An elasto-plastic constitutive model was Proposed, in which the behavior at small-to-large strain level can be modeled. From a mathematical approach it was proved that the model includes the previous successful models. The experimental results of a series of resonant column tests, torsional shear tests and triaxial tests were verified and as a result the proposed model could predict small-to-large strain behavior more consistently and accurately than the hyperbolic model and the Ramberg-Osgood model for a weathered granitic soil.
This paper verifies the accuracy and efficiency of the implicit stress integration algorithm for an anisotropic hardening constitutive model developed in a companion paper[Oh & Lee (1996)3. Simulation of undrained triaxial test results shows the accuracy of the method through an error estimation, and analyses of accuracy and convergence were performed for a numerical excavation problem. As a result, the stress was accurately integrated by the algorithm and the nonlinear solution was converged to be asymptotically quadratic. Furthermore nonlinear FE analysis of a real excavation problem was by performed considering the initial soil conditions and the in-situ construction sequences. The displacements of wall induced by excavation were more accurately estimated by the anisotropic hardening model than by the Cam-clay model.

It is experimentally well-known that high anisotropies of the turbulent flow field are dominant inside the tip leakage vortex, which is attributable to a substantial proportion of the total loss and constitutes one of the dominant mechanisms of the noise generation. This anisotropic nature of turbulence invalidates the use of the conventional isotropic eddy viscosity turbulence models based on the Boussinesq assumption. In this study, to check whether an anisotropic turbulence model is superior to the isotropic ones or not, the results obtained from the steady-state Reynolds averaged Navier-Stokes simulations based on the RNG k-$\varepsilon$ model and the Reynolds stress model (RSM) are compared with experimental data for two test cases: a linear compressor cascade and a forward-swept axial-flow fan. Through this comparative study of turbulence models, it is clearly shown that the RSM, which can express the production term and body-force term induced by system rotation without introducing any modeling, should be used to predict quantitatively the complex tip leakage flow, especially in the rotating environment.

An improved analysis model for material nonlinearity induced by elasto-plastic deformation and damage including large strain response was proposed. The elasto-plastic-damage constitutive model based on the continuum damage mechanics approach was adopted to overcome limitations of the conventional plastic theory, which can manage the anisotropic tonsorial damages evolved during time-independent plastic deformation process of materials. Updated Lagrangian finite element formulation for elasto-plastic damage coupling problem including large deformation, large rotation and large strain problems was completed to develop a numerical model which can predict all kinds of structural nonlinearities and damage rationally. Finally, a finite element analysis code for the 2-dimensional plane problem was developed and the applicability and validity of the numerical model was investigated through some numerial examples. Calculations showed reasonable results in both geometrical nonlinear problem due to large deformation and material nonlinearity including the damage effect.
When tunnels or underground structures are constructed in anisotropic rock mass, designers and constructors have to consider the anisotropic characteristics in rock mass because their physical and mechanical properties are depended on the anisotropic angles(${\beta}$). In this study, therefore, we have first investigated the mechanical behavior of the gneiss specimen from lab. tests, and then have analysed the behavior of specimens for to the transversely isotropic model in elastic medium using the FLAC program. The results of this study were summarized as follows; 1) In the result of the variation tests, in general, the properties of strength were depended on the angle of inclination in spite of the hard rock. And except for the shear strength test, the lowest and peak stress were appeared at 60$^{\circ}$ and 90$^{\circ}$respectively. 2) The results of specimen modeling analysis using FDM well indicated the mechanical behaviors of the specimen of transversely isotropic model.

The exact model of impact ionization events in which has influence on device efficiency, is to be necessary element for device simulation. Recently, a modified Keldysh formula with two set of power exponent of 7.8 and 5.6 is used to simulate carrier transport. This model is, however, not suitable as impact ionization model in low energy range since this ignore direction dependent properties of impact ionization. The impact ionization rate is highly anisotropic at low energy, while it becomes isotropic at higher energy range. Note that impact ionization events frequently occur in high energy range. For calculating impart ionization rate, we use full energy band structure derived from Fermi's golden rule and empirical pseudopotential method. We compare with calculated and experimental value, and investigate direction dependent conduction energy band structure along the direction of <100>, <110> and <111>. We know that the threshold energy of impact ionization is anisotropic and impact ionization rate is very deviated from modified Keldish formula, in relatively low energy range.
Since standardized fracture test specimens cannot be easily extracted from in-service components, several alternative fracture toughness test methods have been proposed to characterize the deformation and fracture resistance of materials. One of the more promising alternatives is the local approach employing the SP(Small Punch) testing technique. However, this process has several limitations such as a lack of anisotropic yield potential and tediousness in the damage parameter calibration process. The present paper investigates estimation of ductile fracture resistance(J-R) curve by FE(Finite Element) analyses using an anisotropic damage model and enhanced calibration procedure. In this context, specific tensile tests to quantify plastic strain ratios were carried out and SP test data were obtained from the previous research. Also, damage parameters constituting the Gurson-Tvergaard-Needleman model in conjunction with Hill's 48 yield criterion were calibrated for a typical nuclear reactor material through a genetic algorithm. Finally, the J-R curve of a standard compact tension specimen was predicted by further detailed FE analyses employing the calibrated damage parameters. It showed a lower fracture resistance of the specimen material than that based on the isotropic yield criterion. Therefore, a more realistic J-R curve of a reactor material can be obtained effectively from the proposed methodology by taking into account a reduced load-carrying capacity due to anisotropy.
The probabilistic and statistical model is used to estimate the probability of liquefaction potential and pore water pressure build up due to earthquake in fully saturated sand deposit for each case of being structure(anisotropic) or not(isotropic). To execute this paper, dynamic shear strength parameters to show the relationship between shear strength and cyclic loading under isotropic or anisotropic condition in saturated sand deposit are presented. Using these parameters, the program which Predicts Pore water Pressure build up due to earthquake is developed. Using the 3-dimensional Random Field Model considering uncertainty of resistance and strength parameter, the program which computes the probability of liquefaction potential is developed. The developed program is applied to a case study, and then the result shows that the probability of liquefaction in isotropic condition is higher than in anisotropic condition. The ratio of pore water pressure tends to decrease as Kc increases.

Mark III CCS plate is considered in this paper to perform its strength assessment. Mark III CCS plate is designed and constructed by stacking various non-metallic engineering materials such as plywood, triplex and reinforced PU foam that are supported by series of mastic upon inner steel hull structure. From the viewpoint of structural analysis, this plated structure is treated as a laminated anisotropic structure. Commercially available general purpose finite element analysis programs such as MSC PATRAN and MARC are used to develop the finite element (FE) model of the Mark III CCS plate. Because of the characteristics of LNG cargo that the Mark III CCS plate deals with, it is subjected to a wide range of temperature variations, i.e. about $-163^{\circ}C$ to $20^{\circ}C$. Different material properties of the Mark III CCS plate at these temperature levels are considered in the FE model. Using the developed FE model, strength assessment procedure is developed incorporating various anisotropic failure criteria such as Hashin, Hill, Hoffman, Maximum stress and Tsai-Wu. The strength assessment is performed within the initial failure state of the Mark III CCS plate and, as a result, failure details such as failure locations and loads are identified.
