An active layer distributed on surface of an extreme cold region causes a frost heave by repeating the freezing and thawing according to the seasonal temperature change. Since the height of frost heave is greatly affected by the thickness of active layer, an accurate evaluation of the thickness of active layer is necessary for the safe design and construction of the infrastructure in the extreme cold region. In this study, dynamic cone penetrometer, which is miniaturized in-situ penetration device, is applied for the evaluation of active layer depth distribution. As the application tests, two dynamic cone penetration tests were conducted on the study sites located in Solomon and Alaska. In addition, ground temperature variations were obtained. As the results of the application tests, the depth of interface between the active layer and the permafrost was evaluated from the difference in dynamic cone penetration indexes of the active layer and the permafrost, and a layer was detected around the interface considered as an ice lens layer. Also, the interface depths between the above zero and the below zero temperature determined from the ground temperature variations correspond with the interface depths evaluated from the dynamic cone penetration tests. This study demonstrates that the dynamic cone penetrometer may be a useful tool for the evaluation of the active layer in the extreme cold region.
The purpose of this was to evaluate the in vitro effects of different application modes of tetracycline HCI on dentin root surfaces. The study group was comprised of 30 teeth with advanced periodontal disease extracted before the start of periodontal therapy. The diseased root surface was vigorously root planed to expose dentin. The teeth were sectioned and cotton pellets. soaked in a saturated solution of tetracycline HCI, were either "placed" or "burnished" on the prepared root surface for 3, 5 min. respectively. Control surfaces were similarly treated with root planing only. Following the various treatments, teeth were fixed. dehydrated, critical point dried, and coated for scanning electron microscopic(SEM) evaluation. The surfaces of tetracycline HCI treated specimens considerably differed from specimens treated with root planing only. Results demonstrated that root-planed, no-tetracycline HCI specimens had amorphous, irregular surface which corresponded to a smear layer. Tetracycline HCI specimens exhibited collagen fibers and dentinal tubules exposed by the removal of the smear layer. Although some differences were seen in surface structures among some specimens. "burnished" application causes more extensive change than "placed" application, and application time of the tetracycline HCl did not seem to have any major impact on the surface morphology.
As it has been continuously increased the volume of traffic over Internet, it is hard for a network traffic monitoring system to analysis every packet in a real-time manner. While it is increased usage of applications which are dynamically allocated port number such as peer-to-peer(P2P), steaming media, messengers, users want to analyze traffic data generated from them. This high level analysis of each packet needs more processing time. This paper proposes to introduce load shedder for limiting the number of packets. After it determines what application generates a selected packet, the packet is analyzed with a defined application protocol.

The objective of this paper is to analyze requirements of distributed applications which use the different type of information and support the cooperative work environment between a group of persons in interactive mode, and to provide useful common services for the development of this kind of applications. For this, Interactive Cooperative Application Service as a horizontal service on the application layer and Session Management Service as a support service on the infrastructure layer were defined and designed using the concepts and rules of the Open Distributed Processing system. Application designers may use these services for building those applications which demand the requirements we have characterized in this paper.

NiO serves as a window layer for Si photoelectric devices. Due to the wide energy bandgap of NiO, high optical transparency (over 80%) was achieved and applied for Si photoelectric devices. Due to the high the high mobility, the heterojunction device (Al/n-Si/$SiO_2$/p-NiO/ITO) provide ultimately fast photoresponses of rising time of $38.33{\mu}s$ and falling time of $39.25{\mu}s$, respectively. This functional NiO layer would provide benefits for high-performing photoelectric devices, including photodetectors and solar cells.
Application response time is critical to end-user response time in Android smartphones. Due to the plentiful resources of recent smartphones, storage I/O response time becomes a major key factor in application response time. However, existing storage I/O trace tools for Android and Linux give limited information only for a specific I/O layer which makes it difficult to combine I/O information from different I/O layers, because not helpful for application developer and researchers. In this paper, we propose a novel storage I/O trace tool for Android, called AIOPro (Android I/O profiler). It traces storage I/O from application - Android platform - system call - virtual file system - native file system - page cache - block layer - SCSI layer and device driver. It then combines the storage I/O information from I/O layers by linking them with file information and physical address. Our evaluations of real smartphone usage scenarios and benchmarks show that AIOPro can track storage I/O information from all I/O layers without any data loss under 0.1% system overheads.

$(Pb_{1-x}La_x)TiO_3$ (x = 0.1) thin films were prepared on ITO-coated glass substrates by metal organic chemical vapor deposition using ultrasonic spraying. Effects of the post-annealing and the seeding layer on crystallization, microstructures and electrical properties of thin films were investigated. Dielectric constants of films increased due to the modification of crystallization and the changing of a surface morphology by applying the post-annealing. In addition, as the application of PT seed- ing layer offered nucleation sites to PLT thin films, electrical properties of films were enhanced by the increase of crys-tallinity and grain size. The dielectric constant of the films post-heated for 60 min and with a seeding layer was 213 at 1 kHz.
Polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) hollow fiber membrane is widely used for water treatment. However, the weak mechanical strength of PVDF limits its application. To enhance its tensile strength, a double-layer composite hollow fiber membrane, with PVDF and polyetherimide as the external and inner layers, respectively, was successfully prepared through phase inversion technique. The effects of additive content, air gap distance, N,N-dimethyl-acetamide content in the inner core liquid, and the temperature of external coagulation bath on the membrane structure, permeation flux, rejection, tensile strength, and porosity were determined. Experimental results showed that the optimum preparation conditions for the double-layer composite hollow fiber membrane were as follows: PEG-400 and PEG-600, 5 wt%; air gap distance, 10 cm; inner core liquid and the external coagulation bath should be water; and temperature of the external coagulation bath, 40 C. A single layer PVDF hollow fiber membrane (without PEI layer) was also prepared under optimum conditions. The double-layer composite membrane remarkably improved the tensile strength compared with the single-layer PVDF hollow fiber membrane. The permeation flux, rejection, and porosity were also slightly enhanced. High-tensile strength hollow fiber PVDF ultrafiltration membrane can be fabricated using the proposed technique.
In this paper, the inorganic multi-layer encapsulation of thin film was newly adopted to protect the organic layer from moisture and oxygen. Using the electron beam, Sputter, inorganic multi-layer thin-film encapsulation was deposited onto the Ethylene Terephthalate(PET) and their interface properties between inorganic and organic layer were investigated. In this investigation, the SiON $SiO_2$ and parylene layer showed the most suitable properties. Under these conditions, the water vapor transmission rate (WVTR) for PET can be reduced from level of $0.57g/m^2/day$ (bare substrate) to $1^{\ast}10^{-5}g/m^2/day$ after application of a SiON and $SiO_2$ layer. These results indicate that the $PET/SiO_2/SiON/Parylene$ barrier coatings have high potential for flexible organic light-emitting diode(OLED) applications.

High-$T_c$ superconducting (HTSC) power cable is one of the interesting parts in power application using HTSC wire. However, its stacked structure makes the current distribution between conducting layers non-uniform due to difference between self inductances of conducting layers and mutual inductances between two conducting layers, which results in lower current transmission capacity of HTSC power cable. In this paper, the transport current distribution between conducting layers was investigated through the numerical analysis for the equivalent circuit of HTSC power cable with a shield layer, and compared with the case of without a shield layer. The transport current distribution due to the increase of the contact resistance in each layer was improved. However, its magnetization loss increased as the contact resistance increased. It was confirmed from the analysis that the shield layer was contributed to the improvement of the current distribution between conducting layers if the winding direction and the pitch length were properly chosen.
