Simultaneous Localization and Mapping For Swarm Robot (군집 로봇의 동시적 위치 추정 및 지도 작성)

  • This paper deals with the simultaneous localization and mapping system using cooperative robot. For recognizing environment, swarm robot uses the ultrasonic sensors and vision sensor. Ultrasonic sensors measure the distance information, and vision sensor recognizes the predefined landmark. we used SURF with excellent quality and fast matching in order to recognize landmark. Due to measurement error of sensors, we fusion them using particle filter for accurate localization and mapping. Finally, we show the feasibility of the proposed method through some experiments.

  • In measurement of ship speed with a Doppler log sensor, we encounter the nonhorizontal movement of a ship, i.e. pitching and rolling, and that causes inaccuracy of the measurement. In this study, we develop a Janus type ultrasonic transducer that can resolve the problems in accuracy due to the pitching and other environmental factors of common ultrasonic sensors attributed to the underwater usage. For the development, we analyze the operation mechanism of the transducer, fabricate a prototype of the sensor, and evaluate its performance through experiments.

  • In this paper, the wall follwing method of a motorized wheelchair is discussed. The wall fellowing problem is characterized by maintaining a constant distance to the wall, which should be possible using a distance measuring sensor only. Ultrasonic sensors are cheap are fairly simple to use in this case. The main problem is the calculation of the distance and orientation of the wheelchair with respect the wall from the sensor data. This is solved by the method that sensor data is obtained from 3 ultrasonic sensors arranged at a same perpendicular pivot. The results show that a new method is very effiecient for a motorized wheelchair.

  • In this paper, the vibration & ultrasonic singals, \ulcorner 새 the collisions of particles in coaxial exectrodes are analyzed and discribed. These singals were detected and measured using ultrasonic and vibration sensors attached on the GIS enclosure. The relationship between the magnitude of the measured signal and the diameter and leght of the particle was analyzed.

  • This paper presents an efficient location estimation methodology for a partial discharge(PD) source in the power transformer. The methodology previously proposed is not suitable for locating a PD source because the ultrasonic signal with medium attenuated through the inner structure. In general, the propagation characteristic of ultrasonic signal with medium is different. Therefore, using this propagation characteristic, we can detect the location of PD source. In this paper, the proposal algorithm finds the PD source using three sensors attached to one side of the transformer without attenuation of the ultrasonic signal and applying the neural network based geometrical method. The proposed methodology demonstrates the effectiveness and validity on an experimental transformer.

  • In a park or street, we can see many people Jogging or walking with their dogs chasing their masters. In the previous study, an entertainment robot, CARTRI that imitates the dog's behavior was created. The robot's task was chasing a moving goal that was recognized as the master. The physical structure of the CARTRI robot was three-wheel type locomotion system. The sensor system which could detect the position of the master in the outdoor space, was consists of a signal transmitter which was held by the master and five ultrasonic receivers which were mounted on the robot. In the experiment, the robot could chase a human walking in outdoor space like a park. But it could not avoid obstacles and its behavior was only goal-chasing behavior because of the limit of the sensor system. In this study, an improved RF-ultrasonic sensor system which can detect both goal and obstacle is developed in order to enable the CARTRI robot to carry out various behavior. The sensor system has increased angle resolution by using eight ultrasonic receivers instead of five in the previous study. And it can detect obstacle by using reflective type ultrasonic sensors. The sensor system is designed so that detection of goal and obstacle could be conducted in one sampling period. The Performance of the developed sensor system is evaluated through experiments.

  • In this paper range measurement systems using ultrasonic and visual sensors are designed. By varying the focus of a camera, the range to a target pattern is computed. Pour different methods are tested for the focusing-based range measurement. The best result is obtained when counting edge pixels found by Laplacian operator. Higher accuracy can be obtained by fusing the measurement of camera focusing with that of ultrasonic sensor. The system designed is experimented within the range of 300-450mm.

  • This paper describes a method of producing maps of an indoor environment with an autonomous mobile robot equipped with sonar array. This method uses the certainty grid suitable for accommodation of inaccurate sensor data and real-time navigation. Each grid contains a certainty vale that indicates the measure of confidence that an obstacle exists within th grid area. The scheduled firing method is used to eliminate the crosstalk between ultrasonic sensors. The effectiveness of the method is verified by a series of experiments.

  • This paper presents a simple sensor fusion algorithm using neural network for navigation of mobile robots with obstacle avoidance and trap recovery. The multiple sensors input sensor data to the input layer of neural network activating the input nodes. The multiple sensors used include optical encoders, ultrasonic sensors, infrared sensors, a magnetic compass sensor, and GPS sensors. The proposed sensor fusion algorithm is combined with the VFH(Vector Field Histogram) algorithm for obstacle avoidance and AGPM(Adaptive Goal Perturbation Method) which sets adaptive virtual goals to escape trap situations. The experiment results show that the proposed low-level fusion algorithm is effective for real-time navigation of mobile robot.

  • In this paper, we present an infrared sensors aided map building method for mobile robot using genetic algorithm and fuzzy logic. Existing Bayesian update model using ultrasonic sensors only has a problem of the quality of map being degraded in the wall with irregularity which is caused by the wide beam width of sonar waves and Gaussian probability distribution. In order to solve this problem we propose an improved method of map building using supplementary infrared sensors. In the method, wide beam width of sonar waves is divided by infrared sensors and probability is distributed according to infrared sensors' information using fuzzy logic and genetic algorithm.
