LiDAR systems provide dense and accurate topographic information. A pre-requisite to achieving the potential accuracy of LiDAR is having a proper system calibration, which aims at estimating all the systematic errors in the system measurements and the mounting parameters relating the different components. This paper presents a rigorous and two approximate methods for LiDAR system calibration. The rigorous approach makes use of the LiDAR equation and the system raw measurements. The approximate approaches utilize simplified LiDAR equations using some assumptions, which allow for less strict requirements regarding the raw measurements. The first presented approximate method, denoted as quasi-rigorous, assumes that we are dealing with a vertical platform (i.e., small pitch and roll angles). This method requires time-tagged point cloud and trajectory position data. The second approximate method, denoted as simplified, assumes that we are dealing with parallel strips, vertical platform, and minor terrain elevation variations compared to the flying height above ground. Such method can be performed using the LiDAR point cloud only. Experimental results using a real dataset, whose characteristics deviate to some extent from the utilized assumptions in the approximate methods, are presented to provide a comparative analysis of the outcome from the introduced methods.

The objective of this paper is to adjust precise traverse nets by matrix analysis. As the result of this paper, In positioning by Traverse nets adjustment, the application of matrix analysis improved the accuracy. And also, the difference between adjustment values of rigorous-method and those of approximate-method appears to be within the mean square errors(0.4 mm~0.9 mm), therefore, the efficiency of approximate-method was proved.
The paper deals with comparative study of various surrogate models based approximate optimization in the structural design of the passive type deck support frame under design load conditions. The passive type deck support frame was devised to facilitate both transportation and installation of 20,000 ton class topside. Structural analysis was performed using the finite element method to evaluate the strength performance of the passive type deck support frame in its initial design stage. In the structural analysis, the strength performances were evaluated for various design load conditions. The optimum design problem based on surrogate model was formulated such that thickness sizing variables of main structure members were determined by minimizing the weight of the passive type deck support frame subject to the strength performance constraints. The surrogate models used in the approximate optimization were response surface method, Kriging model, and Chebyshev orthogonal polynomials. In the context of numerical performances, the solution results from approximate optimization were compared to actual non-approximate optimization. The response surface method among the surrogate models used in the approximate optimization showed the most appropriate optimum design results for the structure design of the passive type deck support frame.
A fast and inexpensive approximate analysis method to predict power output characteristics of the Stilting engines in a preliminary design stage was investigated. In basic equations proposed by Walker, typical temperatures of working fluids in expansion and compression spaces were treated as those of working fluids in heater and cooler respectively. While the temperature of working fluid in the expansion space was actually lower than that of working fluid in the heater, the temperature of working fluid in the compression space was higher than that of working fluids in the cooler. In this paper, the working fluid temperature of expansion space was treated as lower than the heater temperature and that of compression space was treated as higher than the cooler temperature. Also, according to them, the power output characteristics of the Stirling engine were evaluated with respect to the GPU-3 and 4-215 Stilting engines. The following conclusions were drawn from the analysis. 1. Using the available experimental data from the GPU-3 Stirling engine, it was shown that the approximate analysis predicts the brake power with a maximum error of 19 percent at 1, 000rpm and with a minimum error of 3 percent at 2, 000rpm. 2. The approximate analysis data which for the GPU-3 Stirling engine were much closer to the experimental data than those of adiabatic 2nd order and 3rd order analysis within 1, 500rpm to 2, 500rpm. 3. The approximate analysis data which for the GPU-3 and 4-215 Stilting engines were much closer to the experimental data than those of the Beal number analysis.

The purpose of this paper is to evaluate the effectiveness of eigen modes by modal analysis and the application of approximate eigen modes for continuum. This study proposes the appropriate selection technique of eigen modes by modal analysis and the method for the reasonable survey of post-buckling path. And the buckling characteristics of a latticed dome is studied by the application of these approximate eigen modes which have sufficient accuracy and praticallity for response analysis in symmetric and anti-symmetric state of continuous shell. To prove the effectiveness of eigen modes and application of approximate eigen modes for continuum, these results are compared with those of direct method.

This paper defines the modified effective membrane stiffness, bending stiffness considering the directionally dependent mechanical properties and mode shape function of a composite lattice rectangular plate, which is assumed to be a Kirchhoff-Love plate. It subsequently presents an approximate method of conducting a buckling analysis of the composite lattice rectangular plate with various boundary conditions under uniform compression using the Ritz method. This method considers the coupled buckling mode as well as the global and local buckling modes. The validity of the present method is verified by comparing the results of the finite element analysis. In addition, this paper performs a parametric analysis to investigate the effects of the design parameters on the critical load and buckling mode shape of the composite lattice rectangular plate based on the present method. The results allow a database to be obtained on the buckling characteristics of composite lattice rectangular plates. Consequently, it is concluded that the present method which facilitates the calculation of the critical load and buckling mode shape according to the design parameters as well as the parametric analysis are very useful not only because of their structural design but also because of the buckling analysis of composite lattice structures.
In this paper, an alternative analytical method is presented to evaluate the nonlinear vibration behavior of single and double tapered cantilever beams. The admissible lateral displacement function satisfying the geometric boundary conditions of a single or double tapered cantilever beam is derived by using Rayleigh-Ritz method. Based on the Lagrange method and the Newton Harmonic Balance (NHB) method, analytical approximate solutions in closed and explicit form are obtained. These approximate solutions show excellent agreement with those of numeric method for small as well as large amplitude. Moreover, due to brevity of expressions, the present analytical approximate solutions are convenient to investigate effects of various parameters on the large amplitude vibration response of tapered beams.

An inverse method is introduced to construct the problem for the error analysis of the numerical solution of initial value problem. These problems constructed through this method have a known exact solution, even though analytical solutions are generally not obtainable. The process leading to the exact solution makes use of an initially available approximate numerical solution. A smooth interpolation of the approximate solution is forced to exactly satisfy the differential equation by analytically deriving a small forcing function to absorb all of the errors in the interpolated approximate solution. Using this special case exact solution, it is possible to investigate the relationship between global errors of a candidate numerical solution process and the associated tuning parameters for a given problem. Under the assumption that the original differential equation is well-posed with respect to the small perturbations, we thereby obtain valuable information about the optimal choice of the tuning parameters and the achievable accuracy of the numerical solution.
The quantitative evaluation of the stereo graphic projection, the limit equilibrium analysis, the finite difference analysis, the distinct element methocI is a analytical evaluation using many variables. Through the reliability analysis by the point estimation technique, uncertainty of other variables that have an effect on the stability of the rock slo~ was considered. The organized evaluation method of the approximate reasoning concept and using a fuzzy language was developed to confer and analysis the failure factors in planning and constructing the rock slope. Considering the result of the an- alysis, it was demonstrated that stability of entire sections can be evaluated through reliability analysis of point estimation technique. The results of stability evaluation by Fuzzy Approximate Reasoning is generally identical with the results of other existirw; analyses. As mentioned above, general and organized evaluation of special qualities of rock slope is possible using RMR Classification, Stereo Graphic Projection, Limit Equilibriwn Analysis, Finite Difference Analysis, Distinct Element Method, Point Estimation Technique, and Fuzzy Approximate Reasoning.

In decision support system, knowledge workers require aggregation operations of the large data and are more interested in the trend analysis rather than in the punctual analysis. Therefore, it is necessary to provide fast approximate answers rather than exact answers, and to research approximate query answering techniques. In this paper, we propose a new approximation query answering method which is based on Fuzzy C-means clustering (FCM) method and Adaptive Neuro-Fuzzy Inference System (ANFIS). The proposed method using FCM-ANFIS can compute aggregate queries without accessing massive multidimensional data cube by producing the KR model of multidimensional data cube. In our experiments, we show that our method using the KR model outperforms the NMF method.
