  • In this study, researches for the development of antibiotics and antimicrobial concrete were conducted to reduce biochemical corrosion of sewage concrete. First of all, desired performance, such as watertightness, antibiosis, homogeneity, workability and harmlessness, was proposed and performance of antibiotics and antimicrobial concrete were evaluated by them. As results of this study, dispersibility and antibiosis of liquid antibiotics superior to powdery antibiotics. Antibiosis of antimicrobial concrete was verified, and amount of elution of harmful and effective ingredients was little. In workability, setting time of antimicrobial concrete was delayed. Compressive strength and resistance to carbonation of antimicrobial concrete were more increased than ordinary concrete. Also, as little pore volume and closed structure of antimicrobial concrete were observed, watertightness of it was verified. Finally artificial accelerating test for biochemical corrosion was proposed, and its suitability was experimentally proved.

  • This study analyzed the antioxidant activities and antibacterial effects of extracts from the fruit of Citrus junos. Theextracts were obtained in both 70% ethanol solution and distilled water at a distillation temperature of $50^{\circ}C$.Three experiments were carried out between November 2016 and March 2017. The averages and the standard deviations of the results were measured. The total polyphenol and tannin contents of the ethanol extracts were $7.8{\pm}0.02mgGAE/g$ and $9.9{\pm}0.01mgTAE/g$, respectively, which were higher than the concentrations in the water extracts. Furthermore, the ethanol extracts scavenged $46.1{\pm}4.76%$ of DPPH radicals and $37.1{\pm}1.23%$ of ABTS radicals. The scavenging capability of the ethanol extracts was also higher than that of the water extracts. However, the scavenging capability of both types of extracts depended on their concentrations. All the extracts showed active antibiosis effects against every bacteria tested except for C. albicans. E. coli at 25 mg/disc showed antibiosis with $18{\pm}1.73mm$ for the water extracts, while S. epidermidis and S. aureus showed antibiosis with $17{\pm}4.36mm$ and $19{\pm}2.86mm$ for the ethanol extracts, respectively. This antibiosis rate is considerably higher. The results suggest that fruit extract from Citrus junos could be useful as a primary material for beauty or skin-related products such as soaps, shampoos, and scalp enhancers.

  • This study provides improved wrinkle recovery and UV protection capabilities as well as an antibacterial and deodorizing function to linen fabrics for summer shirts. The results obtained from this study are as follows. By setting catalyst concentration to 1.2% and DMDHEU concentration to 6% respectively and applying a heat treatment to them at $160^{\circ}C$ for 5 minutes, the decrease of fabric strength could be minimized and the crease resistance of linen fabrics improved. Compared to the treatment with DMDHEU only, the crease resistance of linen fabrics could be maintained and degradation of their properties could be more effectively prevented by applying the mixture of the UV absorber and the nano silver to the DMDHEU resin. The UV protection of fabrics could be improved by adding the UV absorber. Although the separate treatment of resin or the nano silver had no effect on the improvement of the UV protection properties for treated fabrics, they could increase the UV protection capability when they were combined with the UV absorber. Linen fabrics could possess an antibiosis and deodorizing capability by applying the mixture of the UV absorber, the nano silver, and the resin. The UV protection, crease resistance and flexibility of finished fabrics were maintained even after laundering. Washed treated fabrics maintained excellent antibiosis and odor free capabilities compared to untreated fabrics.

  • This study investigated the garments of middle-aged women undergoing menopause and their satisfaction with them. Data were collected through a survey of 288 middle-aged women and analyzed using SPSS 17.0. As a result (in terms of degree of symptoms) backache, arthralgia, muscular pain and heat sensation were indicated as significantly more outstanding in the menopause group rather than the menopausal transition group. As a countermeasure to physiological symptoms, a change of temperature (warming or cooling) was applied for backache and arthralgia as well as taking medicine for stomachaches and muscular pain. Body parts suffering from heat sensations were the face, back neck, chest center, waist and hip. Body parts suffering from arthralgia and muscular pain were the shoulder and hip joints. The most significant purchasing factor for menopausal women was the fit of outerwear and antibiosis in underwear; however, women not undergoing menopause selected comfortableness when moving as the most important factor. In terms of body shaping and thermoregulation function, the satisfaction degree in underwear was significantly different between the two groups. Menopausal women wanted functional underwear that provided functions such as thermoregulation, absorption of secretions, and antibiosis.

  • This study was conducted to evaluate the effects of adding gradually increasing concentrations of turmeric extract (0, 0.1, 0.2, and 0.4%) to smoked duck meat on its chromaticity, antibiosis, and antiseptic degree against food poisoning bacteria, number of bacteria, lipid rancidity, sensory evaluation, and preference. The brightness, red color intensity and yellow color intensity changed significantly when 0.2% turmeric extract was added and the sodium nitrate concentration was reduced. Additionally, no antibiosis or antiseptic activities against food poisoning bacteria were observed in any turmeric treated samples, whereas the number of bacteria was increased in control samples compared to turmeric treated samples after 10 days of preservation. The TBARS value decreased during storage when turmeric extract concentration increased, resulting in positive sensory evaluation of its color, succulence, taste and hardness. In the preference test, the surface and meat color increased as the concentration of turmeric extracts increased. Hardness was highest at 0.2%, whereas taste was highest between 0.2 and 0.4%. The overall preference test was highest for the 0.2% extract samples. Overall, the results indicated that addition of 0.2% turmeric to smoked duck meat will lead to better nutrition, function, and overall preference.

  • The variety Tong-il from the IR667 lines have been reported as a variety resistant to the smaller brown planthopper, Laodelphax striatellus Fallen, in Korea. The resistance of Tong-il to the insect, however, have been mainly evaluated from a viewpoint of plant reaction of rice at the seedling stage. In this study, the nature of resistance of Tong-il to the insect was furthermore evaluated from the standpoints of feeding preference, antibiosis and plant tolerance in comparison with the resistant varieties Karsamba Red ASD-7 and Vellailangalayan. and the susceptible variety Jinheung which have been reported to the insect. The smaller brown planthopper much more prefered Tong-il for feeding than the resistant varieties ASD-7 and Vellailangalayan. The degree of antibiosis of Tong-il to the smaller brown planthopper was significantly lower than ASD-7 and Vellailangalayan. The results showed significantly lower nymphal mortality and higher adult emergence in Tong-il and Jinheung than other two resistant varieties. The degree o( tolerance of Tong-il to the insect was also lower than ASD-T and Vellailangalayan. Only. Tong-il seemed to be relatively more tolerable than Jinheung. The reason of showing resistant reaction of Tong-il in the mass screening test might be related with relatively lower feeding preference and more tolerance than Jinheung and other susceptible varieties.
