  • In this study, the anionic emulsified asphalt was prepared by dispersing asphalt particles evenly into water with combination of anionic and nonionic surfactants. Effects of NaOH and $CaCl_2$ on the phase stability of the emulsified asphalt were also investigated through zeta potential value and rheology behavior; the emulsified asphalt added with NaOH and $CaCl_2$ showed higher zeta potential value than that the asphalt with addition of only anionic and nonionic surfactants. In addition, with regard to shear thinning behaviors, it was found that pH of the emulsified anionic asphalt and $Ca^{2+}$, counter ion, affected the phase stability. SBR (styrene-butadiene-rubber) latex, EPD (water dispersed Epoxy), PU (polyurethane) and RI-10S, SBS (styrene-butadiene-styrene)-based property improvement additive, were used and studied to enhance the adhesion properties with the aggregates. RI-10S, however, was found to be only compatible with the anionic emulsified asphalt; the coating rate, adhesion and compression strength were increased with the RI-10S content.

  • Whereas cationic extracellular peroxidases (PODs) were observed in the suspension cultures of rose (Rosa sp. L. cv Pual's scarlet) grown under normal conditions, new anionic isozymes were induced within 24 hr by the treatment of low host-specific elicitor (10 mg glucan/L media) prepared from yeast cell wall. Prominent anionic (pI 6.1) and cationic POD (pI 8.4) were purified and characterized to understand the physiological role of the enzymes. Both enzymes were purified (ca.200 fold) by the ammonium sulfate precipitation, ion exchange chromate-graphy and gel filtration chromatography. The Km values of the purified anionic POD for ferulic acid and $\textrm{H}_2\textrm{O}_2$ were 4.64 mM and 0.72 mM, whereas those of the cationic POD were 1.38 mM and 0.48 mM, respetively. The activity of the anionic POD as NADH oxidase was twice higher than that of cationic POD. The NADH oxidation in the anionic POD fraction was inhibited by 60% on the addition of 0.1 mM coniferyl alcohol, while that in the cationic fraction was inhibited by 15%.

  • Detergency and surface active properties of mixed anionic surfactants with amphoteric and nonionic were investigated. Sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) and ammonium dodecyl sulfate (ADS) as anionic surfactants and cocamidopropyl betaine (CAPB) as an amphoteric surfactant were used. Nonionic surfactants, which are butyl glucoside (BG), octyl glucoside (OG), decyl glucoside (DG), lauryl dimethylamine oxide (AO) and saponin were also used. To study the synergy effects of mixed SDS/ADS anionic surfactant systems, amphoteric and nonionic surfactants were added into the mixed anionic surfactants. Investigated properties of surfactant mixtures were critical micelle concentration (CMC), surface tension (${\gamma}$), wettability. In addition, based on these properties, detergency of each sample was examined. Surfactant mixtures are anionics (SDS/ADS), anionic/amphoteric/nonionic (SDS/ADS/CAPB/saponin), and anionic/nonionic (SDS/ADS/BG/saponin, SDS/ADS/OG/saponin, SDS/ADS/DG/saponin, and SDS/ADS/AO/saponin). With the addition of amphoteric and nonionic to mixed anionic surfactants, CMC and ${\gamma}$ were decreased. Addition of CAPB, which is amphoteric, showed the best property at CMC and ${\gamma}$. Furthermore, as the chain length of hydrocarbon in alkyl glucosides was increased, the CMC and ${\gamma}$ were enhanced. However, the wettability did not exactly match up with CMC and ${\gamma}$. The surfactant mixture, which contained DG, showed the best performance at wetting time. Detergency was measured at various temperatures ($15^{\circ}C$, $30^{\circ}C$, $50^{\circ}C$). The cleaning performance was enhanced by increasing washing temperature. Moreover, detergency was influenced by not only CMC and ${\gamma}$ but also wettability. Although CMC and ${\gamma}$ were not minimum at surfactant mixture that included DG, the best cleaning performance showed in that sample.

  • Anionic peroxidases (POD) were isolated from Korean radish (Raphanus sativus L.) root by using fractionation with $(NH_4)_2SO_4$ and CM-cellulose ion exchange chromatography and used as the colorimetric enzyme for glucose determination. The chromogen used in this work was o-tolidine or 4-aminoantipyrine/diethylaniline (4AA/DEA) and the colored products were measured at 630 nm. Korean radish anionic POD showed much better colorimetric reaction of glucose determination with 4AA/DEA than with o-tolidine. The r values of calibration curve for glucose determination by o-tolidine and 4AA/DEA were 0.9983 and 0.9963, respectively. In order to compare the reactivity for substrate oxidation by Korean radish POD and horseradish POD, the Km values against o-dianisidine and guaiacol were measured. Korean radish POD had about 40 fold higher affinity for o-dianisidine and 2 fold higher affinity for guaiacol as revealed by Km values. These results showed that Korean radish POD could be developed as the colorimetric diagnosis reagent for glucose determination with high sensitivity.

  • To be dyed with cationic Berberine, the cotton fiber was modified with reactive anionic agent. The Berberine, a natural cationic colorant of pure yellow, is the major component of Amur Cork tree extract and also can be employed as a natural antimicrobial agent due to its characteristic of cationic quaternary ammonium salt. By LC/MS analysis, it became obvious that the Berberine was contained in Amur Cork tree extract as a major color component. The adsorption of the Berberine on the cotton fabrics pretreated with the anionic agent was greatly increased comparing to that of untreated fabric. Because the anionic agent was colorless, it did not cause unintended color change of the dyeings. The dyed fabric with the Berberine has strong antimicrobial activity showing 99.5% of reduction of bacteria against Staphylococcu aureus.

  • An alternately assembled polycation-anionic dye film was prepared on a precursor assembly of poly(allylamine)hydrochloride (PAH) and poly(sodium styrenesulfonate) (PSS) or of poly (djallyldimethyl)ammonium chloride (PDDA) and PSS. The (PAH/PSS) precursor assembly gave better adsorptivity to the anionic dye than the (PDDA/PSS) one. Four kinds of anionic dyes (EB-T, AR-17 AR-18, AR-27) with different numbers of sulfonate substituents were compared. The extent of dye assembling was higher for the dye with a smaller number of sufonate substituents. Second harmonic generation (SHG) was clearly observed from the films. The SHG signal and the absorption intensity correlated well up to four polycation/dye bilayers, while further assembly did not increase the SHG signal appreciably. Second order nonlinear coefficients for ten bilayer assemblies were the order of pm/V.

  • Anionic small molecules are hard to penetrate the cell membranes because of their negative charges. Encapsulation of small molecules into liposome particles can provide target specific delivery of them. In our previous study, siRNA could be efficiently encapsulated into liposome particles using an asymmetric preparation method of liposomes. In this study, the same method was applied for encapsulation of small anionic fluorescent chemicals such as calcein and indocyanine green (ICG). More than 90% fluorescent chemicals were encapsulated in the asymmetric liposome particles (ALPs). No intracellular fluorescent signal was observed in the tumor cells treated with the unmodified calcein/ALPs and ICG/ALPs, whereas the surface modification with a cell-penetrating polyarginine peptide (R8 or R12) allows cellular uptake of the ALPs. The results demonstrate that the ALPs encapsulating small anionic drugs will be useful for target-specific delivery after modification of target-specific ligands.

  • The surfactants facilitate the formation of foam bubbles under a proper condition and provide stability of foam bubbles by decreasing the surface tension of solutions and increasing the viscosity of foam surface. However, there have been almost no practical data of foam concrete in this regard so far. This study aims to understand the effects of foaming agents such as anionic synthetic surfactant and anionic natural material surfactant on the low density foamed concrete. From the experiment, the vegetable soap of anionic natural material surfactants showed a higher foaming rate, more open pores, slightly lower compressive strength, and a higher permeability coefficient compared to the vegetable soap of anionic synthetic surfactants. It is believed that the natural material surfactants make not only the surface tension of the solution low but also the viscosity of slurry high.

  • Oligomer type anionic surfactants(RmM-Na or RmD-Na} were synthesized from $C_{8}{\sim}C_{16}$ long chain alkylvinylether and maleic anhydride (or maleic diethylether). And also their fluorescent anionic surfactants (RmF- Na) were obtained from alkali neutralization which opens the lactone ring of the condensing materials produced by maleic anhydride alkylvinylether copolymer and 3-aminophenol. The measurement results for the surface active properties of water soluble oligomer type anionic surfactants with fluorescent structure (RmF-Na) exhibited a remarkable surface tension lowing property, foam breaking property, and a ernulsing power.

  • Cotton fabric was treated with a reactive anionic agent in order to have anionic sites(-S03-) on it, which made it possible for the fabric to adsorb various cationic materials. In this study, the adsorptivity of various heavy metal ions such as Pb(II), Cd(II), Cr(III), Co(II), Cu(II), Ni (II) and Cr(VI) on the cotton fabrics treated with anionic agent was examined at the various conditions; concentrations of heavy metal ions, pHs of solution, reaction time and temperature. As a result, the adsorptivity of the heavy metal ions on the cotton fabrics treated with the anionic agent was highly increased comparing to that of untreated cotton fabrics. The order of the adsorptivity was as follows: $Pb(II)>Cd(II)>Cu(II)\geqNi(II)\geqCo(II)>Cr(III)\ggCr(VI)$. The adsorption amounts of most heavy metal ions were increased in weak alkaline conditions and were reached to an adsorption equilibrium within 10 ~ 30 minutes. The maximum adsorption ratios of Pb(II) and Cd(II) were respectively 99% and 80% of the initial concentration of heavy metal ions. Therefore the anionized cotton fabrics seem to be utilized as an adsorption fabrics for the removal of heavy metal ions in the waste water.
