  • A lot of PSC railway bridges have been constructed in countries and, they are considered as cost-effective and less maintenance-demanded structures. However, recently several collapse of PSC bridges happened in Europe show that PSC bridges have some serious maintenance problems related to tendon corrosion and wire fractures. Furthermore, any reliable NDT method is not presented until recently. In this paper, AE techniques are investigated for detection of wire fractures in PSC beam. Using long-term monitoring AE techniques, two acoustic signals of wire fractures in a PSC beam are obtained. These data are compared to other noise signals. Based on the test results, the characteristics of the AE signals are classified and wire fracture signals are figured out among the other AE signals. As a result, AE techniques are certainly exposed to tendon fracture sound, and application of AE techniques are better than any other non-destructive method.

  • Acoustic emission (AE) was originally developed for non-destructive testing of static structure, but over the year its application has been extended to health monitoring of rotating machines and bearings. It offers the advantage of earlier defect detection in comparison with monitoring bearing. This study was diagnosed low-speed machine which had a fault bearing for early detection by AE. And the artificial faults in a experimentation bearing was made for the bearing signals from difference speed and load were compared and analyzed by AE.

  • In this study, coupled mode piezoelectric devices for AE sensor application with excellent displacement and piezoelectric characteristics were simulated using ATILA FEM program, and then fabricated. Displacements and electromechanical coupling factors of the piezoelectric devices were investigated. The simulation results showed that excellent displacement and electromechanical coupling factor were obtained when the ratio of diameter/thickness was 1.0. The piezoelectric device of ${\Phi}/T$= 1.0 exhibited the optimum values of fr= 406 kHz, displacement= $6.11{\times}10^{-8}[m]$, $k_{eff}$= 0.648. The results show that the coupled vibration mode piezoelectric device is a promising candidate for the application of AE sensor piezoelectric device.

  • Product Line Engineering (PLE) consists of two phases; Core Assets Development and Application Engineering. The core asset development is to model common features of members in a domain and to develop them. The application engineering is to effectively generate an application by instantiating the core asset. Today, PLE research mainly focuses on developing core assets, whereas activities and instructions for application engineering are weakly defined. Moreover, instructions of application engineering are not enough to be practically applied. To widely apply PLE to industry, researches on systematic and practical methods such as instantiation processes, instructions, and artifacts are needed. In this paper, we propose a practical PLE process, instructions, and artifacts about each activity. And then, we also present a case study to show applicability and practicality of the process proposed in this paper.

  • Acoustic emission(AE)/Microseimsic(MS) activities are low-energy seismic events associated with a sudden inelastic deformation such as the sudden movement of existing fractures, the generation of new fractures or the propagation of fractures. These events rapidly increase before major failure and happen within a given rock volume and radiate detectable seismic waves. The main difference between AE and MS signals is that the seismic motion frequencies of AE signals are higher than those of MS signals. As the failure of geotechnical structures usually happens as a high velocity and small displacement, it is not easy to determine the precursor and initiation stress level of failure in displacement detection method. To overcome this problem, AE/MS techniques for detection of structure failure and damage have recently adopt in civil engineering. In this study, AE/MS monitoring system, which consist of sensor, data acquisition and operation program, is constructed with domestic technology. To verify and optimize the developed system, we are now carrying out the field application at an underground research laboratory and the developed AE/MS monitoring will be used in detecting of seismic events with various scales.

  • In this study, an effective application method of AE technique for the detection of fatigue crack in multi-girder steel bridges has been proposed. The applicability has been examined through the laboratory works with bridge model. The proposed analytical method which evaluates the remaining fatigue lives of structural members may improve the rational determination of the priority of inspection for structural members assuming to have fatigue cracks. Laboratory tests for the application of AE technique to steel girder bridges show that the frequency bands of traffic noise are in the range between 10 show that the frequency bands of traffic noise are in the range between 100~200 kHz and the AE signal raised from fatigue cracks is concentrated around 400~500 kHz. Therefore. R30 sensor is proved to be the most suitable for the detection of cracks in steel girder bridges. A linear proportionality between the crack propagation and the frequency of AE signals has been obtained. In addition, an economic and effective source location method for steel girder bridges was studied through experiments.

  • In this paper, using a wide-band AE sensor with the frequency range from 100[kHz], the frequency spectra of AE signals generated from the corona discharges of the needle-plane electrode was analyzed to determine the proper ultrasonic sensor. We also examined the relationship between the magnitude of corona discharge and the magnitude of AE signals in peak-to-peak value under the application of 60[Hz] AC high-voltage in oil. From these results, the main frequency spectra of AE signals emitted from the corona discharges of the needle-plane gap were found to be 130[kHz] by the fast fourier transform. The magnitude of AE signals was proportional to the magnitude of corona discharge and discharge current pulse with increasing the applied voltages. Also the detection of corona discharge point location by AE signals was found to be possible by using two sensors.

  • Acoustic Emission(AE) is widely used for early detection of faults for rotating machinery in these days because of its high sensitivity. AE signal has to need for transferring to low frequency range for the spectrum analysis included the fault mechanism. In transferring process, we lose a lot of fault information caused by unusable signal processing method. Discrete Wavelet Transform(DWT) is a method of signal processing for AE signatures, but the pattern of its mother function is not optimized with AE signals. So, we can lose the fault information when we want to use the DWT for AE signal. Therefore, in this paper, we will propose a novel pattern for DWT mother function, which is optimized with AE signals. And it will be applied to compare the results of DWT by daubechie and novel pattern.
