  • It is very hard to find out water mill and water mill house installed nearby a streamlet to use water to polish cereals by pounding like a visage of its old days. It plays an important part in folkloric, hydrographical and architectural aspects as important folklore material in Korea. The purpose of this study is to analyse the folkloric, hydrographical and architectural features of water-mill and water-mill house itself so that to find the way how to build and fabricate the materials and frame members. Therefore this study has been focused on the composition principle and fabrication method of water mill and water millhouse on the side of architecture.

  • Recently, component-based development (CBD) is rapidly spreading as a way of improving the reusability, productivity, and quality of software. For CBD to be effective in achieving such design objectives, the creation and integration of components must be based on a well-defined architecture that guides the correct composition and cooperation of application components. Software architecture must be described using an architecture description language (ADL) to ensure the correctness and preciseness of architecture models. In this paper, we propose the system architecture of an ADL tool set that can effectively support the use of CBD based on the domain architecture and we describe each component of the proposed system architecture. We also modify and redefine C2SADL that was developed to support the use of the description of C2 architectural style by UCI (University of California in Irvine) to facilitate the integration of separately described architecture models, and introduce the method of design and implementation of our ADL processor that partially implements the proposed ADL system architecture.

  • An initial approach for the identification of physical causes underlying the spatial coherency of seismic ground motions it presented. The approach relies on the observation that amplitude and phase variability of seismic data recorded over extended areas around the amplitude and phase of a common, coherent component are correlated. It suffices then to examine the physical causes for the amplitude variability in the seismic motions, in order to recognize the causes for the phase variability and, consequently, the spatial coherency. In this study, the effect of randomness in the shear wave velocity at a site on the amplitude variability of the surface motions mi investigated by means of simulations. The amplitude variability of the simulated motions around the amplitude of the common component is contained within envelope functions, the shape of which suggests, on a preliminary basis, the trend of the decay of coherency with frequency.

  • Structures in seismic regions are designed to dissipate seismic energy input through inelastic deformations. Structural or component failure occurs when the hysteretic energy demand for a structure or component subject to an earthquake ground motion (EQGM) exceeds its hysteretic energy dissipation capacity. This paper presents a study on identifying the hysteretic energy demand and distribution throughout the height of regular steel moment resisting frames (SMRFs) subject to severe EQGMs. For this purpose, non-linear dynamic time history (NDTH) analyses were carried out on regular low-, medium-, and high-rise steel SMRFs. An ensemble of ninety EQGMs recorded on different soil types was used in the study. The results show that the hysteretic energy demand decreases from the bottom stories to the upper stories and for high-rise structures, most of the hysteretic energy is dissipated by the bottom stories. The decrease is quite significant, especially, for medium- and high-rise structures.

  • Corrosion of prestressed concrete structures is one of the main challenges that engineers face today. In response to this national need, this paper presents the results of a long-term project that aims at developing a structural health monitoring (SHM) technology for the nondestructive evaluation of prestressed structures. In this paper, the use of permanently installed low profile piezoelectric transducers (PZT) is proposed in order to record the acoustic emissions (AE) along the length of the strand. The results of an accelerated corrosion test are presented and k-means clustering is applied via principal component analysis (PCA) of AE features to provide an accurate diagnosis of the strand health. The proposed approach shows good correlation between acoustic emissions features and strand failure. Moreover, a clustering technique for the identification of false alarms is proposed.

  • Service provision and consumption platforms are more and more used to enable communication between sensors, actuators and intelligent devices, since they provide mechanisms that make possible the combination of components to create composed services. However, these kinds of platforms have limitations to adapt themselves to new and unknown devices. In this work we analyze the challenge of component or bundle communication by using the Open Services Gateway Initiative (OSGi) technology and we propose three mechanisms with the aim of contributing to flexible component communication: Common Service, Specific Service and WSIF Web Service Invocation. We provide these solutions with some architectural models and validate them through different example services. Finally we compare them regarding performance, flexibility and application complexity.

  • Development of Web service application requires the interoperability between various heterogeneous systems, extensibility to allow modification of business environment not of user interface, maintainability, flexibility and reusability As the properties of CBD (Component Based Development) have gradually become clear, attention has started to turn the smooth technology and methodology to solve the existing problems and issues the dynamic responds for the distributed web environments. In this paper, we identify some of the major architectural affecting CBD and describe the Design and Implementation of Security Framework for Application Server with Components. We identify the candidate components, model it using UML and layer it on the architecture. The frameworks will Provide the various security functions, such as incorporating with legacy security systems, supporting of J2EE, JAAS and Kerberos and assisting in increasing the tailorability of component.

  • In this paper, a systematic approach of developing detail 00 designs from Component-and-Connector Architectures (CCAs) is proposed. In this approach, an intermediate model between the architecture model and the detail design model specified with class diagrams or sequence diagrams is introduced to narrow the wide gap between the two abstraction levels. Once a CCA is designed, candidate classes and their relationships are identified per each architectural element. In order to show the efficacy of this approach, we apply it to an industry software development project and verify that quality attributes supported by the CCA are equally maintained by the detail design.

  • Various hybrid dampers have been developed in Korea to control the vibration due to a wind and earthquake. In order to minimize the installment space, cost and construction process, the new hybrid friction damper is developed. This hybrid damper is composed of several rotary friction components having two frictional joint. Because of these components, the building vibration due to wind and earthquake can be mitigated by hybrid friction damper. In this paper, various dependency tests were carried out to evaluate on the structural performance of two joint rotational friction component of the hybrid damper. Test results show that two joint rotational components do not depend on a displacement and a frequency of forcing but friction coefficients is reducing as a clamping force is increasing.
