  • The purpose of this study is to examine the prevalence of depression in Korean American men and factors associated with the Korean American men's depression by examining how depression is affected by socio-demographic characteristics, immigration-related characteristics, and psychological and social characteristics. Socio-demographic characteristics include age, education, occupation, and monthly income. Immigration-related characteristics include years in the U. S., being U. S. citizens, and acculturation level. Psychological and social characteristics include anger, marital satisfaction, and social support. Using an availability sampling method, data were collected from 201 Korean American married men who were between the ages of 20 and 64 and resided in Los Angeles County. This study used a structured self-administered questionnaire. Due to the unreliable responses, five questionnaires were excluded from the study. Therefore 196 completed questionnaires were used for the data analyses. In order to measure the respondents' depression, the CES-D(Center for Epidemiological Studies of Depression) was used in this study. In the hierarchical multiple regression analyses, monthly income, anger, marital satisfaction, and social support were significantly associated with the respondents' depression. However, there were no significant associations between depression and age, education, occupation, being a U. S. citizen, and acculturation. Implications of the findings for mental health practitioners and social works are discussed.

  • Objectives : Physical activity is known as beneficial to mental health like decreasing depression and stress. In this study, we tried to find out the relationship between body composition, stress, depression, and self-esteem with physical activity level. Methods : International Physical Activity Questionnaire(IPAQ)-short form, SRRS(Social readjustment rating scale), SRI(Stress response index), and BDI(Beck's depression index), SES(Self-esteem scale) were given to peri-menopausal women aged 45-55 and BMI$\geq$23kg/m2. They were given written consent and this study is performed under the permission of institutional review board of Kyung Hee East-west Neo Medical Center. Results : The mean of physical activity of total subjects was 2406MET-min/week(n=42). The physical activity of overweight(23kg/m2$\leq$BMI<25kg/m2) and obese(BMI$\geq$25kg/m2) permimenopausal women was 1428MET-min/week and 2970MET-min/week(p<0.05) respectively. When three levels of physical activity pattern(inactive, minimally active, and HEPA(Health-enhancing physical activity) active) was analyzed, all of them were heavily relied on the activity intensities of walking. The scores of BDI, SRRS, and SRI were lower and that of SES were higher in HEPA active group, not showing statical significance. Anger(subscale of SRI) measures were lower and SES measures were higher in HEPA active group than others among overweight women(p<0.05). Conclusions : The level of physical activity of peri-menopausal women was on the average, but the vigorous activity is thought to be necessary. The HEPA active group showed lower depression, stress and higher self-esteem than minimally active and inactive group.

  • The culture is a product of the century, and so a worldwide-recognized cultural legacy is like an incorporeal property owned by a country. It is a new legacy created In new environment conditions among countries. The meaning of this study is to give wider publicity to our intangible cultural properties through active database research. There are a significant number of museums that manage tangible cultural properties at a national level, but we can find that most stay very superficial in the aspects of database protection, classification system, and demonstration method. This is a critical physical factor that makes it difficult to create an information-oriented management system, or to manage intangible cultural properties as incorporeal entities. The preservation of tangible cultural properties may be a more proper approach of handing down valuable national characteristics to posterity In that they can show those characteristics more readily. Unlike tangible cultural properties, the preservation of intangible cultural properties requires a different approach and process. They are treated as a category of human cultural assets because of their incorporeity and formlessness. Since those intangible cultural properties to be preserved and quantified at a national level, it is an important consideration in the study on cultural properties. The objectives of this study are to present the intangible products by making the best use of the information society's merits; rediscover human elements constituting those products; ultimately help promote our cultural succession and development by databasing such human elements.

  • Given the context of rapid developing ubiquitous computing environment, it is imperative for users to search and use images based on affective meanings. However, it has been difficult to index affective meanings of image since emotions of image are substantially subjective and highly abstract. In addition, utilizing low level features of image for indexing affective meanings of image has been limited for high level concepts of image. To facilitate the access points of affective meanings of image, this study aims to utilize user-provided responses of images. For a data set, emotional words are collected and cleaned from twenty participants with a set of fifteen images, three images for each of basic emotions, love, sad, fear, anger, and happy. A total of 399 unique emotion words are revealed and 1,093 times appeared in this data set. Through co-word analysis and network analysis of emotional words from users' responses, this study demonstrates expanded word sets for five basic emotions. The expanded word sets are characterized with adjective expression and action/behavior expression.

When there was a spouse, there was a significant difference according to gender (t=2.587, p=.012) in IADL. Without a spouse, there were significant differences in mood states according to education level (F=3.315, p=.023), in anxiety-depression according to the presence of illness (t=2.156, p=.033), in vigor according to age (F=3.439, p=.020) and education level (F=5.285, p=.002), and in IADL according to monthly income (F=3.322, p=.023) and the presence of illness (t=2.172, p=.032). • This study is a life history on self-realization of woman in the abstinence of alcohol process. The purpose of the study is to explore the circumstance of female alcoholism, to expand the prospect of discussion for treatment and recovery, and to suggest social welfare intervention measures. The study involved a female alcoholic who had been recovering for more than seven years, and the text for life history analysis was divided into 'dimension of life', 'turning point' and 'adaptation' based on the life history analysis framework proposed by Mandelbaum. As a result of the data analysis, 'dimension of life' was analyzed into three areas, such as the personal level of life, the family level of life, and the social dimension. 'Turning point' is to escape from a father who drinks alcohol and uses violence, to give up his job to avoid boss's abuse, and to proceed one's own way of healing. 'Adaptation' was derived into good at studying, relieving anger by drinking alcohol, and referring to AA and self-realization. Based on these findings, this study presented the social welfare practice and policy discussion focused on self-realization.

  • Modern industrial society demands socially-prescribed perfectionism from office workers and causes self-discrepancy. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to propose a counseling strategy that integrates the divided self based on Fairbairn's psychological structure and reduces self-discrepancy by changing interpersonal relation patterns. 14 sessions were conducted once a week from March 2022 to July 2022. T-test was used as a research method to compare the level of self discrepancy by conducting the Self Questionnaire before and after. During the initial stage, the client was in conflict with his boss and showed anger, depression, somatic symptoms such as gastrointestinal disorder, strict judgement on himself and others, and high self-discrepancy. This research showed that the client's libidinal ego and anti-libidinal ego were de-repressed and integrated into his central ego, and his self-discrepancy level was decreased, which was confirmed through the pre-post test. This research, as a case study applying Fairbairn's psychological structure, has a meaning that it confirmed a change in the interpersonal relation patterns of a socially-prescribed perfectionistic client.

Third, there has been no change in positive and negative feelings before and after deokhu activities in the non-deokhu group. For the deokhu group, the positive emotions of happiness, joy, tranquility, pleasure increased and negative emotions such as anger, anxiety, sadness, shame, and guilt were significantly reduced after deokhu activities. The perception of deokhu and deokhu activities have positive functions that increase the level of flow, relieve negative feelings and enhance positive emotions.
