  • A sensor fault detection method for small turbo shaft engine considering multiple trim conditions is proposed. This engine is used in a helicopter. Firstly, under multiple trim conditions, we derive the linearized models from a nonlinear model which includes engine, rotor and feedback control loop. As a fault detection method, we adopt the Kalman filter based method. To keep continuity of estimates between the changes of trim conditions, we reconfigure the initial values of state variables at trim changes. We detect the faults with two steps that when the first filter does not alarm the faults for some sensors, the second filter is runned for other sensor. Via some simulations we show that the proposed method works well under multiple trim conditions.

  • Mode analysis is very important for the development of liquid rocket engine in various applications. We developed a mode analysis program for the gas-generator cycle liquid rocket engine by proposing 13 independent equations with 13 independent variables which can be solved by Newton method. As an example we calculated the change of engine operating mode according to the control valve's loss coefficient change located in the gas-generator oxidizer supply line. And we concluded that this program can give basic idea for the mode analysis of gas-generator cycle liquid rocket engine.

  • The effect of tip clearance on the performance of a supersonic impulse turbine was investigated experimentally. Test was performed using high pressure air in wide ranges of pressure ratio and rotational speeds. Test revealed that efficiency gradient of the subject turbine at a reference test point was a very low value of 0.05. Turbine efficiency was varied non-linearly with respect to tip clearance. It has been found that efficiency gradient is proportional to the cube of rotational speed at a fixed turbine pressure ratio. It also has been found that efficiency gradient shows its minimum at a reference test pressure ratio irrespective of rotational speeds.

  • This study experimentally examines combustion characteristics of a hybrid rocket in which solid paraffin is used as a fuel, while oxidizer is pure oxygen. Especially, the experiment investigates the effects of chamber pressure and configuration of fuel grain. The pressure inside the combustion chamber is varied by changing a flow rate of oxidizer. The regression rate is observed to increase as the chamber pressure does. There also exists the effects of shape of fuel grain on thrust. Characteristic of paraffin hybrid rocket changes with shape of fuel grain. When there is a room near the injector, thrust increases. On the other hand, the room near the nozzle does not contribute to thrust increasement.

  • A propulsion controller for vehicles should be designed to overcome a sensor failure during a flight, and it is necessary to control the system properly at any circumstances. Therefore, the vehicles need to retain reliability on the sensor measurements by implementing extra sensors to replace the original control sensors in case of their failure. This paper presents the MIMO NARX model by simulation which substitutes measured values with estimated ones by the state estimation technique in case of a sensor failure in a turbojet engine. It is also presented that the NARX model can be adapted as an engine model in HILS equipments.

  • The combustion characteristics of fuel-rich gas generator which could be adopted to Ducted Rocket propulsion system is investigated. The gas generator is designed considering the design requirements of propulsion system then solid fuel, which is developed by reducing the contents of oxidizer and increasing the contents of metallic solid particle, is loaded in the manufactured gas generator. The results of combustion test shows the necessity of the special analysis tool for estimating the gas generator performance where multi-phase flow of fuel-rich gas exists.

  • Subscale high-pressure injection system which use two-stage light gas gun composed with high-pressure tube, pump tube and launch tube can make supersonic liquid jet. The supersonic liquid jet enhances droplet atomization by shockwave in front of the jet. In this study, the experiments was executed to identify the atomization characteristics of the supersonic liquid jet using straight cone nozzle. SMD which presents the atomization characteristics was decreased from $151.2{\mu}m$ to $52.25{\mu}m$ by increasing of L/d.

  • In the present work, a synchronization test system for variable nozzle is described. Variable nozzles are used to enhance the effectiveness of aircraft engines at various altitudes. The synchronization test system was developed to verify the dynamic characteristics and synchronization of variable nozzle mechanism including flaps. The system with a variable nozzle was analyzed, before its fabrication, by a multi-body dynamics analysis software RecurDyn. The newly developed test system is being used to show the synchronization capability of a variable nozzle system.

  • The Finite element modelling is carried to predict the equivalent shear modulus of the Egg-Box core. Homogeneous material H130-foam core is employed to verify the prediction method of equivalent shear modulus. It shows a good agreement between the results of FE calculation and the values available in the reference. As a result of the present work, the equivalent shear modulus of Egg-Box core at various temperatures can be obtained.
