진경온담탕(鎭驚溫膽湯)의 항경련(抗痙攣) 작용(作用)에 관(關)한 실험적(實驗的) 연구(硏究) (An Experimental study on the anticonvulsive effects of Jinkyungondamtang)

  • In order to investigate the anticonvulsive effect of Jinkyungondamtang, the experiment were performed in mice. After solid exract of Jinkyungondamtang was orally administered to mice, four types of convulsion were induced in mice by electric shock, strychnine, picrotoxin, and caffeine. Each of the time to elicit the convulsion and to die was observed. Results were as follows: 1. In the case of convulsion induced by electric shock, the lapse of the time to elicit convulsion and the time to die were delayed by oral administration of Jinkyungondam-tang(P<0.05, P<0.025). 2. The solid extracts of Jinkyungondamtang were revealed rem- arkable effect in delaying the time to die induced by stry-chnine (P<0.05). 3. By oral administration of Jinkyungondamtang, the lapse of the time to elicit convulsion and to die were delayed significantly to elicit convulsion inducing by picrotoxin (P<0.05, P<0.05). 4. Considerable prolongation of the lapse of the time to elicit the convulsion was observed in convulsion induced caffeine due to the anticonvulsive effects of Jinkyungondamtang (P<0.05).

펜틸렌테트라졸로 유도된 실험동물에서 연자육 추출물의 항경련 작용기전 (Action Mechanism of Anticonvulsive Effect of Nelumbo Nucifera in Pentylenetetrazole-induced Animal Models)

  • Nelumbo nucifera(NN) is a oriental medicinal herb which has been used traditionally for the treatment of antidiarrhea, sedative action and various brain diseases including convulsion and epilepsy. In order to examine the mechanism of anticonvulsive effect, we treated the methanol extract of NN(100, 200 mg/kg, P.0) to the sleeping time and pentylenetetrazole(PTZ)-induced convulsive mice. The methanol extract of NN prolonged sleep time by pentobarbital. Methanol extracts of NN were not effected the concentration of GABA and GABA-T activity in the brain of PTZ-induced mice. Methanol extracts of NN significantly inhibited the convulsion state as well as the level of lipid peroxidation in the brain. The butanol and dichloromethane fraction of methanol extracts among the others effectively inhibited in vitro lipid peroxidation dose dependently($5.0{\times}10^{-6}\sim2.0{\times}10^{-5}\;g/ml$). These results suggest that the anticonvulsive effect of NN is possibly due to the antioxidative effects of the free radical formation at brain for the PTZ-induced convulsion if it were by due to generating system.

  • In order to investigate pharmacological actions of combined preparations of crude drugs, 'Jakyakgamcho-Tang' were studied. The 'Jakyakgamcho-Tang' using abdominal pain and convulsion of pediatric diseases are composed of Glycyrrhizae Radix and Paeoniae Radix alba. This study was undertaken to investigate the effect of 'Jakyakgamcho-Tang'(S-I) and parched 'Jakyakgamcho-Tang'(S-II) on anticonvulsive, analgesic, antipyretic and sedative actions. The results of this study were summarized as follows; Both 'Jakyakgamcho-Tang' and parched 'Jakyakgamcho-Tang' showed anticonvulsive effects against convulsions induced by strychnine, picrotoxine and caffeine. 'Jakyakgamcho-Tang' and parched 'Jakyakgamcho-Tang' also showed analgesic and antipyretic effects. Parched 'Jakyakgamcho-Tang' only prolonged the duration of hypnosis induced by sodium pentobarbital.

보제소독음(普濟消毒飮)의 진통(鎭痛), 해열(解熱), 소염(消炎), 항균(抗菌) 및 항경련(抗痙攣)에 대한 실험적(實驗的) 연구(硏究) (Effect of Bojeosodokeum on the Analgesic, Antipyretic, Anti-inflammatory, Antimicrobial and Anti-convulsive Actions)

  • Experimental studies were done to research the clinical effect of Bojeosodokeum on the Analgesic, Antipyretic, Anti-inflammatory, Antimicrobial and Anti-convulsive effects in mice and rats. The results obtained as follows : 1. The solid extract powders of Bojeosodokeum was revealed significant action on analgesic effect. 2. the solid extract powders of Bojeosodokeum was revealed significant action on Anti-inflammatory effect. 3. The solid extract powders of Bojeosodokeum was revealed significant action on antipyretic effect. 4. Antimicrobial effects of solid extract powders of Bojeosodokeum against Escherichia coli and staphylococcus aureus was observed. 5. The solid extract powders of Bojeosodokeum was revealed significant action on anticonvulsive effect. According to the above results, it is confirmed that analgestic, anti-inflammatory, antipyretic, antimicrobial and anticonvulsive effect were recognized in solid extract powders of Bojeosodokeum.

  • Cerebral palsy is a nonprogressive brain disorder occurring during gestation, parturition or neonatal period with resultant abnormality of posture or other deficits. Recently the early diagnosis and early treatment has been emphasized in management of cerebral palsy. We studied 1 cerebral palsied child that having been treated anticonvulsive therapy in Sangge-Baek Hospital(상계 백병원) for 1 year. We improved the patient's general condition through dispensing Herb-Med(養胃湯 加味), thus we could reduce the antiepileptic & Sedative drug dose simultaneously controlling convulsion. In this point, we could find the possibility of east-west integrated medicine's cooperation and the fact that Herb-Med could be helpful to controlling convulsion.

우황포용환(牛黃抱龍丸)이 Rat 및 Mouse의 해열(解熱).진통(鎭通) 진경작용(鎭經作用)에 미치는 영향 (Experimental Studies on the Antipyretic, Analgetic, Anticonvulsive effects of the Woo-Whang-Po-Lyong-Whan to Rats and Mice)

  • The Woo-Whang-po-Lyong-Whan has been used as one of the traditional medicines in the field of pediatrics so far since Song dynasty, and still it is widely being used nowadays. It might be considered to be a contribution to do further basic experimental studies on antipyretic, anticonvulsive and analgetic action of the Woo-Whang-po-Lyong-Whan. So it's pharmacological studies were carried out comparing to control drugs. ?Following conclusions were obtained. 1. It's antipyretic action was compared to that of aspirin by Writhing response using acetic acid-method. Mice were given one twentith, one tenth and one fifth tablets of the Woo-Whang-po-Lyong-Whan per Kg of body weight, respecitively. Writhing syndrome frequencies were noted as 38.4 in control group. and $18.0{\pm}12$, $13.17{\pm}2.28$, $7.33{\pm}12$ in above esperimental groups, respectively. In aspirin group it was $18.5{\pm}1.0$ when 2mg aspirin per body weight of mice was given. So it was recognized that antipyretic action of the Woo-Whang-Po-Lyong-Whan become remarkable by increasing amounts of the Woo-Whang-Po-Lyong-Whan. ?2. Antipyretic action in normal temperature mice group was not significant by increasing concentration of the Woo-Whang-Po-Lyong-Whan, but body temperature dropping in normal mice group was slightly noted than control. group, but less temperature dropping was noted than aminopyrin group. ?3. In fever provocated rats groups using Salmonella typhimurium, antipyretic action of the Woo-Whang-Po-Lyong-Whan was not observed significantly than control group. And slight antipyretic action was noted in aminopyrin group. So that antipyretic action of the Woo-Whang-Po-Lyong-Whan was not significant than those of general antipyretic used nowadays, but slower action was recognized. ?4. Anticonvulsive action of the Woo-Whang-Po-Lyong-Whan was studies comparing to that of phenobarbital. Action was not remarkable than phenobarbital, but was significant than control group. No significant intesifying action was noted by increasing amounts of the Woo-Whang-Po- Lyong-Whang.

영양각산(羚羊角散)이 진경(鎭痙), 해열(解熱), 진통(鎭痛), 진정(鎭靜) 및 GABAergic system에 미치는 영향 (The effect of Youngyanggaksan on the anticonvulsive, antipyretic, analgesic, sedative and GABAergic system)

  • This study has been carried out to investigate the effects of Youngyanggaksan (YGS) extract on the anticonvulsive, antipyretic, anlgesic, sedative and GABAergic system of experimental animals. The results of this study were as follows : 1. YGS extract prolonged significantly the beginning time to convulsion and time to death induced by strychnine. 2. YGS extract prolonged significantly the time to death induced by electrical shock of ECT unit (3sec, 200F, 25mA). 3. On the experiment of hypothermic effects of YGS extract on the rectal temperature of rats, YGS extract decreased significantly the rectal temperature of rats. 4. On the experiment of antipyretic effects of YGS extract on the febrile induced by the subcutaneous injection of $150{\mu}g/kg$ endotoxin in rats, YGS extract decreased significantly the rectal temperature of rats. 5. On the experiment of analgesic effects of YGS extract on the writhing syndrome induced by intraperitoneal injection 0.7% acetic acid 1ml/100g in rats, the writhing syndrome was reduced significantly by administration of YGS extract. 6. On the experiment of sedative effects of YGS extract on spontaneous motor activity measured by wheel cage method in mice, the spontaneous motor activity was reduced significantly by administration of YGS extract. 7. On the experiment of effects of YGS extract on the activity of GABA-transaminase(GABA-T) in rat brains after 21 days of oral administration of YGS extract, the activity of GABA-T was reduced significantly by administration of YGS extract. 8. On the experiment of effects of YGS extract on the activity concentration of GABA in rat brains after 21 days of oral administration of YGS extract the activity concentration of GABA was reduced significantly by administration of YGS extract. 9. On the experiment of effects of YGS extract on the activity of GAD in rat brains after 21 days of oral adminstration of YGS extract, the activity of GAD was reduced significantly by administration of YGS extract. According to the those results, Youngyanggaksan extract reveals the effects on the anticonvulsive, antipyretic, anlgesic, sedative and GABAergic system.

  • The sedative, antipyretic, analgesic and anticonvulsive action, action on the isolated ileum in mice, retricting action on edema, action on blood pressure and respiration of Sipmidojuksan were evaluated. The results were as follows; sedative effects were recognized by the unbalanced effects of spontaneous momentum by wheel cage method, muscle relaxing action by rotor rod method and prolongation of sleeping hours. In mice, a significant antipyretic effect to endotoxin was recognized. Significant anagesic effects by acetic acid and Randall-Sellito method were recognized. Significant anticonvulsive effects to strychnine and picrotoxin were recognized. Spontaneous momentum of isolated ileum in mice was restricted, and relaxing effects on smooth muscle of digestive organ were noted by anti-acetylcholine, anti-barium chloride and anti-histamine effects. Significant antiedemic effects to carrageenin and histamine were recognized. Dilatation of blood vessels and decrease of blood pressure were noted.

  • Analgesic, anticonvulsive, sedative and antipyretic actions of Yangkyuksanwhatang which is composed of nine crude drugs including Rehmanniae Radix, and its effects on isolated ileum and blood vessel were investigated. The results of the studies were summerized as follows; 1. Analgesic and antipyretic effects were observed. 2. Suppressive actions were not shown on the convulsion induced by strychnine, but significant effects were noted on the convulsion induced by picrotoxin. 3. A prolongation of anesthetic time induced by pentobarbital sodium was significantly observed. 4. Relaxing actions were noted on the ileum of mice, and also, same effects were recognized on the contraction of the ileum due to acetylcholine chloride and barium chloride. 5. The expansion of blood vessels by relaxation of smooth muscle and hypotensive effects were noted.
