  • Recently, as flash memory is used as digital storage devices, necessity for digital forensics is growing in a flash memory area for digital evidence analysis. For this purpose, it is important to recover crashed files stored on flash memory efficiently. However, it is inefficient to apply the hard disk based file recovery techniques to flash memory, since hard disk and flash memory have different characteristics, especially flash memory being unable to in-place update. In this paper, we propose a flash-aware file recovery technique for digital forensics. First, we propose an efficient search technique to find all crashed files. This uses meta-data maintained by FTL(Flash Translation Layer) which is responsible for write operation in flash memory. Second, we advise an efficient recovery technique to recover a crashed file which uses data location information of the mapping table in FTL. Through diverse experiments, we show that our file recovery technique outperforms the hard disk based technique.

  • Recently high dynamic range imaging technique is hot issue in computer graphic area. We present a progressive tone mapping algorithm, which is based on weighted least squares optimization framework. Our approach combines weighted leastsquaresfiltering with iCAM06, for showing more perceptual high dynamic range images in conventional display, while avoiding visual halo artifacts. We decompose high dynamic range image into base layer and detail layer. The base layer has large scale variation, it is obtained by using weighted least squares filtering, and then the base layer incorporates iCAM06 model. Then, adaptive compression on the base layer according to human visual system. Only the base layer reduces contrast, and preserving detail. The resultshows more perceptual color appearance and preserve fine detail, while avoiding common artifacts.

  • In this study a new simplified three-dimensional numerical method and the associated computer program have been developed to simulate the non-axisymmetric extrusion processes. The two-dimensional rigid-plastic finite element method under the generalized plane-strain condition, is combined with the slab method. To define the die geometry for non-axisymmetric extrusion, area mapping technique was used. Streamlined die surface was used to miniminze the total extrusion pressure. Extrusion of square, hexagonal and "T" section from round billet have been simulated and experimented with a model material. The computed results were in good agreement with the experiments in cross-sectional grid distortion. Computational results will be valuable for designing tool geometries and corresponding processes.

  • This study presents the use of multi-temporal JERS-1 SAR images to the land cover classification. So far, land cover classified by high resolution aerial photo and field survey and so on. The study site was located in Non-san area. This study developed on multi-temporal land cover status monitoring and coherence information mapping can be processing by L band SAR image. From July, 1997 to October, 1998 JERS SAR images (9 scenes) coherence values are analyzed and then classified land cover. This technique which forms the basis of what is called SAR Interferometry or InSAR for short has also been employed in spaceborne systems. In such systems the separation of the antennas, called the baseline is obtained by utilizing a single antenna in a repeat pass

  • Electron microscopy is currently the only available technique with a spatial resolution sufficient to identify fine neuronal processes and synaptic structures in densely packed neuropil. For large-scale volume reconstruction of neuronal connectivity, serial block-face scanning electron microscopy allows us to acquire thousands of serial images in an automated fashion and reconstruct neural circuits faster by reducing the alignment task. Here we introduce the whole reconstruction procedure of synaptic network in the rat hippocampal CA1 area and discuss technical issues to be resolved for improving image quality and segmentation. Compared to the serial section transmission electron microscopy, serial block-face scanning electron microscopy produced much reliable three-dimensional data sets and accelerated reconstruction by reducing the need of alignment and distortion adjustment. This approach will generate invaluable information on organizational features of our connectomes as well as diverse neurological disorders caused by synaptic impairments.

  • Solid and hazardous waste disposal site selection by using GIS(Geographic Information System) is the purpose of this study. The criteria of site selection are usually defined in accordance with geological, cultural and social characteristics. Unadequate adaptation of these criteria in a site selection may cause serious problem of water and soil pollution. The environmental information for extraction of these criteria consist of a lot of data : geology, geomorphology, hydrogeology, engineering geology, cultural and social information.... GIS could be easily applied to construct of this environmental information data base, and carry out cartography simulation using overlay mapping technique(polygon overlay). ARC/INFO(GIS system) was used for these studies, and AML(ARC/INFO Macro Language) in this system provided more variable and effective methods for cartography simulation. TM(Thematic Mapper) images were used for the evaluation of land cover/use in the studied area, by using ERDAS image processing system.

  • In this paper, we newly propose a traffic information service model that collects traffic information sensed by an individual vehicle in real time by using a smart device, and which enables drivers to share traffic information on all roads in real time using an application installed on a smart device. In particular, when the driver requests traffic information for a specific area, the proposed driver-personalized service model provides him/her with traffic information on the driving directions in advance by predicting the driving directions of the vehicle based on the learning of the driving records of each driver. To do this, we propose a traffic information management model to process and manage in real time a large amount of online-generated traffic information and traffic information requests generated by each vehicle. We also propose a road node-based indexing technique to efficiently store and manage location-based traffic information provided by each vehicle. Finally, we propose a driving learning and prediction model based on the hidden Markov model to predict the driving directions of each driver based on the driver's driving records. We analyze the traffic information processing performance of the proposed model and the accuracy of the driving prediction model using traffic information collected from actual driving vehicles for the entire area of Seoul, as well as driving records and experimental data.

  • The ability of remote sensing and GIS technique, which used to provide valuable informations in the time and space domain, has been known to be very useful in providing permanent records by mapping and monitoring flooded area. In 2000, floods were at the worst stage of devastation in Tonle Sap Lake, Mekong River Basin, for the second time in records during July and October. In this study, Landsat ETM+ and RADARSAT imagery were used to obtain the basic information on computation of the inundation area and volume using ISODATA classifier and segmentation technique. However, the extracted inundatton area showed only a small fraction than the actually inundated area because of clouds in the imagery and complex ground conditions. To overcome these limitations, the cost-distance method of GIS was used to estimate the inundated area at the peak level by integrating the inundated area from satellite imagery in corporation with digital elevation model (DEM). The estimated inundation area was simply converted with the inundation volume using GIS. The inundation volume was compared with the volume based on hydraulic modeling with MIKE 11. which is the most poppular among the dynamic river modeling system. The method is suitable for estimating inundation volume even when Landsat ETM+ has many clouds in the imagery.

  • Generally, the latest acquisition method of geo-spatial informations in urban area is executed by generation of digital elevation model (DEM) and digital ortho image by digital photogrammetry method which is used large scale photo image. However, the biggest problem of this method is coarse accuracy of DEM which is automatically generated by digital photogrammetry workstation system. The coarse accuracy of DEM caused geo-spatial information in urban area to reduce of accuracy. Therefore, this study is purposed to increase of DEM accuracy which is applied to method terrain classification in urban area. As the results of this study, the proposed method of this study which is increased to accuracy of DEM by classification of terrain is better than accuracy of DEM which is automatically generated by digital photogrammetry workstaion system. And, the edge detection method which is proposed by this study is established to capability of 3D digital mapping in urban area.
