Electrochemical capacitor made with metal oxide electrode uses rapid and reversible protonation/deprotonation of metal oxide material under the aqueous acidic solution, generally. Electrochemical stability window of aqueous electrolyte-type capacitor is narrow compared to that of organic electrolyte-type capacitor. Electrochemical characteristics of electrochemical capacitor made with metal oxide electrode and lithium or ammonium cation based organic electrolyte were evaluated. Electrochemical capacitor based on $RuO_2$ electrode material and 1M $LiPF_6$ in mixed solvents of EC, DEC, and EMC has anodic and cathodic specific capacitance of 145 and $142F/g-RuO_2{\cdot}nH_2O$, respectively, by using cyclic voltammetry with scan rate of 2mV/sec $g-RuO_2$ in potential range of $2.0\~4.2V(Li|Li^+))$.
In this study, magnetite ($Fe_3O_4$) nanoparticles were electrochemically synthesized in an aqueous electrolyte at a given potential of -1.3 V for 180 s. Scanning electron microscopy revealed that dendrite-like $Fe_3O_4$ nanoparticles with a mean size of < 80 nm were electrodeposited on a glassy carbon electrode (GCE). The $Fe_3O_4/GCE$ was utilized for sensing chloramphenicol (CAP) by cyclic voltammetry and square wave voltammetry. A reduction peak of CAP at the $Fe_3O_4/GCE$ was observed at 0.62 V, whereas the uncoated GCE exhibited a very small response compared to that of the $Fe_3O_4/GCE$. The electrocatalytic ability of $Fe_3O_4$ was mainly attributed to the formation of Fe(VI) during the anodic scan, and its reduction to Fe(III) on the cathodic scan facilitated the sensing of CAP. The effects of pH and scan rate were measured to determine the optimum conditions at which the $Fe_3O_4/GCE$ exhibited the highest sensitivity with a lower detection limit. The reduction current for CAP was proportional to its concentration under optimized conditions in a range of $0.09-47{\mu}M$ with a correlation coefficient of 0.9919 and a limit of detection of $0.09{\mu}M$ (S/N=3). Moreover, the fabricated sensor exhibited anti-interference ability towards 4-nitrophenol, thiamphenicol, and 4-nitrobenzamide. The developed electrochemical sensor is a cost effective, reliable, and straightforward approach for the electrochemical determination of CAP in real time applications.

Macrofore formation in silicon and other semiconductors using electrochemical etching processes has been, in the last years, a subject of great attention of both theory and practice. Its first reason of concern is new areas of macropore silicone applications arising from microelectromechanical systems processing (MEMS), membrane techniques, solar cells, sensors, photonic crystals, and new technologies like a silicon-on-nothing (SON) technology. Its formation mechanism with a rich variety of controllable microstructures and their many potential applications have been studied extensively recently. Porous silicon is formed by anodic etching of crystalline silicon in hydrofluoric acid. During the etching process holes are required to enable the dissolution of the silicon anode. For p-type silicon, holes are the majority charge carriers, therefore porous silicon can be formed under the action of a positive bias on the silicon anode. For n-type silicon, holes to dissolve silicon is supplied by illuminating n-type silicon with above-band-gap light which allows sufficient generation of holes. To make a desired three-dimensional nano- or micro-structures, pre-structuring the masked surface in KOH solution to form a periodic array of etch pits before electrochemical etching. Due to enhanced electric field, the holes are efficiently collected at the pore tips for etching. The depletion of holes in the space charge region prevents silicon dissolution at the sidewalls, enabling anisotropic etching for the trenches. This is correct theoretical explanation for n-type Si etching. However, there are a few experimental repors in p-type silicon, while a number of theoretical models have been worked out to explain experimental dependence observed. To perform ordered macrofore formaion for p-type silicon, various kinds of mask patterns to make initial KOH etch pits were used. In order to understand the roles played by the kinds of etching solution in the formation of pillar arrays, we have undertaken a systematic study of the solvent effects in mixtures of HF, N-dimethylformamide (DMF), iso-propanol, and mixtures of HF with water on the macrofore structure formation on monocrystalline p-type silicon with a resistivity varying between 10 ~ 0.01 $\Omega$ cm. The etching solution including the iso-propanol produced a best three dimensional pillar structures. The experimental results are discussed on the base of Lehmann's comprehensive model based on SCR width.

The pitting corrosion behaviors between the constituent phases in F53 super duplex stainless steel (SDSS) in acidified chloride environments were investigated using a critical pitting corrosion temperature test, a potentiodynamic anodic polarization test, and the microstructure analyses through a SEM-EDS and a SAM. As the solution annealing temperature decreased from $1150^{\circ}C$ to $1050^{\circ}C$, the ${\gamma}$-phase fraction increased whereas the ${\alpha}$-phase fraction decreased. The pitting potential and the critical pitting temperature increased with a decrease of solution annealing temperature, thereby increasing the resistance to pitting corrosion. The pitting corrosion of the SDSS was selectively initiated at the ${\alpha}$-phases because the PREN (pitting resistance equivalent number, PREN = %Cr+3.3%Mo+30%N) value of the ${\gamma}$-phase is much larger than that of the ${\alpha}$-phase, irrespective of the solution annealing temperature. The pitting corrosion was finally propagated from the ${\alpha}$-phase to the ${\gamma}$-phase. The decrease of solution annealing temperature enhanced the resistance to pitting corrosion greatly in acidified chloride environments due to a decrease of PREN difference between the ${\gamma}$-phase and the ${\alpha}$-phase, that is, a decrease of $PREN{\gamma}$ by dilution of N in ${\gamma}$-phase with an increase in the ${\gamma}$-phase volume fraction and an increase of $PREN{\alpha}$ by enrichment of Cr and Mo in the ${\alpha}$-phase with a decrease in the ${\alpha}$-phase volume fraction.

Since the oil price has been significantly jumped for recent some years, the diesel engine of the merchant ship has been mainly used the heavy oil of low quality. Thus, it has been often exposed to severely corrosive environment more and more because temperature of the exhaust gas in a combustion chamber is getting higher and higher with increasing of using the heavy oil of low quality. As a result, wear and corrosion of most parts surrounded with combustion chamber is more serious compared to the other parts of the engine. Therefore, an optimum weldment for these parts is very important to prolong their lifetime in a economical point of view. In this study, four types of filler metals such as Inconel 625, 718, 1.25Cr-0.5Mo and 0.5Mo were welded with SMAW and GTAW methods in the forged steel which would be generally used with piston crown material. And the corrosion properties of weld metal, heat affected zone and base metal were investigated using electrochemical methods such as measurement of corrosion potential, anodic polarization curves, cyclic voltammogram and impedance etc. in 35% H2SO4 solution. The weld metal and base metal exhibited the best and worst corrosion resistance in all cases of filler metals. In particular, the weld metal welded with filler metals of Inconel 718 revealed the best corrosion resistance among the filler metals, and Inconel 625 followed the Inconel 718. Hardness relatively indicated higher value in the weld metal compared to the base metal. Furthermore, Inconel 625 and 718 indicated higher values of hardness compared to 1.25cr-0.5Mo and 0,5Mo filler metals in the weld metal.
Recently, the fuel oil of diesel engines of marine ships has been increasingly changed to heavy oil of low quality as the oil price is getting higher and higher. Therefore, the spiral gear attached at the motor of the oil purifier which plays an important role to purify the heavy oil is also easy to expose at severe environmental condition due to the purification of the heavy oil in higher temperature. Thus, the material of the spiral gear requires a better mechanical strength, wear and corrosion resistance. In this study, the heat treatment(tempering) with various holding time at temperature of $500^{\circ}C$ was carried out to the alloy of Cu-7Al-2.5Si as centrifugal casting, and the properties of both hardness and corrosion resistance with and without heat treatment were investigated with observation of the microstructure and with electrochemical methods, such as measurement of corrosion potential, cathodic and anodic polarization curves, cyclic voltammogram, and a.c. impedance. in natural seawater solution. The ${\alpha}$, ${\beta}^{\prime}$ and ${\gamma}_2$ phases were observed in the material in spite of no heat treatment due to quenching effect of a spin mold. However, their phases, that is, ${\beta}^{\prime}$ and ${\gamma}_2$ phases decreased gradually with increasing the holding time at a constant temperature of $500^{\circ}C$. The hardness more or less decreased with heat treatment, however its corrosion resistance was improved with the heat treatment. Furthermore, the longer holding time, the better corrosion resistance. In addition, when the holding time was 48hrs, its corrosion current density showed the lowest value. The pattern of corroded surface was nearly similar to that of the pitting corrosion, and this morphology was greatly observed in the case of no heat treatment. It is considered that ${\gamma}_2$ phase at the grain boundary was corroded preferentially as an anode. However, the pattern of general corrosion exhibited increasingly due to decreasing the ${\gamma}_2$ phase with heat treatment. Consequently, it is suggested that the corrosion resistance of Cu-7Al-2.5Si alloy can be improved with the heat treatment as a holding time for 48 hrs at $500^{\circ}C$.

This study was attempted to evaluate home-manufactured implants by placing $Stage-1^{(R)}$ Implant (Lifecore, Co., USA) whose surface is treated with REM that has already been varified clinically,$Chaorum^{(R)}$ Implant(Chaorum Co., Korea) whose surface treatment is same as that of Stage-1 Implant and $Atlas^{(R)}$ Implant(Cewellmedi Co., Korea) whose surface is treated with anodic oxidation immediately after the teeth of experimental animals were extracted to compare histological findings among them. Stage-l Implant(diameter: 3.5mm, length: IOmm), Chaorum Implant(diameter: 3.3mm, length: 8.5mm) and Cowell medi Implant(diameter: 4.0mm, length: 8.0mm) were placed into the mandible premolars of 2 adult beagle dogs immediately after their teeth were extracted, and then histological findings were analyzed at 6 weeks. After those implants were inserted directly after their teeth were extracted, the results of periotest were recorded, radiography was done, the subjects went through thorough control for 6 weeks, and then comparison among periotest, radiography and histological finding was made. After comparison of those findings, the values of periotest were satisfactory and bone healing was relatively satisfactory on radiography at 6 weeks. For osseointegration with the bone tissue, Stage-1 was 45.3%, Chaorum 55.3%, and Cowellmedi 52.5%, which was a satisfactory result. Although implant surgery immediately after teeth were extracted involves difficulties among recent implant surgeries, it is being frequently used in that it may reduce surgery hours, the frequency of surgery, and bone loss for patients. This experiment was conducted to evaluate the technological levels of home-manufactured implants that have been remarkably developed in recent years and in conclusion, those implants showed nearly similar result.
Anodic oxide films on aluminum play an important role as a dielectrics in aluminum electrolytic capacitor. In order to obtain the high capacitance, ZrO$_2$ films were coated on aluminum foils by sol-gel method and then, the properties of anodized films were studied. The coating and drying of the films were repeated 4-10 times and annealed at 300~$600^{\circ}C$ and the triple layer of ZrO$_2$/Al-ZrO$_{x}$ /Al$_2$O$_3$ was formed onto aluminum substrates after anodizing of ZrO$_2$/Al film. The thickness of $Al_2$O$_3$ layer was decreased with increasing the annealing temperature due to the densification of ZrO$_2$ film. The ZrO$_2$ films were crystallized even at 30$0^{\circ}C$ and showed nanocrystalline structure. The. capacitance of aluminum foil annealed at low temperature was higher than that at high temperature. The increase of capacitance was due to the high capacitance of ZrO$_2$ film annealed at low temperature. The capacitance of ZrO$_2$ coated aluminum increased about 3 times compared to that without a ZrO$_2$ layer after anodizing to 400 V. From these results, the aluminum foils with composite oxide layers are found to be applicable to the aluminum electrolytic capacitor.
Titanium and its alloys are finding increasing use in medical devices and dental implants. The strong selling point of titanium is its resistance to the highly corrosive body fluids in which an implant must survive. This corrosion resistance is due to a tenacious passive oxide or film which exists on the metal's surface and renders it passive. Potentiodynamic polarization measurement is one of the most commonly used electro-chemical methods that have been applied to measure corrosion rates. And the potentiodynamic polarization test supplies detailed information such as open circuit, rupture, and passivation potential. Furthermore, it indicates the passive range and sensitivity to pitting corrosion. This study was designed to compare the corrosion resistance of the commonly used dental implant materials such as CP Ti, Ti-6A1-4V, Co-Cr-Mo alloy, and 316L stainless steel. And the effects of galvanic couples between titanium and the dental alloys were assessed for their useful-ness-as. materials for superstructure. The working electrode is the specimen , the reference electrode is a saturated calomel electrode (SCE), and the counter electrode is made of carbon. In $N_2-saturated$ 0.9% NaCl solutions, the potential scanning was performed starting from -800mV (SCE) and the scan rate was 1 mV/sec. At least three different polarization measurements were carried out for each material on separate specimen. The galvanic corrosion measurements were conducted in the zero-shunt ammeter with an implant supraconstruction surface ratio of 1:1. The contact current density was recorded over a 24-hour period. The results were as follows : 1. In potential-time curve, all specimens became increasingly more noble after immersion in the test solution and reached between -70mV and 50mV (SCE) respectively after 12 hours. 2. The Ti and Ti alloy in the saline solution were most resistant to corrosion. They showed the typical passive behavior which was exhibited over the entire experimental range. Therefore no breakdown potentials were observed. 3. Comparing the rupture potentials, Ti and Ti alloy had the high(:st value (because their break-down potentials were not observed in this study potential range ) followed by Co-Cr-Mo alloy and stainless steel (316L). So , the corrosion resistance of titanium was cecellent, Co-Cr-Mo alloy slightly inferior and stainless steel (316L) much less. 4. The contact current density sinks faster than any other galvanic couple in the case of Ti/gold alloy. 5. Ag-Pd alloy coupled with Ti yielded high current density in the early stage. Furthermore, Ti became anodic. 6. Ti/Ni-Cr alloy showed a relatively high galvanic current and a tendency to increase.
In connection with the safe storage of high level nuclear waste, effect of $H_2O$$_2$ on the corrosion behavior of 304L stainless steel was examined. Open circuit potentials and polarization curves were measured with and without $H_2O$$_2$. The experimental results show that $H_2O$$_2$ increased corrosion potential and decreased pitting potential. The passive range, therefore, decreased as $H_2O$$_2$ concentration increased, indicating that pitting resistance was decreased by the existence of $H_2O$$_2$ in the electrolyte. These effect of $H_2O$$_2$ on corrosion of 304L stainless steel are considered to be similar to those of ${\gamma}$-irradiation. To compare the effects of $H_2O$$_2$ with those of $O_2$, cathodic and anodic polarization curves ore made in three types of electrolyte such as aerated, deaerated, and stirred electrolyte. The experimental results show that the effects of $H_2O$$_2$ on the corrosion behavior were tory similar to those of $O_2$ such as increase of corrosion potential, decrease of pitting resistance, and increase of repassivation potential. In acid and alkaline media, the corrosion potential shifts by $H_2O$$_2$ were restricted by the large current density of proton reduction and by the le Chatelier's principle respectively.y.
