  • Objective : The objective of this study is to observe the effect of anti-inflammatory herbal acupuncture on the metatarsal tendinitis. Methods : After the application of herbal acupuncture, the VAS and Baumgaertner's nine point scale were assessed. If there were any restraints on the ROM, ROM was also assessed alongside the previous scales. Results : 1. The pain was reduced significantly according to the VAS scale. 2. As to the assessment of satisfaction in treatment, by the Baumgaertner's nine point scale, 2 out of 3 cases scored Excellent, and one case scored Good. Conclusions : The anti-inflammatory herbal acupuncture is effective to the metatarsal tendinitis, and can be used more frequently in the clinical practices.

  • This work includes the synthesis of 15 final compounds (6a-h and 7b-h) as prod rugs of 5-ASA in the form of the acid itself, esters and amides linked by an amide linkage through a spacer to the endocyclic ring N of nicotinamide. Also, 15 new intermediate compounds were prepared. The target compounds (6b, 6f, 7b, and 7e-h) revealed potent analgesic and anti-inflammatory activities in comparison to sulfasalazine and 5-ASA. In addition, ulcerogenicity, $LD_{50}$, in vivo and in vitro metabolism of compound 7f were determined.

  • In the previous studies. we confirmed the anti-inflammatory components of Kalopanax pictus bark using activity-guided fractionation in vivo. For the elucidation of anti-inflammatory mechanism, we evaluated the effects of these components on the inhibition of NF-$\sub$K/B activity and human leukocyte elastase. A cell-based assay system developed in our laboratory was used in transfectant RAW 264.7 cells. (omitted)

  • Objective : The objective of this study is to observe the effect of anti-inflammatory herbal acupuncture, acupuncture, physical theraphy, external treatment, therapeutic exercise on the osteochondritis dissecans. Methods : Anti-inflammatory herbal acupuncture and acupuncture were used to treat knee pain and gait disturbance. We evaluated the patient through VAS(visual analogue scale) daily and symptoms. Results & Conclusions : After 31 days of treatment, right knee pain was decreased from VAS 10 to VAS 4, redness, burning sensation, edemaright of right knee were decreased. And the patient could walk. Oriental medicine treatment is proved to be helpful to imporve the symptoms of the osteochondritis dissecans.

  • A series of new 6-aryl-3-(3,4-dimethoxy-phenyl)-2-phenylsulfanyl-imidazo[2,1-b]-thiazole (5a-c) and 6-aryl-2-benzenesulfonyl-3-(3,4-dimethoxy-phenyl)imidazo[2,1-b]- thiazole (6a-c) have been prepared and characterized by analytical and spectral methods. The title compounds 5a-c and 6a-c were obtained by the reaction of 4-(3,4-dimethoxy-phenyl)-5-phenylsulfanyl-thiazol-2-ylamine (3) and 5-benzenesulfonyl-4-(3,4-dimethoxy -phenyl)thiazol-2-ylamine (4) with various phenacyl bromides in anhydrous ethanol. These newly synthesized compounds (5a-c and 6a-c) were screened for their anthelmintic and anti-inflammatory activities, where they have displayed better activities.

  • A synthetic method for the title compounds (2a-o) was carried out. The title compounds (2a-o)were prepared by the condensation of various thioureas and maleic anhydride. Anti-inflammatory activities in vivo were evaluated and compared with standard drug diclofenac sodium. Some compounds showed moderate activity. The structures of all the new compounds were established on the basis of $^1H$ NMR and IR spectral data.

  • Fourteen melandrin derivatives(I-XIV) were investigated on analgesic, anti-inflammatory and antiviral activities . Compound I [N-(p-hydroxybenzoyl)-5-hydroxyanthranilic acid methvl ester], Xll [N-(2-phenoxypropionyl)-5-hydroxy anthranilic acid propyl ester and XIV [N-(2-phenoxypropionyl)-5-hydroxyanthranilic acid exhibited analgesic activity in tail pressure and Randall-Selitto method. But no anti-inflammatory activity was shown. Compound I exhibited weak antiviral activity on Herpes simplex virus type I F strain by virus-induced cytopathic effect(CPE) assay and it's selectivity index(Sl) was 8.17.

  • To investigate anti-inflammatory activity of Noni extracts, we measured the phospholipase $A_2$ activity using both in vitro and in vivo system. Water soluble fraction of Noni extracts did not affect melittin-induced arachidonic acid release, whereas lipid soluble fraction inhibited it in a dose dependent manner in Raw 264.7 cells. The purified phospholipase $A_2$ activity was dose-dependently inhibited by lipid soluble fraction of Noni extracts but not by its water soluble fraction. Lipid peroxidation, myeloperoxidase and phospholipase $A_2$ activity in incised skin of mice were significantly increased as compared with those in non-incised skin, and these increase was attenuated by the treatment with Noni powder. Our data suggest that Noni extracts has anti-inflammatory activity, and this is, in part, caused by inhibitory activity of phospholipase $A_2$.

  • The results of the comparison among the effect of 'Bingso-San' extract powder, 'Kamibingso-San' extract powder, separately extracted 'Bingso-San' extract powder and separately extracted 'Kamibingso-San" extract powder are as follows: 1) All prescriptions were tested for analgesic effects in mouse, having pain caused by acetic acid, and their voluntarinesses were recognized. And separately extracted 'Kamibingso-San' extract powder has the most effective analgesic function, then 'Kamibingso-San' extract powder, then 'Bingso-San' extract powder, then separately extracted 'Bingso-San' extract powder. 2) The anti-inflammatory effects of 'Bingso-San' extract powder and 'Kamibingso-San' extract powder on the edema at the rat paw showed significantly statistical value than those of the other prescriptions. 3) According to the above mentioned results it was concluded that the addition of Olibanum and Clematidis Radix strengthen the algesic effect of 'Bingso-San' and there is addition in the anti-inflammatory effect of the 'Bingso-San' extract powder.
