Analysis of Soil Contamination by Phthalate Ester around Tributaries to the Han River (한강지류 하천 주변 토양의 Phthalate ester 오염 분석)

  • Phthalate esters are used as additives in plastics to improve mechanical properties, particularly flexibility. The contamination of soil samples by phthalate esters around four tributaries to the nm river was analyzed based on gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). All soil samples collected from the four tributaries, which include Anyangcheon and Seohocheon (expected polluted areas), and Gapyeongcheon and Namhan river (expected clean areas), were found to be contaminated by his(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP). Soil around Anyangcheon was the most contaminated (113 ppb), about twofold higher than the ones around Seohpcheon (64 ppb), Gapyeongcheon and Namhan river (50 ppb). Based on the fact that DEHP contamination in sediments of the river tributaries around the country is as high as 2.04 ppm, it was concluded that DEHP contamination of the soils around the tributaries to the Han river is relatively low.

Small-Signal Modeling of Gate-All-Around (GAA) Junctionless (JL) MOSFETs for Sub-millimeter Wave Applications

  • In this paper, we present the radio-frequency (RF) modeling for gate-all-around (GAA) junctionless (JL) MOSFETs with 30-nm channel length. The presented non-quasi-static (NQS) model has included the gate-bias-dependent components of the source and drain (S/D) resistances. RF characteristics of GAA junctionless MOSFETs have been obtained by 3-dimensional (3D) device simulation up to 1 THz. The modeling results were verified under bias conditions of linear region (VGS = 1 V, VDS = 0.5 V) and saturation region (VGS = VDS = 1 V). Under these conditions, the root-mean-square (RMS) modeling error of $Y_{22}$-parameters was calculated to be below 2.4%, which was reduced from a previous NQS modeling error of 10.2%.

A FEASIBILITY STUDY OF A NAVIER-STOKES FLOW SOLVER USING A KINETIC BGK SCHEME IN TRANSITIONAL REGIME (Kinetic BGK 기법을 이용한 Navier-Stokes 유동 해석자의 천이 영역 적용성 연구)

  • In the present study, a flow solver using a kinetic BGK scheme was developed for the compressible Navier-Stokes equation. The kinetic BGK scheme was used to simulate flow field from the continuum up to the transitional regime, because the kinetic BGK scheme can take into account the statistical properties of the gas particles in a non-equilibrium state. Various numerical simulations were conducted by the present flow solver. The laminar flow around flat plate and the hypersonic flow around hollow cylinder of flare shape in the continuum regime were numerically simulated. The numerical results showed that the flow solver using the kinetic BGK scheme can obtain accurate and robust numerical solutions. Also, the present flow solver was applied to the hypersonic flow problems around circular cylinder in the transitional regime and the results were validated against available numerical results of other researchers. It was found that the kinetic BGK scheme can similarly predict a tendency of the flow variables in the transitional regime.

Long Term Average Spectrum Characteristics of Head and Chest Register Sounds of Western Operatic Singers - Possibility of a Second Singer's Formant-

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze and compare head register with chest register of singers acoustically. Fifteen healthy tenor major students were participated. Fifteen healthy untrained adults were chosen as the control group for this study. Long term average (LTA) power spectrum using the Fast Fourier transform (FFT) algorithm and Linear predictive coding (LPC) filter response were made with /a/ sustained in both head (G4, 392 Hz) and chest registers (C3, 131 Hz). Statistical analysis was performed using the Mann-Whitney test. In the LTA power spectrum, head register of singers increased in the level of energy gain within the frequency of 2.2-3.4 kHz (p<0.01), and 7.5-8.4 kHz (p<0.01, p<0.05). Chest register of singers increased in the frequency of 2.2-3.1 kHz (p<0.01), 7.8-8.4 kHz (p<0.05) and around 9.6 kHz (p<0.01). The LTA power spectrum revealed a peak of acoustic energy around 2,500 Hz, known as the singer's formant and another peak of acoustic energy around 8,000 Hz in the singer's voice.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the response of periradicular tissues to amalgam, IRM, Ketac-silver and MTA(Mineral trioxide aggregate) used as a root end fillings. The lower third and fourth premolars of 5 mongrel dogs were used. Each root was resected, followed by root end fillings with experimental materials. The animals were sacrificed after 16 weeks and radiographic and histologic results were evaluated. The results were as follows : 1. Severe inflammation around apex and disruption of cortical were noted in relation to the amalgam. 2. With IRM, there was severe infiltration of inflammatory cells around filling material, but healing of cortical bone was noted. 3. With Ketac-silver, mild inflammation and thick band of fibrous connetive tissue around filling material were seen, with a cortical bone healing. 4. In case of MTA, complete regeneration of cortical bone was seen, and free MTA was surrounded with newly formed bone tissue.

  • Introduction: This study examined the effect of cyclosporine A (CsA) on the allogenic cranial bone graft in the mice. Materials and Methods: Twenty eight 12-week-old male ICR mice weighing 40 g were used. The experimental group was injected subcutaneously with CsA (10 mg/kg/day) diluted in Caster oil for 7 days prior to the graft until sacrifice. The control group was injected with the same solution without CsA. Two full-thickness bone defects with a diameter of 3 mm were made with a trephine bur in the parietal bone lateral to the sagittal suture. A calvarial defect of a mouse was grafted with allogenic calvarial bone disc from another mouse. The experimental and control groups were injected with CsA and the solution without CsA in the same manner before surgery, respectively. The mice were sacrificed at 1 week, 2 weeks and 4 weeks after the bone graft, respectively. Results: In the experimental group, fibrous connective tissues and small amounts of inflammatory cells were observed. At 2 weeks after the allograft in the experimental group, new bone formation in fibrous collagenous tissue and around the allogenic bone was noted. At 4 weeks after the allograft, new bone formation was active along and at the periphery of the mature allogenic bone. The proliferation of blood vessels increased in bone marrow. In the control group, fibrous tissues and inflammatory cells were observed around the allogenic bone and existing bone at 1 week. At 2 weeks after the allograft, the proliferation of blood vessels accompanied by inflammatory cells were scattered in the fibrous connective tissues. New bone formation around the allogenic and existing bone could be observed. At 4 weeks after the allograft, inflammatory cells were severely infiltrated around the allogenic bone. Osteoclasts were scattered along the allogenic bone and induced bone resorption. Conclusion: These results suggest that the daily administration of CsA (10 mg/kg/day) induces efficient immunosuppression without serious complications, and this protocol might be useful for the experimental model of allogenic bone grafts.

Evaluation of Radio-Frequency Performance of Gate-All-Around Ge/GaAs Heterojunction Tunneling Field-Effect Transistor with Hetero-Gate-Dielectric by Mixed-Mode Simulation

  • In this work, the frequency response of gate-all-around (GAA) Ge/GaAs heterojunction tunneling field-effect transistor (TFET) with hetero-gate-dielectric (HGD) and pnpn channel doping profile has been analysed by technology computer-aided design (TCAD) device-circuit mixed-mode simulations, with comparison studies among ppn, pnpn, and HGD pnpn TFET devices. By recursive tracing of voltage transfer curves (VTCs) of a common-source (CS) amplifier based on the HGD pnpn TFET, the operation point (Q-point) was obtained at $V_{DS}=1V$, where the maximum available output swing was acquired without waveform distortion. The slope of VTC of the amplifier was 9.21 V/V (19.4 dB), which mainly resulted from the ponderable direct-current (DC) characteristics of HGD pnpn TFET. Along with the DC performances, frequency response with a small-signal voltage of 10 mV has been closely investigated in terms of voltage gain ($A_v$), unit-gain frequency ($f_{unity}$), and cut-off frequency ($f_T$). The Ge/GaAs HGD pnpn TFET demonstrated $A_v=19.4dB$, $f_{unity}=10THz$, $f_T=0.487$ THz and $f_{max}=18THz$.

Study on the transient flow induced by the windbreak transition regions in a railway subject to crosswinds

  • Due to the complex terrain around high-speed railways, the windbreaks were established along different landforms, resulting in irregular windbreak transition regions between different subgrade infrastructures (flat ground, cutting, embankment, etc). In this paper, the effect of a windbreak transition on the wind flow around railways subjected to crosswinds was studied. Wind tunnel testing was conducted to study the wind speed change around a windbreak transition on flat ground with a uniform wind speed inflow, and the collected data were used to validate a numerical simulation based on a detached eddy simulation method. The validated numerical method was then used to investigate the effect of the windbreak transition from the flat ground to cutting (the "cutting" is a railway subgrade type formed by digging down from the original ground) for three different wind incidence angles of 90°, 75°, and 105°. The deterioration mechanism of the flow fields and the reasons behind the occurrence of the peak wind velocities were explained in detail. The results showed that for the windbreak transition on flat ground, the impact was small. For the transition from the flat ground to the cutting, the influence was relatively large. The significant increase in the wind speeds was due to the right-angle structure of the windbreak transition, which resulted in sudden changes of the wind velocity as well as the direction. In addition, the height mismatch in the transition region worsened the protective effect of a typical windbreak.

The Analysis of a Neighborhood Center in the Urban Low-rise Residential Areas (도시 저층주거지의 생활권 중심 분석)

  • As a lifeway and social change, the neighborhood build up around elementary school based on Perry's Neighbourhood Unit becomes change. Elementary School does not function as a center of residents' activity or community any longer. Activities occurred near the school move to the community streets that many facilities are distributed to, while utilization of facilities near schools becomes lower. On the bases of the current states, this study aims to draw a practical neighborhood center of residential areas by case study. The research is being mainly about low-rise residential areas in Seoul which includes one elementary school at least. In order to deduct the center of neighborhood, the survey takes two steps. At the preliminary survey, conduct the observation and do an interview to investigate awareness and actual status. Also to analyze practical center, do a main survey about land value, pedestrian volume, distribution of public transit and facility density. The research result shows that there is another activated center street not nearby elementary school in every case. This study assumes that the neighborhood center is not limited around elementary school and could variously build up by circumstances. It has significance that we present a question about the traditional theory and also could be references of the future city maintenance in the long term.
