  • Objectives : Disturbance of sleep with or without sleep apnea may impair the memory function. Sleep deficiency, sleepiness, sleep apnea and emotional problem in sleep disorders can induce an impairment of memory function. Methods : In this study, the polysomnographies were administered to 58 sleep apnea patients and 38 sleep disorder patients without sleep apnea. Their clinical symptoms were quantitatively evaluated. Short term and long term memory were evaluated before and after polysom no graphy with Digit symbol test and Rey-Osterrieth complex figure test. And correlations among various sleep, repiratory and clinical variables were statistically studied in order to explore which variables may influence on memory function. Results and Conclusions : Results are as follows. Depth of sleep cis positively correlated with memory function. As sleep apnea increases and average saturation of blood oxygen decreases, memory function is more impaired. Emotional depression, high blood pressure, obesity or alcohol impaired memory function. However, daytime sleepiness was not significantly correlated with memory function. The possible mechanisms how above factors influence on the memory function were discussed.

  • Recently several authors have extended the Gamma function, Beta function, the hypergeometric function, and the confluent hypergeometric function by using their integral representations and provided many interesting properties of their extended functions. Here we aim at giving further extensions of the abovementioned extended functions and investigating various formulas for the further extended functions in a systematic manner. Moreover, our extension of the Beta function is shown to be applied to Statistics and also our extensions find some connections with other special functions and polynomials such as Laguerre polynomials, Macdonald and Whittaker functions.

  • Since the time of Euler, the dilogarithm and polylogarithm functions have been studied by many mathematicians who used various notations for the dilogarithm function $Li_2(z)$. These functions are related to many other mathematical functions and have a variety of application. The main objective of this paper is to present corrected versions of two equivalent factorization formulas involving the Legendre's Chi-function $\chi_2$ and an evaluation of a class of integrals which is useful to evaluate some integrals associated with the dilogarithm function.

  • The mobile phone is the most private device for mobile communication. The goal of this paper is to present function relation model of the individualization and to analyze the task in the model by function pattern and function relation model in mobile phone. Function, activity, activity flow, intent of the activity, function group and influence between function and function group are used to present the function relation model which illustrates the relationship of the function in product. And this model drew up the function relation model for mobile phone. The function relation model for mobile phone based on the function pattern by the newest 3 phone's over 320 functions and 21 function groups. Last, to rearrange the function relation model to center on the individualization, the internal/ external memory to save and use the information for individualization function is placed to middle of the model. The main tasks of the model are storing, inquiry and interlock. The important methods to reinforce the individualization function are to develop the tasks which are the relations between the functions.

  • In 1859, Bernhard Riemann, in his epoch-making memoir, extended the Euler zeta function $\zeta$(s) (s > 1; $s{\in}\mathbb{R}$) to the Riemann zeta function $\zeta$(s) ($\Re$(s) > 1; $s{\in}\mathbb{C}$) to investigate the pattern of the primes. Sine the time of Euler and then Riemann, the Riemann zeta function $\zeta$(s) has involved and appeared in a variety of mathematical research subjects as well as the function itself has been being broadly and deeply researched. Among those things, we choose to make a further investigation of the following subjects: Evaluation of $\zeta$(2k) ($k {\in}\mathbb{N}$); Approximate functional equations for $\zeta$(s); Series involving the Riemann zeta function.

  • In this paper we have proposed a new loss function, namely, non-linear exponential(NLINEX) loss function, which is quite asymmetric in nature. We obtained the Bayes estimator under exponential(LINEX) and squared error(SE) loss functions. Moreover, a numerical comparison among the Bayes estimators of power function distribution under SE, LINEX, and NLINEX loss function have been made.

  • This paper deals with the evaluation of two definite integrals involving spheroidal wave function, H-function of two variables, and the generalized hypergeometric function. Also, an expansion formula for the product of generalized hypergeometric function and the H-function of two variables has been obtained. Since the H-function of two variables, spheroidal wave functions, and the generalized hypergeometric function may be transformed into a number of higher transcendental functions and polynomials, the results obtained in this paper include some known results as their particular cases. As an application of such results, a problem of heat conduction in a non-homogenous bar has been solved by using the generalized Legendre transform [9].

  • In this paper, an interesting integral involving the Ī-function of one variable introduced by Rathie has been derived. Since Ī-function is a very generalized function of one variable and includes as special cases many of the known functions appearing in the literature, a number of integrals can be obtained by reducing the Ī function of one variable to simpler special functions by suitably specializing the parameters. A few special cases of our main results are also discussed.

  • The purposes of this study were to describe the level of vision and hearing impairments, depression and functional capacity, among Korean institutionalized elderly and to examine the relation-ship between sensory impairments, depression, and functional capacity in these people. The final pupose was to test the cognitive function path model using sensory competencies as predictors. A convenience sample of thirty nine male and 90 female subjects with a mean age of 80.5 were the subjects of this study. The subjects were tested for cognitive function, and vision and hearing impairments. Physical function and social function were measured by observation of designated task performance by the subjects. Their level of de-pression was measured using a Geriatric Depression Scale administered through an interview. Individual subjective ratings of hearing and vision were marked by the subjects, on a ladder scale. The results of the study showed that 48.8% of the subjects had a hearing impairment, 63.5% had a vision impairement, and 36.4% had both a vision and hearing impairement. The four sensory groups (no sensory impairement, hearing impairement, vision impairement, hearing and vision impairement) were tested for differences in depression, physical function, social behavior and cognitive function. The only significant difference that was found was in cognitive function, between the no sensory impairement group and the hearing and vision impairement group(F=3.25, P<.05), Subjective ratings of hearing showed a significant correlation with cognitive function(r=.34, p<.001) and with social behavior(r=.31, p<.001). There was no correlation between subjective vision ratings and cognitive function or social behavior. However there was a significant correlation between vision and hearing(r=.49, p<.001). There was also a significant negative correlation between age and vision(r=-.21, p<.01) and between age and hear-ing(r=-.34, p<.001). There was a significant correlation between depression and physical function (r=-.32, p<.001) but there was no correlation between depression and cognitive function or social behavior. Based on the literature review and the result, this study, a path model of sensory competence-> cognitive function- >social behavior was developed and tested : Perceived vision and perceived hearing were the exogenous variahles and cognitive function and social behavior were the endogeneous variables in the model. The path analysis result demonstrated an accept-able fit (GFI=.997, AGFI=.972, X$^2$=.72 (p=.396), RMSR=.019) between the data and the model. There was a significant direct effect($\beta$=.38) of perceived hearing on cognitive function. There was a significant direct effect ($\beta$=.32) of cognitive function on social behavior. The total effect of hearing on social behavior was $\beta$=.32 including the indirect effect ($\beta$=.12) . However perceived vsion had little effect ($\beta$=-.08) on cognitive function. The result of path analysis confirms that hearing levels influence cognitive function, and both hearing and cognitive function levels influence social behavior. However, vision has little effect on cognitive function or on social behavior. For the next study, a combined model of the pre viously developed environment - >depression- > physical and social function model, and the present cognitive function model, should be tested to further refine the functional capacity model. There also a need for longitudinal study of functional capacity and sencory competence in order to better understand how declining sensory competence influences functional capacity and how it effects in-creasing dependency and nursing needs in the elderly.
