  • An unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) is an aircraft controlled by .emote commands from ground station and/o. pre-programmed onboard autopilot system. A navigation system in the UAV provides a navigation data for a flight control computer(FCC). The FCC requires accurate and reliable position, velocity and attitude information for guidance and control. This paper proposes an ADGPS/INS integrated navigation system for a UAV. The proposed navigation system comprises an attitude determination GPS (ADGPS) receive., a navigation computer unit, and a low-cost commercial MEMS inertial measurement unit(IMU). The navigation algorithm contains a fault detection and isolation (FDI) function fur integrity. In order to evaluate the performance of the proposed navigation system, two flight tests were preformed using a small aircraft. The first flight test was carried out to confirm fundamental operation of the proposed navigation system and to check the effectiveness of the FDI algorithm. In the second flight test, the navigation performance and the benefit of the GPS attitude information were checked in a high dynamic environment. The flight test results show that the proposed ADGPS/INS integrated navigation system gives a reliable performance even when anomalous GPS data is provided and better navigation performance than a conventional GPS/INS integration unit.

  • In gravity data correction process, mass effect of the upper part of base level is removed with Bouguer density. Usually, Bouguer density is estimated as a mean density in the field area. But, this may causes a serious problem when ore body is in the area. To overcome this problem, we tried to apply a new method mixing up mass corrections and inversion (3DGTI). 3-D Gravity Terrain Inversion (3DGTI) includes information of topography and distribution of Bouguer density. For this method does not remove the mass effect above base level, it is no longer useless to use Bouguer density. Numerical model tests have shown that the 3DGIT successfully retrieves the anomalous subsurface density distribution of both surface and deeper layers. Model tests shows that this method shows better results than those of conventional one, especially when main target is ore body. The inversion result well delineates the three-dimensional shape of the intruded granite body and basement.

  • It is important to understand the variability of tropospheric ozone since it is both a major pollutant affecting human health and a greenhouse gas influencing global climate. We analyze the characteristics of East Asia tropospheric ozone simulated in a chemistry-climate model. We use a global chemical transport model, driven by the prescribed meteorological fields from an air-sea coupled climate model simulation. Compared with observed data, the ozone simulation shows differences in distribution and concentration levels; in the vicinity of the Korean Peninsula, a large error occurred in summer. Our analysis reveals that this bias is mainly due to the difference in atmospheric circulation, as the anomalous southerly winds lead to the decrease in tropospheric ozone in this region. In addition, observational data have shown that the western North Pacific subtropical high (WNPSH) reduces tropospheric ozone across the southern China/Korean Peninsula/Japan region. In the model, the ozone changes associated with WNPSH are shifted westward relative to the observations. Our findings suggest that the variations in WNPSH should be considered in predicting tropospheric ozone concentrations.

  • Purpose - Many studies report that returns on hedge portfolios that eliminate particular risk types are abnormal from traditional asset pricing models' perspectives. This study examines the pervasiveness of anomalous returns conditioned on business cycle and group size. Research design, data, and methodology - Using KOSPI and KOSDAQ market data from July 1991 to December 2013, we categorize stocks into appropriately sized groups, and dichotomize our sample periods into expansion and recession periods then, we construct hedge portfolios by sorting stocks by anomaly variables and calculate their returns. Results - Four anomalies, including earnings yield, net stock issue, total asset growth, and liquidity appear pervasive across all groups for the entire sample period. However, only the hedge returns of net stock issues are significant across all group sizes during both expansion and recession. Conclusions - A net stock issue can be an appropriate proxy for expected growth of book equity for all group sizes in recessions. This finding could provide insights to investment industry participants and to researchers interested in the relationship between expected growth of book equity and business cycle risk.

  • High-Tc superconducting materials, $HoBa_2Cu_3O_{7-x}F_y$ with $0.0{\leq}y{\leq}0.5$, were synthesized by ceramic method and studied by X-ray diffraction, thermogravimetric analysis, differential thermal analysis, scanning electron microscopy and resistivity measurement. From the X-ray diffraction data, it was found that the samples had only single phase of which lattice volumes were decreased in proportional to the amount of fluorine, which indicated that the relatively small fluorine atoms are effectively substituted for the oxygen sites. Also, an anomalous phenomenon appeared that the peak intensities of (001) planes were greatly increased as fluorine contents increased. SEM photographs revealed that the grain sizes were enlarged progressively with fluorine contents. This fact could be explained along with DTA & TGA data that the incorporation of fluorine gave rise to lowering the melting point. Tc decreased as the incorporation of fluorine content increased. This implies that the superconducting electrons are perturbed due to the substitution of electronegative fluorine atom.

  • In this study, Ocean General Circulation Model (OGCM) has been developed as a counterpart of Atmospheric General Circulation (AGCM) for the study of coupled ocean-atmosphere climate system. The oceanic responses to given atmospheric boundary conditions have been investigated using the OGCM. In an integration carried out over 100 simulated years with climatological monthly mean data (EXP 1), most parts of the model reached a quasi-equilibrium climate reproducing many of the observed large-scale oceanic features remarkably well. Some observed narrow currents, however, such as North Equatorial Counter Current, were inevitably distorted due to the model's relatively coarse resolution. The seasonal changes in sea ice cover over the southern oceans around Antarctica were also simulated. In an experiment (EXP 2) under boundary condition of 10-year monthly data (1982-1991) from NCEP/NCAR Reanalysis Project model properly reproduced major oceanic changes during the period, including El Ni$\tilde{n}$os of 1982-1983 and 1986-87. During the ENSO periods, the experiment showed eastward expansion of warm surface waters and a negative vertical velocity anomalies along' the equator in response to expansion of westerly current velocity anomalies as westerly wind anomalies propagated eastward. Simulated anomalous distribution and the time behavior in response to El Ni$\tilde{n}$o events is consistent with that of the observations. These experiments showed that the model has an ability to reproduce major mean and anomalous oceanic features and can be effectively used for the study of ocean-atmosphere coupling system.

  • For the purpose of maintenance and prevention of earth fill dams against damage from natural hazards, automatic monitoring through various measuring instruments and resistivity survey has been carried out. Reservoirs and embankments have the structural vulnerability on the agricultural usages since most of them were built more than thirty years ago. The main aim to use monitoring method is to verify the safety and integrity of the dam. Resistivity survey can detect potential weaknesses, such as defective zones, anomalous seepages or internal erosion processes. Permanent resistivity monitoring systems were installed at a reservoir, which daily measurements have been taken every 6 hour. Using monitoring data for one year, anomalous seepage and structural defects were clarified for dam safety. Annual water level fluctuations are around 10 m. During their operation, reservoir dams are subject to a never-ending hydraulic load from the reservoir, which over the years may cause changes in the properties of the inner parts of the dam construction. Detailed analysis of the monitoring results was performed and showed that resistivities at most locations have been very stable over the full monitoring period excluding the effects of water fluctuation and seasons. To investigate the detectability of weak zone using the DC resistivity monitoring, numerical modeling with a simplified model for the drainage at a reservoir dam was also performed. The results showed that the seepage zone near drainage in a reservoir dam could be detected by resistivity response change.

  • In this study, we present a comparative analysis of major autoencoder(AE)-based anomaly detection methods for quality determination in the manufacturing process and a new anomaly discrimination criterion. Due to the characteristics of manufacturing site, anomalous instances are few and their types greatly vary. These properties degrade the performance of an AI-based anomaly detection model using the dataset for both normal and anomalous cases, and incur a lot of time and costs in obtaining additional data for performance improvement. To solve this problem, the studies on AE-based models such as AE and VAE are underway, which perform anomaly detection using only normal data. In this work, based on Convolutional AE, VAE, and Dilated VAE models, statistics on residual images, MSE, and information entropy were selected as outlier discriminant criteria to compare and analyze the performance of each model. In particular, the range value applied to the Convolutional AE model showed the best performance with AUC PRC 0.9570, F1 Score 0.8812 and AUC ROC 0.9548, accuracy 87.60%. This shows a performance improvement of an accuracy about 20%P(Percentage Point) compared to MSE, which was frequently used as a standard for determining outliers, and confirmed that model performance can be improved according to the criteria for determining outliers.

  • The purpose of this study was to compare the processes of making hypotheses concerning the anomalous path of Wukong, a typhoon that came close to Korea recently, between an earth scientist and undergraduate students. Data were obtained through interviews with a practicing earth scientist as well as five undergraduate students. Inquiry reports of the students were also analysed. The result showed that while the earth scientist conducted a case study with already-established models of typhoon, the students were enabled to work on the specific case of Wukong only after they learned general theories on typhoons. Background knowledge played an important role for the scientist and students to formulate scientific hypotheses. Both the earth scientist and undergraduate students generate multiple working hypotheses, and they considered a couple of conditions to select more plausible hypotheses, including theoretical coherence, causative processes, and consistency with empirical data. Despite these similarities, there were differences in the scope and depth of background knowledge between the scientist and students. In addition, it was not likely that the undergraduate students possessed explicit perceptions of the conditions which could make a hypothesis more probable, except for the empirical consistency. Implications for science education and relevant research were discussed.

  • Information systems has been developed and used in various business area, therefore there are abundance of history data (log data) stored, and subsequently, it is required to analyze those log data. Previous studies have been focusing on the discovering of relationship between events and no identification of anomaly instances. Previously, anomaly instances are treated as noise and simply ignored. However, this kind of anomaly instances can occur repeatedly. Hence, a new methodology to detect the anomaly instances is needed. In this paper, we propose a methodology of LAPID (Local Anomaly Process Instance Detection) for discriminating an anomalous process instance from the log data. We specified a distance metric from the activity relation matrix of each instance, and use it to detect API (Anomaly Process Instance). For verifying the suggested methodology, we discovered characteristics of exceptional situations from log data. To demonstrate our proposed methodology, we performed our experiment on real data from a domestic port terminal.
