  • In this paper, we present a new combined field integral equation (CFIE) formulation for the analysis of electromagnetic scattering from arbitrarily shaped three-dimensional perfectly conducting and piecewise homogeneous dielectric composite body. The conducting/dielectric structures are approximated by planar triangular patches, which have the ability to conform to any geometrical surface. The surface covering the conducting body is replaced by an equivalent surface electric current and the surface of the dielectric by equivalent electric and magnetic currents. The all equivalent currents are approximated in terms of RWG (Rao, Wilton, Glisson) functions. The objective of this paper is to illustrate that the CFIE is a valid methodology in removing defects, which occur at a frequency corresponding to an internal resonance of the structure. Numerical results are presented and compared with solutions obtained using other formulations.

Deformation of a rectangular plate with an arbitrarily located circular hole under in-plane pure shear loading

  • Exact solutions for stresses, strains, displacements, and the stress concentration factors of a rectangular plate perforated by an arbitrarily located circular hole subjected to in-plane pure shear loading are investigated by two-dimensional theory of elasticity using the Airy stress function. The hoop stresses, strains, and displacements occurring at the edge of the circular hole are computed and plotted. Comparisons are made for the hoop stresses and the stress concentration factors from the present study and those from a rectangular plate with a circular hole under uni-axial and bi-axial uniform tensions and in-plane pure bending moments on two opposite edges.

  • 본 논문에서는 유전체로 코팅된 3차원 임의 형상 도체의 전자파 산란 문제를 해석할 수 있는 결합적분방정식 (combined field integral equation, CFIE)의 해법을 제안한다. 본 논문의 목적은 구조물의 내부 공진주파수에서도 CFIE로부터 안정된 해를 얻을 수 있음을 보이는 것이다. 유전체로 코팅된 도체 구조에 대하여 제안된 방법으로 계산된 레이더 단면적(radar cross section, RCS)을 보이고 다른 방법에 의한 해들과 비교한다.

  • High Integration ratio of CMOS circuits incredily increases the test cost during the design and fabrication processes because of the FET fault(Stuck-on faults and Stuck-off faults) which are due to the operational characteristics of CMOS circuits. This paper proposes a test generation algorithm for an arbitrarily large CMOS circuit, which can unify the test steps during the design and fabrication procedure and be applied to both static and dynaic circuits. This algorithm uses the logic equations set for the subroutines resulted from arbitrarily dividing the full circuit hierarchically or horizontally. Also it involves a driving procedure from output stage to input stage, in which to drive a test set corresponding to a subcircuit, only the subcircuits connected to that to be driven are used as the driving resource. With this algorithm the test cost for the large circuit such as VLSI can be reduced very much.

  • Many analysis methods, including finite element method, have been suggested and used for assessing the integrity of cracked structures. In the paper, in order to analyze arbitrarily shaped three dimensional cracks in an infinite body, the finite element alternating method is extended. The cracks are modeled as a distribution of displacement discontinuities by the displacement discontinuity method and the symmetric Galerkin boundary element method. Applied the proposed method to several example problems for planner cracks in finite bodies, the accuracy and efficiency of the method were demonstrated.

  • 임의 모양의 완전도체의 전자파 산란을 해석하기 위하여 모멘트 방법을 이용하였다. GID(Graphic Interface Design)툴을 이용하여 설계된 금속 도체의 표면은 서로 다른 모양의 삼각패치로 모델링 되었다. 도체 표면전류는 삼각패치의 벡터 기저함수로 확장되었다. 관측점과 전원점이 동일 삼각패치에 위치할 때, 삼각패치의 특이점 적분은 Duffy 방법을 이용하여 특이점이 없는 적분으로 변환이 가능하였고, 변환된 특이점 항들은 1차원의 가우시안 구적법을 이용하여 간단하게 계산되어질 수 있었다. 특이점을 제외한 적분들은 2차원 가우시안 구적법으로 계산되었다.

  • A new method for free nitration analysis using series functions is proposed to obtain the eigenvalues of arbitrarily shaped, polygonal plates with clamped edges. Since a general solution used in the method satisfies the equation of motion for the transverse vibration of a plate, the method offers very accurate eigenvalues, compared to FEM or BEM results. In addition, the method can minimize the amount of numerical calculation because it has the advantage of not needing to divide the plate of interest. Two case studies show that the proposed method is valid and accurate when the eigenvalues by the proposed method are compared to those by FEM (NASTRAN) or another analytical method.

  • In this paper, we show that there exists no left invariant Riemannian metric h on the Heisenberg group H such that (H, h) is a symmetric Riemannian manifold, and there does not exist any H-invariant metric $\bar{h}$ on the Heisenberg manifold $H/{\Gamma}$ such that the Riemannian connection on ($H/{\Gamma},\bar{h}$) is a Yang-Mills connection. Moreover, we get necessary and sufficient conditions for a group homomorphism of (SU(2), g) with an arbitrarily given left invariant metric g into (H, h) with an arbitrarily given left invariant metric h to be a harmonic and an affine map, and get the totality of harmonic maps of (SU(2), g) into H with a left invariant metric, and then show the fact that any affine map of (SU(2), g) into H, equipped with a properly given left invariant metric on H, does not exist.

Anomalous Propagation Characteristics of an Airy Beam in Nonlocal Nonlinear Medium

  • The anomalous propagation characteristics of a single Airy beam in nonlocal nonlinear medium are investigated by utilizing the split-step Fourier-transform method. We show that besides the normal straight propagation trajectory, the breathing solitons formed by the interaction between Airy beam and nonlocal nonlinear medium can propagate along the sinusoidal trajectory, and the anomalous trajectory can be modulated arbitrarily by altering the initial amplitude and the nonlocal nonlinear coefficient. In addition, the initial amplitude and the nonlocal nonlinear coefficient can have inverse impacts on the formation and transformation of the equilibrium state of spatial solitons, when the two parameters are larger than certain values. Therefore, the reversible transformation of the evolution dynamics of two soliton states can be realized by adjusting those two parameters properly. Finally, it is shown that the propagation properties of the solitons formed by the interaction between Airy beam and nonlocal nonlinear medium can be controlled arbitrarily, by adjusting the distribution factor and nonlocal coefficient.

Robust Backstepping Control for Nonvanishing Parametrization$^1$

  • In this paper, a design method of a controller is presented for a class of nonlinear systems which have time-varying parametric uncertainly. Some features of this controller are that it can tackle 1) nonlinear parametrization(i.e. uncertain parameters enter the system in the nonlinear form) and 2) nonvanishing peturbation (i.e. uncertainty need not vanish at the origin). The class of systems considered in this paper has the triangular structure for which the well-known backstepping design can be applied. The uncertain parameter is assumed to be contained in the bounded set whose size can be arbitrarily large. Also, the uncertain system are globally uniformly bounded and converge to a compact set whose size is designable. In particular, the first state of the system can be made arbitrarily small, which can be seen by the presented simulation result.
