In this paper, a predictive maintenance of the robot trouble using the machine learning method, so called MT(Mahalanobis Taguchi), was studied. Especially, 'MD(Mahalanobis Distance)' was used to compare the robot arm motion difference between before the maintenance(bearing change) and after the maintenance. 6-axies vibration sensor was used to detect the vibration sensing during the motion of the robot arm. The results of the comparison, MD value of the arm motions of the after the maintenance(bearing change) was much lower and stable compared to MD value of the arm motions of the before the maintenance. MD value well distinguished the fine difference of the arm vibration of the robot. The superior performance of the MT method applied to the prediction of the robot trouble was verified by this experiments.

Purpose : The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of upper extremity exercise and Bandage on the edema and range of motion. Complex decongestive physiotherapy was one of the latest methods to deal with the limitation of range of motion and the edema that were the prime problems of patients with lymphedema. Methods : Twenty patients undergone mastectomy were participated in this study voluntarily. They had lymphedema on upper extremity and partial limitation of range of motion. The subjects had been treated with upper extremity home exercise and complex decongestive physiotherapy with Bandage for 4 weeks. The measure of these patients with upper extremity edema was included: the volume, arm circumfenence and range of motion. These were measured two times: before the treatment, after 4 weeks of the treatment. Results : The upper extremity edema of patients treated home exercise group and complex decongestive physiotherapy group with Bandage was definitely decreased (p<0.05). Moreover, the upper volume of those who were the same condition also significantly shrank and patients' arm circumferences of upper arm breathtakingly diminished as well (p<0.05). But home exercise group patients' arm circumferences of forearm was not remarkable(p>0.05). However, patients' range of motion who were treated with upper extremity exercise were evidently increased when compared to that of the before treatment (p<0.05). Conclusion : Complex decongestive physiotherapy and bandage performed by physical therapist increased the ROM of upper arm and reduced the edema in patients with lymphedema.
This study used a three-dimensional-analysis method to quantitatively analyze the change of clothing appearance according to a gusset added to bodice and sleeve patterns for men in their twenties. Comparing six different patterns, the study found that patterns P1 and P2 with little gusset did not have a large difference in the strain map, and pattern P6 had no gusset in the motion of raising the arm $28^{\circ}$ to the side (M1). When the arm was raised $45^{\circ}$ to the side (M2), the P1 pattern had the smallest deformation, and only the P5 pattern had a large deformation from the neck to the armhole area. In contrast, except for in the P3 pattern, large wrinkles formed in the front and back when the arm was raised above $158^{\circ}$ (M3) from the side of the waist to the armpit. In addition, P3 had the smallest change in the hem of the bodice and sleeves. However, the appearance of P2, P3, and P5 was excellent when the arm was moved forward (M4), and the P2 and P5 patterns were the smallest at the bodice and sleeve hem. The P6 pattern showed the least fitness in terms of function. In the case of raising the arm, there was a strong correlation between gusset size and motion function, but when the motion of the arm changed, the motion function did not improved just by changing the ease size.
Background: The purpose of this study is to assess the range of shoulder motion using an indirect evaluation method without physical examinations of patients based on questionnaires regarding several specific arm postures referenced by patient's own body parts. Methods: Nine criteria of specific shoulder motion including 4 forward flexion, 2 external rotation, and 3 internal rotation were decided as reference position which can represent a certain shoulder motion. Flexion contains postures such as lifting arm to waist-height, shoulder-height, eye-height, and raising arm above head with arm touching ears. External rotation comprises grasping ears and placing hands on back of the head. Vertebral height in internal rotation is determined by calculating the samples' motions, which are holding on to trouser belts, opposite-elbow, and scapula. These postures are included in questionnaires for patients to evaluate the validity and effectiveness of this indirect method. Results: The range of flexion was $77^{\circ}$ ($60^{\circ}$ to $100^{\circ}$), $96^{\circ}$ ($87^{\circ}$ to $115^{\circ}$), $135^{\circ}$ ($115^{\circ}$ to $150^{\circ}$), and $167^{\circ}$ ($150^{\circ}$ to $175^{\circ}$) when arms go up to waist, shoulder, eye, and high vertically. Range of external rotation was $39.6^{\circ}$ ($30^{\circ}$ to $50^{\circ}$) when grasping ears and $69.2^{\circ}$ ($60^{\circ}$ to $80^{\circ}$) with the hands on the back of the head. Range of internal rotation was L4 when placing trouser belts, T12 for holding opposite elbow, and T9 for reaching scapula. The mismatch rates of flexion, external rotation, and internal rotation were 11.6%, 9.6%, and 7.8%. Conclusions: The range of shoulder motion using this method is expected to be applied to an established shoulder scoring system which included shoulder motion evaluation item.

In this paper, a muscle motion sensing system and an artificial arm control system are studied. The artificial arm is for the people who lost one's forearm. The muscle motion sensing system detect the intention of motion from the upper arm's muscle. In sensing system we use flex sensors which is electrical resistance type sensor. The sensor is attached on the biceps brachii muscle and coracobrachialis muscle of the upper arm. We propose an algorithm to classify the one's intention of motions from the sensor signal. Using this algorithm, we extract the 4 motions which are flexion and extension of the forearm, pronation and supination of the arm. To verify the validity of the proposed algorithms we made experiments with two d.o.f. artificial arm. To reduce the control errors of the artificial arm we also proposed a fuzzy PID control algorithm which based on the errors and error rate.

This paper presents the kinematic and dynamic analysis of the robot arm for inspection and rescue operations. The inspection robot arm has Pitch-Pitch-Pitch-Yaw motion for an optimal and stable view of the camera installed at the end of the manipulator. The rescue operation robot arm has Yaw-Pitch-Pitch-Roll motion to handle heavy tools. Additionally, both robot arms are waterproof, as they use the triple-layer O-ring. Furthermore, the dynamic equation including the damping force due to the mechanical seal for waterproofness was derived by using the Newton-Euler method. A control system using the ARM processor was developed and introduced in this paper, and its performance was verified through experiments.
The purpose of this study is grasp the problem of the gymnast, Kim, Dong-Hwa's Kip to Swallow Motion in Rings, and make up for the weak points to help him to perform a better performance. Therefore, two tryouts for $28^{th}$ Athens Olympic Games were filmed using video camera then finalized with Kinematical Analysis using 3D motion analysis program followings are the form of conclusions. 1. In the very first tryout, when he was doing a Swallow Support Scale, his CM position was high and arm slope was deduction because when he was doing Kip, the ascent velocity was low and he tried excessively to pull him on rings due to relying upon angular movement of shoulder joint. 2. When he was doing drop, he let his hip angle bend only little bit and let fall so making shoulder angle wider and maintain the level horizontally occurs strong drop motion when vertical descent is happening. 3. As a result, lowering the direction of a kick makes CM's movement path lower, increase vertical ascent velocity, and it helps to do the Swallow Support motion in short period of time. 4. After a strong drop motion, which is deep and fast, would make rope of ring shake so there is a defect that the body moves to forward area. However, it does not effect in Swallow Support Scale motion. 5. In the second tryout, trunk rotation angle and arm slope was fixed decrease while doing rotary motion. When rotary motion was happening, before the body was going under the rings, maintained his arm slope horizontally so his Swallow Support Scale motion was nearly perfect.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of passive upper arm exercise on range of motion, muscle strength, and muscle spasticity in hemiplegic patients with cerebral vascular disease. Methods: A quasi-experimental design with nonequivalent control group was utilized. According to inclusion criteria, 25 patients were assigned to the control group with routine care, followed by 25 to the intervention group with passive exercise for 30 minutes per session, twice a day for 2 weeks. Eighteen patients in the intervention group and 17 in the control group completed the posttest measurement, including range of motion for upper arm joints, manual muscle test, and Modified Ashworth Scale for muscle spasticity. Results: The intervention group had a significantly improved range of motion in the shoulder and wrist joints. No interaction effect was found for the elbow joint. No significant differences were found in muscle strength or muscle spasticity between the groups. Conclusion: Results of the study indicate that passive exercise safely applied for two weeks improves range of motion in joints of the upper arm in these patients. Further study with long-term follow-up is needed to verify the role of passive exercise in preventing muscle spasticity in this population.
In our previous work using a motion analyzer and 3-dimensional sonic digitizer, the arm shapes for 23 women in their early twenties were classified into three characteristic types. In order to design sleeves, suitable for arm movements for the three characteristic arm shapes, a relationship between arm length variation and shoulder/elbow angles has been investigated for four cases of arm movements (flexion, extension, adduction and abduction). Each arm movement can be characterized by the changes in shoulder angle and the changes in elbow angle at the maximal shoulder angle. In all the four cases of arm movements, the changes of shoulder length and cap height are largest at the maximal shoulder angle. These changes were little affected by changes in elbow angle. The changes in the lower arm length and the difference between cap height and upper arm length are the largest at the maximal elbow angle of the maximal shoulder angle. There is a linear relationship between cap height and shoulder angle during arm movements; thus, in designing sleeves the cap height can be determined from the regression of cap height vs. shoulder angle.
