  • To provide observed oceanography data at coastal fish and shellfish farm in the northeastern sea of the Korean peninsula on real time base, we developed real time application system for fisheries oceanography information. The system has been made up a mooring buoy system, a server for oceanography data collection, a server for archiving data and a database system, and a web server for providing fisheries oceanography information using internet. Futhermore, to support letters service on a cellular phone, we developed the communication system from mooring buoy to cell phone on real time base. The oceanography data derived from the system are water temperature speed and direction of current in surface layer middle layer and bottom layer in hour. We were able to quantify short term variation of ocean conditions within several days at shellfish farm such as a scallop sea farm using our system. To reduce damages of fish and shellfish farm from abnormal phenomena of ocean conditions such as a broken stratification of water, an occurrence of abnormal coastal cold water and warm water we will be able to move vertically and horizontally the sea farm facilities to proper conditions using real time oceanography information derive from the system.

  • In order to improve oyster farming condition, estimation of food availability (CC) was carried out in Garorim Bay, Seosan, Korea. The primary production of the waters were ranged from 0.07 to $0.26gC/m^2/day$. A strong tendency was observed that the inner side of the bay was higher at primary production. Estimated food availability was ranged from 0.0424 to 1.655. Temporal shortage in food supply was observed at April with about 15% less than the oysters' requirement, which may be causative of spat mortality after introducing into the farms. Food availability was met the food demand during summer but significant shortage was also observed at after August, which may main causative of retarded oyster fattening in the waters. This study suggested that adjustment of cultural density may be necessary for the improved harvesting of the oyster.

  • Organic acid is made with carbonized organic acid that is produced from charcoal burning process. It is evaluated whether carbonized organic acid is able to removed Enteromorpha in the laboratory and Porphra aquaculture farm test. The optimum condition for Enteromorpha removal are revealed ten times dilution and ten second immersion. The mortality rate of Enteromorpha is $95\%$ and diatom-detaching rate is $100\%$ by the organic acid treatment. On the other hand, the mortality rate of Porphra is lower than $5%\$. It was measured that nitrogen was 0.175 mg/l and phosphorus was 0.0158 mg/l. Therefore, Concentration of nutrients were lower than being necessary to Porphra growth. Growth rate of Porphra was $12\%$ increased by organic acid treatment with carbonized organic acid added nutrient.

  • About 6.7% mortality was reported in a starry flounder (Platichthys stellatus) aquaculture farm in 2022. Most of the diseased fish showed a loss of pectoral fin, hemorrhages on muscle and gills, pale gills, enlarged spleen, and nodules on kidney. Parasites, fungi or viruses (viral hemorrhagic septicemia virus and hirame novirhabdovirus) were not detected from diseased fish. However, numerous bacteria were isolated from liver, spleen and kidney. Nucleotide sequences of the A-protein-encoding virulence array protein gene (vapA) of the bacteria showed 99.93% identity with Aeromonas salmonicida subsp. masoucida. This study is the first report of isolation of atypical A. salmonicida in cultured starry flounder in Korea.

  • In this study, investigated the general characteristics and diagnostic methods types of streptococcosis among various fish disease pathogens that caused a lot of economic damaged to aquaculture fish based on the previous research paper. Streptococcosis infection of fish is considered a reemerging disease affecting a variety of wild and cultured fish throughout the world. Calssifiacation of Gram positive cocci based on DNA-DNA hybridization coupled with 16S sequencing has shown that at least five different species are considered of significance as fish pathogens: Lactococcus garvieae, L. piscium, Streptococcus iniae, S. agalactiae, S. paruberis, Vagococcus salmoninarum. Symptoms of infection with streptococcosis disease such as body color change, eyeball abnormality, gill discoloration, bleeding, abdominal distension, swelling of the kidney and spleen. In addition, it usually occurs from June to October when the water temperature rise a lot of fish death. Currently, 16S rRNA, 16S-23S rRNA intergenic spacer region (ISR), Random Amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD), Ribotyion (RT), Loop-mediated isothermal amplification (LAMP) are among the methods for diagnosing streptococcosis. Among them, the LAMP method, which is high applicable to the aquaculture farm has attracted the spotlight, but due to problems such as confirmation of results. This seems to minimize the economic loss of streptococcosis which complements the problem so that it can be easily used from the diagnosis to the results confirmation.

  • Relationship between population group properties and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) content of the Pacific oyster had been carried out at the Bukman oyster farm near Tongyeong based on the regular monthly sampling from November 1994 through April 1996. DHA content in lipids was least abundant in June and most abundant in November. Minimum DHA content close to 'zero' in lune suggests that much of DHA are being used for maturing and discharging of eggs and sperms, in consideration of the fact that lure is the spawning periods of the oyster. The corelationships among DHA content, mortality, and growth coefficient, have not been recognized. The approximate positive relations have been acknowledged between DHA content and the individual density in times of harvest, and also the individual weight. But it seems that the relaltions between DHA content and the individual weight are not directly related, rather it seems that it is the result from the population density effects caused by the relations between DHA and the number of individuls. But the meaning of the above mentioned relations can not be clearly defined yet.

  • Shortfin eel (Anguilla bicolor pacifica) is a species of commercial importance and its production is greatly affected due to the infection by Heterosporis anguillarum. In this study, we evaluated the effect of H. anguillarum infection on the growth of Shortfin eel. A disease that trunk muscle of cultured shortfin eel, Anguilla bicolor pacifica, were irregular and resulted in death, breakout of the commercial eel culture farm. We observed that the trunk muscle of infected eels were irregular and represented white or yellowish externally. Histopathologically, a great numbers of large or small spores and sporophorocysts were also observed in degenerated muscle layer. The cloning of specific gene of H. anguillarum, encoding small subunit ribosomal RNA (SSU-rRNA) was amplified by the polymerase chain reaction(PCR) from the muscle lesion of diseased eel. The size of clone gene is well matched with the size of small subunit ribosomal RNA of H. anguillarum and thus confirming the infection by H. anguillarum.

  • In order to see the oceanographic conditions, the observations of aquaculture farm of ascidian in Youngdeuk, the east coast of Korea were conducted through 6 times-23 February, 6 April, 8 June, 19 August, 6 October and 20 December-in 2010. Surveys were conducted in 20 stations bimonthly using SBE 19 CTD instrument. The mixed layer depth (MLD) was deep in winter and shallow in summer. The cold water below $5^{\circ}C$ in temperature was occupied below thermocline through all season. The temperature was high in the southeastern area. The salinity was increased from the coast to the open sea. The halocline was distinct at 20 m depth in August and at 40 m depth in October. The lowest value of salinity was appeared at the depth of 10 m in October. In addition the value of precipitation minus evaporation denoted negative in October. These low saline water seemed to inflow to the coast from the open sea. Therefore the low saline water moved to the east coast of Korea. The EKWC may play an important role to convey the low saline water. It may affect the aquaculture farm along the coast as the mass mortality of ascidian. It needs to clarify the role and pathway of EKWC to transfer the low saline water along the east coast of Korea.

  • Palmaria palmata was integrated with Atlantic halibut Hippoglossus hippoglossus on a commercial farm for one year starting in November, with a temperature range of 0.4 to $19.1^{\circ}C$. The seaweed was grown in nine plastic mesh cages (each $1.25m^3$ volume) suspended in a concrete sump tank ($46m^3$) in each of three recirculating systems. Two tanks received effluent water from tanks stocked with halibut, and the third received ambient seawater serving as a control. Thalli were tumbled by continuous aeration, and held under a constant photoperiod of 16 : 8 (L : D). Palmaria stocking density was $2.95kg\;m^{-3}$ initially, increasing to $9.85kg\;m^{-3}$ after a year. Specific growth rate was highest from April to June (8.0 to $9.0^{\circ}C$), 1.1% $d^{-1}$ in the halibut effluent and 0.8% $d^{-1}$ in the control, but declined to zero or less than zero above $14^{\circ}C$. Total tissue nitrogen of Palmaria in effluent water was 4.2 to 4.4% DW from January to October, whereas tissue N in the control system declined to 3.0-3.6% DW from April to October. Tissue carbon was independent of seawater source at 39.9% DW. Estimated tank space required by Palmaria for 50% removal of the nitrogen excreted by 100 t of halibut during winter is about 29,000 to $38,000m^2$, ten times the area required for halibut culture. Fifty percent removal of carbon from the same system requires 7,200 to $9,800m^2$ cultivation area. Integration of P. palmata with Atlantic halibut is feasible below $10^{\circ}C$, but is impractical during summer months due to disintegration of thalli associated with reproductive maturation.
