant value. In the thermal growth region, bubble shows a growth proportional to $t^{\frac{1}{5}}$. The bubble growth behavior is analyzed with a dimensionless parameter to compare with the previous results in the same scale. As the wall superheat increases, the departure diameter and the departure time increase, and the waiting time decreases. But the asymptotic growth rate is not affected by the wall superheat change. The effect of the wall superheat is resolved into the suggested growth equation. Dimensionless parameters of time and bubble radius characterize the thermal growth behavior well, irrespective of wall condition. The comparison between the result of this study and the previous results shows a good agreement at the thermal growth region. The quantitative analysis for the heat transfer mechanism is conducted with the measured heat flow rate behavior and the bubble growth behavior. The required heat flow rate for the volume change of the observed bubble is about twice as much as the instantaneous heat flow rate supplied from the wall.

In traditional electronic packages the die and the substrate are interconnected with fine wire. Wire bonding technology is limited to bond pads around the peripheral of the die. As the demand for I/O increases, there will be limitations with wire bonding technology. Flip chip technology eliminates the need for wire bonding by redistributing the bond pads over the entire surface of the die. Instead of wires, the die is attached to the substrate utilizing a direct solder connection. Although several steps and processes are eliminated when utilizing flip chip technology, there are several new problems that must be overcome. The main issue is the mismatch in the coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE) of the silicon die and the substrate. This mismatch will cause premature solder Joint failure. This issue can be compensated for by the use of an underfill material between the die and the substrate. Underfill helps to extend the working life of the device by providing environmental protection and structural integrity. Flux residues may interfere with the flow of underfill encapsulants causing gross solder voids and premature failure of the solder connection. Furthermore, flux residues may chemically react with the underfill polymer causing a change in its mechanical and thermal properties. As flip chip packages decrease in size, cleaning becomes more challenging. While package size continues to decrease, the total number of 1/0 continue to increase. As the I/O increases, the array density of the package increases and as the array density increases, the pitch decreases. If the pitch is decreasing, the standoff is also decreasing. This paper will present the keys to successful flip chip cleaning processes. Process parameters such as time, temperature, solvency, and impingement energy required for successful cleaning will be addressed. Flip chip packages will be cleaned and subjected to JEDEC level 3 testing, followed by accelerated stress testing. The devices will then be analyzed using acoustic microscopy and the results and conclusions reported.
This study was performed numerical analysis in order to analyze liquid film flow of heat exchanger tube arrangement and configuration of evaporative multi effect distillation system using medium-temperature. Simulation was accomplished the two-dimensional calculations using commercial analyses program FLUENT based on the FVM(finite volume method). Fresh water generator of this study used Shell & Tubes heat exchanger with Cu_Ni tube, configuration of tube used bare tube and corrugated tube, and arrangement of tube used in-line array and staggered array. Performance of heat exchanger through the formation of liquid film was compared and analyzed. Liquid film flow occurred that falling on heat exchanger tube wall. Result of simulation showed that liquid film thickness of in-line arrangement was found 0.57mm with bare tube and 0.67mm with corrugated tube, respectively. And liquid film thickness of staggered arrangement was found 0.39mm with bare tubes and 0.62mm with corrugated tubes, respectively. Liquid film thickness of corrugated tube showed thicker than bare tube, but heat transfer rates of corrugated tube showed higher than bare tube. The reason was considered that surface area of corrugated tube was wider than bare tube. And liquid film thickness of staggered arrangement showed thinner than in-line arrangement, so thermal performance of staggered arrangement showed higher than in-line arrangement.
