  • Construction victims have increased year by year. Disaster proportion is also increasing continuously. Looking over the causes of disasters by each type of work, fall from working platform indicate the highest rate above all so that it is urgently required to set up safety measures. This study is to grasp the present status of construction accidents, to identify areal characteristics of the top 20% accidents on the basis of working platforms with the highest accident rate, to grasp the causes of accidents after their analyses, and to present methods to reduce casualties related to working platforms. As measures to reduce construction disasters, this study proposes to improve safety management and training on working platforms, to complement safety regulations, and to better performance including the development and expansion of certified products suitable for safety regulations.

  • By analyzing the concurrent rainfall data from rainfall gauges positioned in the Youngsan River basin, the areal reduction factors related to the rainfall characteristics of the Youngsan River basin are estimated. The estimated values are compared with the values of the Han River basin, and show that the rate of decrease of the areal reduction factors of the Youngsan River basin are smaller than those of the Han River basin as the basin area is increasing. That is especially true for short-term duration storm events. These findings reveal that the spatial variations in the Youngsan River basin's storms are smaller than the spatial variations of the storms In the Han River basin, due to the size of the two basin areas in addition to the topological characteristics that affect the rainfall distributions.

  • This study was conducted to obtain basic information on growth characteristics and major components of three Korean endemic resource plant species, Artemisia sp., Gynostemma pentaphyllum Makino and Humulus japonicus S. et Z. , growing in different areas in Korea. Three geographical types of artemisia, namely Pangssuk, Ongjinssuk and Yakssuk which were collect in Suwon, Ongjin and Eumsong, respectively were compared in yield, and Pangssuk artemisia was higher in yield than the others. However, essential oil content was the highest in Yakssuk artemisia. Dry weight of areal parts of G. pentaphyllum was higher in the cultural method with props for tendril growth than in the conventional cultural method without props. Rutin was detected in areal parts of G. pentaphyllum. Dry weight of areal parts of H. japonicus collected at the Kyeryong mountain in Chungnam province was higher than that collected in Eumsong. A phenolic compound isoquercitrin was detected in areal parts of H. japonicus.

  • Essential ideas, successes, and difficulties of Areal Density Analysis (ADA) for color-magnitude diagrams (CMD's) of resolved stellar populations are examined, with explanation of various algorithms and strategies for optimal performance. A CMD-generation program computes theoretical datasets with simulated observational error and a solution program inverts the problem by the method of Differential Corrections (DC) so as to compute parameter values from observed magnitudes and colors, with standard error estimates and correlation coefficients. ADA promises not only impersonal results, but also significant saving of labor, especially where a given dataset is analyzed with several evolution models. Observational errors and multiple star systems, along with various single star characteristics and phenomena, are modeled directly via the Functional Statistics Algorithm (FSA). Unlike Monte Carlo, FSA is not dependent on a random number generator. Discussions include difficulties and overall requirements, such as need for fast evolutionary computation and realization of goals within machine memory limits. Degradation of results due to influence of pixelization on derivatives, Initial Mass Function (IMF) quantization, IMF steepness, low Areal Densities ($\mathcal{A}$), and large variation in $\mathcal{A}$ are reduced or eliminated through a variety of schemes that are explained sufficiently for general application. The Levenberg-Marquardt and MMS algorithms for improvement of solution convergence are contained within the DC program. An example of convergence, which typically is very good, is shown in tabular form. A number of theoretical and practical solution issues are discussed, as are prospects for further development.

  • In this study, we calculated the fixed-type Areal Reduction Factor (ARF) of the Hancheon River basin in Jeju Island, and compared the calculated ARF and the ARF of the four major river basins suggested by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport. As a result, the maximum fluctuation ratios of ARF for the four major river basins calculated using area, frequency, and initial duration time were significant: 7.61% for the Hangang River basin; 12.69% for the Nakdonggang River basin; 8.09% for the Kumgang River basin; and 17.98% for the Yeongsangang River basin. In addition, the differences between the maximum and minimum value of ARF for the Hancheon River basin based on 48 hours was 2.13%, and it was smaller than the one for the four major river basins: 8.92% for the Hangang River basin; 11.41% for the Nakdonggang River basin; 8.87% for the Kumgang River basin; and 17.17% for the Yeongsangang River basin. The Yeongsangang River basin had the highest difference.

  • To improve the accuracy of the areal rainfall estimates over a river basin, the optimal design method of rainfall network was studied using the stochastic characteristics of measured rainfall data. The objective function was constructed with the estimation error of areal rainfall and observation cost of point rainfall and the observation sites with minimum objective function value were selected as the optimal network. As a stochastic variance estimator, kriging model was selected to minimize the error terms. The annual operation cost including the installation cost was considered as the cost terms and an accuracy equivalent parameter was used to combine the error and cost terms. The optimal design method of rainfall network was studied in the Yongdam dam basin whose raingauge numbers need to be enlarged for the optimal rainfall networks of the basin.

  • Due to the complexity of spatial interaction and the necessity of spatial representation and modeling, aggregation of spatial interaction data is indispensible. Given this, the purpose of this paper is to evaluate the effects of modifiable areal unit problem (MAUP) on a spatial interaction model. Four aggregation schemes are utilized at eight different scales: 1) randomly select seeds of district and then allocate basic spatial units to them, 2) minimize the sum of population weighted distance within a district, 3) maximize the proportion of flow within a district, and 4) minimize the proportion of flow within a district. A simple Poisson regression model with origin and destination constraints is utilized. Analysis results demonstrate that spatial characteristics of residuals, parameter values, and goodness-of-fit of the model were influenced by aggregation scale and schemes. Overall, the model responded more sensitively to aggregation scale than aggregation schemes and the scale effect on the model was varied according to aggregation schemes.

  • We try to distribute air pollution sources at target area. The complex method is used to distribute air pollution sources. Most of people, However, want to simple indicator as standard for express air pollution source. In many area, air pollution is caused by different types of sources. The general type is point source, such as tall stack of power plants and oil refineries stacks. A second type is areal source, such as local industry and transportation. In this aspect, the ratio of sulfur dioxide to nitrogen oxides (RSN =SO$_2$/NOx)is an indicator of air pollution source. the role of this ratio is to show the characteristics at target area of the relationship the point and the areal source. • Delamination of cover concrete due to re-bar corrosion is a critical damage reducing structural safety of reinforced concrete structures. Therefore, it should be detected and evaluated to provide appropriate maintenance to recover structural integrity. Impact-echo method, which utilizes thickness vibration characteristics of delaminated concrete section, is effective for detection and evaluation of small areal size delamination. However, it may not be applicable for large areal size delamination in which flexural vibration modes are dominated. In this study, applicability of vibration mode shapes of delaminated concrete section is investigated for visualization of delamination region in concrete structures. Numerical and experimental modal tests are performed to estimate mode shapes of delaminated concrete section and linear absolute summation technique is proposed for effective visualization of delamination region based on estimated mode shapes.

  • We proposed a new Mercury-free Flat Fluorescent Lamp (MFFL) for LCD backlight which shows a wide, stable operating voltage margin, high luminance and efficiency. In this paper, we expanded the single cell with 4 inch diagonal size into the multi-cell for the large size LCD-TV backlight application, examined its operating characteristics and proposed a driving scheme for 2-bit areal selective dimming control.
